PH is divided in 3, just like the states in USA. luzon,visayas,mindanao. both luzon and visayas has predominant christians while mindanao has muslim majorities since its in the south and close to indoneis/malaysia- which is both heavily populated by muslims. this terrorists kidnaps for ransom so that they would have the enough budget to secede from PH so they usually kidnap foreigners cuz of their money

@13elsyd13 Thanks for the break down. I still doubt that these people are alqaeda linked. My guess is that they are separatists guerrillas of some sort trying to break away from the always repressive central Phillipine government. The alqaeda link is a smear tactic.

@UNIVERSITYHI i doubt it too but im pretty sure they're islamists terrorists. some of them get funded by indonesian/malaysian islamists. they are called Moro islamic Liberation Front, abbu sayyaf, those 2 are the most dangerous ones. soo if ever your a foreigner and traveling to PH, dont come to mindanao cuz its there those islamists are dwelling. this muslim-filipinos or "moros" as they wanted to be called wants Mindanao to be a independent state with its own govt and shia laws

@GreatScottPro FYI Mindanao is called the "Promise Land" of the Philippines..It has beautiful places and tourist attraction... it is also the Phil. food basket...and Mindanao is so rich with Minerals especially with Gold and Nickel..

The only problem in Mindanao are the Muslim separatist that until now wants to control the region...
