  • i dont this would actually work .. the throwing him up in the air part .. but who said im not gona try it

  • nice

  • maybe you could even go to a helicopter arm bar. would be a bit more faster,

  • @Cadeell Yea I was going to say that this looked like a helicopter, if he just avoided putting him down at all.

  • I was actually trying to get that today on somebody too, but I was having trouble making the transition from x gaurd all the way to the arm. They were laying awful heavy that direction. The knee bar is there with less movement. when you get him floating like that

  • very very very nice, just recently found out about x guard and been doing some mad practicing, im gonna start using it a lot

  • this seems like u can defend it well cuz ur free hand is just there

  • Thanks for the innovative (no gi !) technique.

  • looks nice in practice, but against someone with a good base it won't work

  • "Looka nice in practice, but against someone with a good base it won't work"

lol why do guys say that all the time...thats like someone showing a triangle and you saying..."Ha ...that looks good in practice..but against someone with good posture that wont work" Every move can be blocked and every move is used WHEN the guy makes a mistake and doesn't have good base, posture, grip etc. Of course it wont work everytime...but one time it will.

  • true but there are high percentage and low percentage moves.

this would be a low percentage move.

too loose. an armbar from the bottom with only one clipped leg (as shown in the vid) is just poor technique. doesn't work as good as when you are on top, it's not a good habit and will be costly in the long run.

if it wer the spider ambar variation with the legs it would have a higher success rate.

  • Fine..but he wasn't showing a "spider ambar" he was showing this. It has its scenarios where it works...no point in saying it has flaws..almost every submission does..thats how defenses exist.

  • "no point in saying it has flaws..almost every submission does..thats how defenses exist."

flaws exist in execution not technique.

the simplest technique executed perfectly can not be countered.

living proof would be Roger Gracie.

  • The flaw is that they must be executed...and since they must be executed their will be flaws. There is a weak point in every execution and if you opponent is able to capitalize on these weak moments with stronger defense or counter movements...he will win.

Roger is actually an example for me as well...He gets into those positions with this philosophy....he wins because he understands this better than his opponents. In fact, he is one of the ones I learned this philosophy from.

  • "The flaw is that they must be executed"??

seriously man, you might wanna bring it down a notch. i mean it does make sense but if you really think about it. its a little too much.

all im trying to say is that in this situation it's the technique it self that has flaws, in the setup and in the the finish. which will make it easy to defend and harder to do in live application (don't get me wrong it will probably work)

whether you agree with me or not is entirely up to you. peace out.

  • lol your the one that initiated this little journey, and I can follow you as far down the rabbit hole as you want to go.

The point is, if it "Probably will work" then whats the point on thrashing it. There are high percentage moves and low percentage moves...its good to have both. Whats the point in trashing it? That's all I'm saying.

  • wasn't talking about this "rabit hole" journey. was talking about the seamlessly continuously redundant "catch phrases" starting to go to a spiral twirl into a vividly grassy trail leading back in the starting line.

and yes the paragraph on top is too make a point for utter redundancy becoming into non-sense

but anyway wasn't trashing it. i just pointed out some points to improve on. it's just way too easy too push that one knee out.,right? do you see yourself tapping out from this?

  • ME?I never tap!

I could sit in your arm bar and feel fine, Carbon Steel Spine, passing through your guard like its a yield sign :)

Just kiddin..yes, I understand what you are saying...it is definitely and opportunistic move.

  • LOL nice rhyme

  • thats a nice technique bro. thanks for sharing.

  • it's only a matter of time before you start seeing more of a catch wrestling influence on mma, i'm surpised there is'nt so far due to Josh barnett being 1 of the top 10 in the world and being trained by Karl Gotch (amazing catch wrestler).

  • i completely agree, this is an excellent move and will definately play a big part in teh future of ground work in MMA. But, At the same time i have to say catch wrestling is one of the most underrated ground arts out there, but yet one of the most dominant. It's only a matter of time before you start seeing a catch wrestling influence in mma, because of the controll that is used before a submission is applied versus surprising your opponent.

  • i just started working x guard and i have been sweeping the hell out of anyone,i really never see anyone using this guard i love it.

  • I get some sweeps here and there and burned on it too, but I'm get burned 100 times before it's just right. But gettined burned has made me work half guard a lot more! Love X!

  • nice submission!

  • This is great for people with long limbs. Thanks for posting, gonna try it next training.

  • I think x-guard is gonna the next trend in grappling and in mma. You may not see many people doing now, but eventually you'll see more people doing it in the future.

  • very nice move, when the opponent is in 4 points and you take his arm, I can see a lot of space there tfor him to escape, but I'll try it; even if he escapes his arm, yhe would alreaady lose balance

  • you must put and press your head on the chest !

  • YOUR move works good,DON'T LESSEN to NEGATIVE

    COMMENTS ,THESE people never matter.

  • its complex, but with practice it looks efective.

  • It looks great. I'm going to have to try that and I'll post up how it works for me.

  • most submissions seem improbable, interesting stuff.

  • nice

  • very nice

  • You'd NEVER hit that on me, I swear. You don't have enough grip on my left arm to keep me in that move. It's really cool, though, and has tons of potential for other variations. ciao

  • I think this move will SUBMIT you EVERYTIME bro. Your left arm is weak. You are cool though.

  • respect for your technique

  • ahahah skyhigh ahahah skyhigh love dat song

  • Nice one,bro/Thanx

  • That's cool!!

  • This is a very good and advance technique. I haven't caught anyone yet with it, but I have tap quite a few with your x-guard leg lock. Thank-you for sharing.
