Pois não? - You will hear it when you are at some store and you are like looking at something, and the person who works there will come to you and ask you : Pois não?

So the person is asking you if she/he can help you with something ^-^

Já foi atendido? - Actually it's asking : "Are you all set?", but it also means Can I help you...

Hope you got it :S ... It's hard to explain ^-^

the man obviously mocks us: swallows SO MANY syllables it's impossible to trace what's pronounced to what's written. very discouraging: seems right away that the pronunciation is simply unlearnable!

(also: how the hell "gracias" in spanish transformed into "obrigado" in portugese?!)

it's not the man who is pronouncing "his" way, that's how brazilian portuguese is pronounced (despite regional differences).
