I loved the performance on these Old Grey Whistle Test shows. The artists performed LIVE, with ZERO overdubs or editing. They were free to perform their music as intended, they could ad lib, play for 20 minutes, everything. They owned the show. There are no avenues for true artists to exhibit their talent like this on a large audience scale today.

Billy joel truly is "the entertainer" - He doesn't just sing brilliant songs, but he gives everyone a good time... I agree with horsewhispered, I wish I could have seen him in a concert, but I doubt I'll ever get the chance.

But just like any other singer, "You'll forget my name, and I won't be here in another year if I don't stay on the charts" - No matter how good he is, it's being popular that makes people remember him (they cut it down to 3-05 - another example, but I'm out of characters.)
