I just watched the american version and O...M...G... What the hell is up with their stupid accents and that everything you read in the movie, the news etc is in swedish? It's so retarded. Everyone is talking english but everything around is swedish? It's so stupid I didn't know if I was gonna laugh or cry. And i'm so sick of the americans always wanting to americanize EVERYTHING. The swedish movie is better than this one, by far.
David Fincher's take on the story will be closer to the novel than the Swedish versions ever were, and Rooney Mara is looking SICK <3
Noomi Rapace is, by no means, a Goddess (to all of the butt-hurt fans of the Swedish adaptation). Her performance was pretty good, but not what the character should have been.
@Cornflak are you gonna talk to me like that shithead? you obviously cant see the beauty of noomi rapace you pathetic shitty twat your mom outta have to clean your fucking mouth and teach you some fucking manners before you go ahead and call us the real fans who actually read the books the year they were published instead of some ignorant bastard who was to fucking high to read them so go ahead waste your money on those tickets but you will never know what being a true fan means...
@lamingtongirl123 I don't believe I cursed or was nearly as rude as you just were. Besides, I've read the books and I've seen the Swedish films. They simply didn't go together. I trust Fincher a lot more than other directors, and he'll do the series justice.
For those who would like to see the original movies not the "Americanized" versions I watched all 3 on Netflix. No way they can get away with some of that stuff. Watch them add explosions and gore though.
The girl playing Lisbeth Salander in the new movie literally looks like a crack whore, and is therefore unattractive, whereas Naomi Rapace is actually quite beautiful, to say the least. This is one of the reasons that I am not hopeful for the American remake, one of many.
well who cares if they make it they only throw money away cos the only movie bout lisbeth salander is the swedish one and tht is not strange IT ALL HAPPEND THERE THEY SPEAK SWEDISH so if u rlly love the books and want to see the movie just watch the original movie and not a crappy remake what probably will be overdone like they always do in hollywood
Noomi Rapace was offered the role in the remake but said no. She had already done the film was her reason. You can see her in sherlock holmes 2 with robert downey jr soon and she is asked by ridley scott to be in his new alien movie, so the movie really seemes to be what she needed for an international career. she is going to work a lot in america i suspect the coming years.
i am proud to be from sweden when i see Noomi doing so well.
I hate those english conversions. In Finland we use to watch movies with subtitles, no matter if its english or swedish movie or something else. If you want to get a right feeling of this great story, u have to watch the original swedish version.
Funny back in 2008, many people were outraged at the castings of Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvuist... saying that the actors are nothing like the characters and Noomi was too tall for Lisbeth (like the directors are gonna find a talented elf to play) Later, when it was released in 2009, they become beloved internationally (esp. Noomi). And now the people are reacting the same way towards the American version. Just wait until December. We'll see. I pray that Fincher will not disappoint us.

An American version doesn't "ruin" anything. Its being made because the books are such a big hit in America that Columbia PIctures knows it can make a fortune off a well-made English version. Lots of Americans saw the Sweedish movie (I loved it), but a movie without subtitles will attract even more people. If you don't like it, blame the Sweedes who sold the rights! Personally, I think Stieg Larsson deserves it.
I'm willing to give the American version a chance. Mostly cause I'm so into these books so much right now I can't get enough. I thought the Swedish one did great with the character development, but the suspense and mystery felt a little disappointing. American film might get that part right, but probably can't match the dynamic between Rapace and Nyqvist. Or maybe it'll just suck. Hopefully not since Daniel craig is in it.
This is a great story and film. Another unique take on the mystery crime thriller, and its climax is set in Sweden too, is a new story called With Cold Hearts by David Hurst. Main character is pretty alternative as well.
they're remaking this movie? why? hollywood is making no damn sense anymore! im american and i LOVE foreign films but i must admit, its very depressing watching these great movies alone. none of my friends or family members will even give a film with subtitles a chance. its unfortunate :(
The Movie was good but the Book was excellent they left alot of great moments out of the movie from the book. Still, all that being said both were excellent and now I know what A kroner is and a Sek and I have learned more about another culture. What more can you ask for in a great book?
Loved the original Swedish version, subtitles and all. That doesn't prevent me from watching the US version. How can any one make a valuable review of either movies without, actually, having seen both versions???
While I agree that Noomi Rapace is awesome as Lisbeth, I wasn't overly that taken with the movies. Visually, they feel like watching a Canadian television show (no offense to my Canadian friends) and I'm not that crazy about how the books were edited down to a movie script length, too much was lost. I'll give the US remakes a shot just to see if they can do a better job adhering the the wonderful books that Larsson wrote, but I'm not expecting much.
I happen to prefer Canadian TV, movies etc. Not to undermine many of excellent US movies! I think it has a lot to do with ones culture, and of course; TASTE... which is a difficult subject to discuss.
I don't see why everyone is freaking out over the U.S. re-making it. Jesus, I think it's pretty amazing that it's popular enough to be made in 2 countries. I don't see what's so wrong with having 2 adaptations, and I don't think Stieg Larsson would have thought it was "insulting" for his characters to be portrayed in more ways than 1.
Grow up and calm the hell down, or maybe don't go see the other version? Jesus. Give it a chance.
Most likely Mara won't stay on for the Hornets Nest movie. Fincher will leave after the first one. They needed Mara for the rentals with the editing down for the teens. Not even the best choice and Mara won't stay on for all 3.
@Azulabel That is an ignorant thing to say since the remake is not finished filming so you cant compare the two.Being directed by David Fincher is reason enough to see the remake.Aside from the hair the actress looks nothing like as described in the books. "dont see the english version"-that makes you sound like a bigot. I'll watch both versions and then decide for myself which is the better film regardless of what country produced which film. I imagine the both are going to have great qualitys.
Excellent. Can't wait to get my hands on the books.
Not looking forward to the American version. We are too prudish and try to hide the reality and harshness of the things that happen all the time in life.
Don't generalize Americans, I don't mind subtitles at all.
I think Daniel Craig would be a good Blomkvist, the actor already reminds me of him, but have no idea about Lisbeth. Can't think of any American actress that can be that harsh. Keira Knightley played Domino (2005) really well.
@richardboy2007 Well it's confirmed, they are remaking it, with Rooney Mara playing Lisbeth Salander - bloody insulting if you ask me, Sweden did a PERFECT job of it. They can't even do their own authors justice, The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons were rubbish compared to the books. I definitely have no intention of watching Hollywood's homogenized version - it'll be the Swedish versions for me with English over-dubbing.
@FishnGrease Wow, you're going to blame a whole country just because they're doing a different adaptation of a movie? No Americans are dissing the Swedish version -- I'm sure it was great -- so I don't see why you have to rag on an American movie that hasn't even been MADE yet.
@jacedward ...O.K jace , please just see the swedish version - it is truly awesome. I have seen all three - Girl Dragon/ Played With Matches/Kicked Hornets Nest - and honestly I really wish they would let these actors do it. I know what you mean tho.But for people who have seen it, its kinda like remaking the Sound of Music or Gone With the Wind - you simply can't imagine it redone. We shall see, I could be surprised.
I recently saw "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" what a great work of film. Can't wait for the next installment and the inevitable ending with "Hornets Nest" I truely hope that things work out so that there are more of this series.....Stieg we hardly knew ya!
@Degendernation Yes, we can read. Quit confusing ALL of the United States with Hollywood please. I don't like dubbed foreign films. If given the opportunity to either read a subbed version, or listen to a dubbed version, 100% of the time, I'll watch the subbed version first. Because if people haven't realized, English dubbing is terrible 80% of the time.
It's still sad to see that all of us are being stereotyped as ignorant.
I'm reading the comments below, it seems as if you all believe all Americans are money grubbing douche bags, with no knowledge of nearly anything. As if all Americans agree with the views of Corporate America, and as if we're all rich and have everything handed to us at birth.
It's nice to know that if I ever decide to leave this country on vacation... if I ever even have the money... that I'll be hated by 90% of the world. Lol, epic. Are we stereotyped as Nazi's or something? 0_o
@Degendernation I agree with you 100%. I have seen the subtitled movie and read the book, both of with I love. I have my doubts about the US version even though i live in the U.S
@Degendernation So True Why make everything look American and sound American....these swedish actors are all Superb, Lisbeth is gorgeous.....nobody looks fake or had facelifts as quite often happens in American movies...
This is a film for the whole World to watch, but definitely best in its original form!
@Degendernation I agree with you totally. I live in the U.S and LOVE the book and Swedish Movie. I got so pissed when I learned there was going to be an American Remake.
@Degendernation to answer your question, no, idiots in America cannot read. it's too confusing to look at the bottom of the screen while watching a movie. Secondly, Americans do not know any other country exists other than America. If you force us to watch a movie in Swedish, we might ask "What is this thing you call Sweden?" and then the jig would be up. I'm sorry world.
@ZacAndLeoLover ok, then i wont say any more... dont want to spoil it for u. her brothers role is good for the story. i have no problem with that. its just that the casting for that role is not good. the actor sucks in my opinion.
but pls enjoy. the whole trilogy is some of the best crime cinema that has come out of Sweeden.
If I watch for free at these websites, will they charge you? There are do many quizzes or so called funny questions and then asks for ur cellphone number so they can send u the pin code? Are these duthentic or scams? Can I safely put my cellphone number and will they charge me for this? Can I skip this? Anyone please advise? Thanks
@eyemanpb most likely they will charge you, just megavideo it, but just go out buy the book read it, and I think they are playing it still in some arthouses, or just go rent it...if its out already
At 0.31 he says sth very true: the Sally character is like a comic figure
this comic dimension applies to plenty of other stuff in this book/film eg the giant blond who feels no pain, Asian Miriam Wu etc
Its a lovable story, no doubt about that, but this hysterical popularity abroad is really unfounded & very strange to me
U can´t help wondering what other books pple know or read? I can´t imagine that there r only teens who reed it there must be experienced readers as well
I commute every day to my school and to waste my time propperly I read books. Today on my way home, I just finished the last book of the Milennium series, "Luftslottet som sprengtes" (in norwegian) and a man about 35-40 years old turns to me, points at my book and says, "that book is fantastic. I read through it in a couple of days. Couln't put it down". And other than that, I also know about several other people about my parents age, who are thrilled about the books. So yes, big targetgroup :)
it´s just laughable to see all this cheap admiration from pple who don´t seem to have much reading experience otherwise they wouldn´t be so thrilled by this mediocre text
I seriously doubt they read the books at all
the foolish mass behaviour is that u join the cheering bcuz everybody else is cheering
Read some quality books to gain more reference & it´ll dawn on u what´s the issue here
Well obviously you do, since you keep talking about it.
It's a great series, and there's a reason to why so many people like it. I'm sorry to tell you this, but your opinions aren't the definition of what's good writing and what's not. I've read books all my life, from the ones on top ten lists to undiscovered treasures, so I'm sure I have well enough reference when it comes to quality books, unlike you who can't even use proper punctuation.
i might be lucky cos i first saw the movie, saw how great rapace is.. and then went on to read the book. If she was to look 10 years younger, i would think its unrealistic that such a young girl would be capable of such agression and subtle evilness. I don't know if some other actress could play her like that. I have no problem with her at all :)
There is a very minor scene in the book in which Lisbeth Salander sleeps with another woman. But that scene is not germane to the story. It's just a mechanism to illustrate how independent she is. ... I cannot wait to see this film. I just finished the novel and it's great. I've never been interested in Swedish culture or literature until now.
AndreasE you are missing my point, I'm not happy with supermodels that cannot act but some detailed descriptions in the books all point that Salander could be mistakenly taken as a teenager. The director couldn't bother? There are not enough actresses in Scandinavia that could be casted? That's a different issue. Noomi Rapace is NOT Lisbeth, sorry...
now that i've read the third tome, with the constant "looking like an adolescent" references the more i think noomi is not what the part required... she's good, she's convincing but she's a grown woman...
i agree with you, i expected the actress to look younger, noomi rapace, isnt what i expected, but shes not a bad actress, she just doesnt fit the profile.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
readers were expecting one of these girls in their early twenties that look like 15 or 16 years old... (Jane Birkin when she was 25 was like that)... you find them nowadays in the supermodel industry and not on traditional actresses casting... Noomi Rapace is NOT Lisbeth and I want my money back
I do also think like Silence1408 that salander are an autist with aspergers syndrom... thats why she dosn´t have good social skills and why she have photographick memory..... but ofcourse there is also the bad childhood to blame.. a very interesting woman..
Haha, aspergers isn't really being seen on as an autism, as it is almost impossible to detect it.
I have a friend of mine with it, and he is a calm dude, acting 99% like me, and the chick in the movie is almost psychopathic.
If she chooses to dress as a punk/goth, it is rebelry, not autism. And how insane she becomes if something irritating happens to her? She also got raped several times, and that is not good for your head. It may explain her...wild fury.
Just wait for the press release. You're gonna be watching Will Smith giving Emma Watson a good portion of his foot-long pork sword before you know it.
...Once again where did you get this information? If you're part of the one who cast the roles, then you're the worst person ever for telling unrelased things.
If not; well; when I google it; only hits I get are either yours; or pages where an article about f.ex Emma Watson is linked to one which contains info about Lisbeth stating that her actress is Naomi.
She can't. Who do you think the police would suspect if the lawyer was found murdered or disappeared? She doens't trust authorities or the state whatsoever, so she solved the problem in her own way.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
im gonna spoil the book and the movie for you and for all of you who havent read the book. Harriet was raped by her dad and her brother. She killed her dad, and her brother went away to college, however, during a festival he came back and she ran ways without telling anyone. She left the country and finally settled in Australia, where she married and had one son. Hope that this prevents you from asking crucial questions about the plot of a book or a movie.
I dont know... the actress that they found to play Salander looks rather old. If I remember correctly she supposedly looks like a 12 year old girl, and she also looks anorexic. The actress also seems to be quite tall, and if you read the second book you will find that Salander is rather short, so much that when she is riding a Harley-Davidson, her legs dont reach the floor when she stops it. I really hope the movie does justice to the book though.
I had forgotten that I made a comment in this video. Well, I would tell you that that is you own opinion, however stupid and wrong it is, and I'm entitled to my own opinion, again, however stupid or wrong it may be. If you pay attention to the book, Salander is described as an anorexic teenager, everyone thought that when they first met her. And in the second book, oh no, spoiler!! She tries to buy an apartment and the seller thinks she is a runaway teen. She doesnt look like a runaway teen.
I just watched the american version and O...M...G... What the hell is up with their stupid accents and that everything you read in the movie, the news etc is in swedish? It's so retarded. I know what you mean tho.But for people who have seen it, its kinda like remaking the Sound of Music or Gone With the Wind - you simply can't imagine it redone. We shall see, I could be surprised.

Im happy for every adolescent or old age pensioner who enjoy whatever they´r reading
But this one? Cmon! read & compare Ruth Rendell, John Grisham, Sjöwall-Wahlöö, Mankell, Jan Guillou whatever & then u´ll gain some perspective

the foolish mass behaviour is that u join the cheering bcuz everybody else is cheering

"I don´t care for anyone´s choice of reading "

I have no problem with her at all :)
monstertruckess 2 years ago

Noomi Rapace is NOT Lisbeth, sorry...

readers were expecting one of these girls in their early twenties that look like 15 or 16 years old... (Jane Birkin when she was 25 was like that)... you find them nowadays in the supermodel industry and not on traditional actresses casting... Noomi Rapace is NOT Lisbeth and I want my money back
ryderkuznetsov 2 years ago
Salander is a role that requires an actress who can act... not a supermodel who may look the part but can't act her way out of a paper bag.
AndreasE 2 years ago
I do also think like Silence1408 that salander are an autist with aspergers syndrom... thats why she dosn´t have good social skills and why she have photographick memory..... but ofcourse there is also the bad childhood to blame.. a very interesting woman..
sorry my english stinks.... Majbrit, Denmark
TheKanibalFemale 2 years ago 2
@TheKanibalFemale
It may explain her...wild fury.

im gonna spoil the book and the movie for you and for all of you who havent read the book.
