HoChiMinh won DienBienPhu by helping from Communist China and Soviet, then uncle Ho opened Land Reform in 1955 killing 170,000 people, since 1945 to 1975 Ho killed 750,000 innocent civilians. In TET 1968, uncle Ho also killed 5,000 people at Hue. I admired ARVN, they braved and fought to the end of war. HoChiMinh born to kill people.
I think its commendable how the US have a policy of defending freedom, whether it be their own or somebody elses. Perhaps some will say Im wrong but from my humble standpoint, regardless of whether or not they've always gone about it correctly, the motivation of defending freedom is a great thing.
@SanctumStudios It's not at all about defending freedom. Every country has a right to defend itself from any threat, either external, or from within its own government. It's what America was founded upon, and based on that whole "defending freedom" logic, America was at one time a rogue trrist group and Britian was "defending freedom" by ending it's armies to quell our dissent. Dissent is what a true patriot is about, and we should let it unfold anyhere in the world. People before governments...
@tayjonmartin Your seeing the same thing nowadays , differant war , different country . As a vietnam era vet , I see there all bullshit . As the old adage goes , War is not good for people and other living things . Ron Paul 2012
The debate over who won or lost the Vietnam War - and why - is a trick question. We fought a needless conflict so that 30 years later Hilton could literally set up a hotel in Hanoi and Nike shoes say "Made in Vietnam". It was a wasted effort. We should have learned a lesson about when and why to fight - instead, see the film "Restrepo" and tell me it doesn't look exactly like the footage in this clip.
FoxyBomb,if, as you say,America could have won `easily` then they would have done. The fact is that they didnt and they couldnt and the NVA and the VC were too good plain and simple.
Even if they had invaded the North they would have been beaten by a guerilla war.
Alot of south veitnamesse spent years in reeducation camps after saigons fall. some were not realeased until the mid 80s.I grew up around my uncles who served in nam the served when there country asked them too.a 12 year old with a ak can kill u just as dead as an adult. as a person thats been shot at at the time you dont have time to think you react and the training kicks in. I served 3 years as patrolman and teenagers here sell drugs and shoot at cops more violent world out there
germany was allied with Japan, germany declared War on the united states after we did on japan.
Diem could have been a good leader his brother and sister in law were more corupt than deim was. There were brave south vietnamesse who loved there country often officers were apointed out of political loyalty rather than ability the officer that lead arvn rangers was a good leader but he even gave up and surendered a division at the end
There's roughly 300 families that own this country. they own you, congress, the white house. They own 90% of the stocks that run all military contracts. That's why they call it a military/industrial complex. U will NEVER see military cuts in budget. They'll cut U, the poor, elderly, fixed income, etc, long before they cut their playground. Not in the Vietnam's to liberate. There to sell shit. war is a business. Half of those families couldn't find a Libya on a map to save their life.Couldcareless!
@dudedontcallmedude didnt Australia send troops to Nam? If the dominoe theory had come to fruition isnt it possible in your mind that Australia could be a puppet of the communist chinese or at least had to fight the communists much closer to home? perhaps we should have stayed in our backyards in 42 you would be a subject of the Japanese empire. just a thought. I am sure the South Koreans are glad we came to their aid in 1950 nixon was given the war by Kennedy and johnson, asshole yes, hitler no
Stupid revisionist comment. The war could never have been won. Ho Chi Minh said, You can kill ten of my men for every one I kill of yours, but in the end you will leave. They weren't ever going to stop. And what were we fighting for? to stop th espread of communism which collapsed on its own 15 years later? It didn't matter if we won every conventional battle. That wasn't the point. We were the foreigners and it was their home. The only honor goes to the men who did their best.
i see these guys jumping around celebrating going home guess what most of them wont be not unless they had 10 months or more in country thats the sham about redeployment
why do people say american soldiers in vietnam fought for their country? vietnam was no threat to the US. they had no intentions or plans to go to war against america, invade it or something. they just wanted to get rid of the colonial rulers and be independent. ho chi minh achieved that anyway.
Anytime you take the oath, your fighting for your country . They the one pays. therefore your working for them. Fighting for your country. see it ain't that hard to understand.
@RSTETZY No, he's not. It's truth. America went into vietnam war because 1) american polititians needed to divert attention from the problems they have, 2) to show all the money used for army are well invested, ... They wasn't there because of peace, because someone could treaten USA, because of human rights... Yes I do regret all the men who didn't come back or were wounded. Even more that the war was absolutely pointless.
@kwatemok They say they fought for their country because they were in the army and the commanding general (president) said go to vietnam, so they went and fought and some died there. Some punks today seem to think they can go on the Oprah show and talk about it first and then they will decide if they go to war or not.
@kwatemok actually, it was to maintain a un-communist South Vietnam and to halt the spread of Communism. To every country that gained a socialist flag (via Soviet Union) was like a territory that Russia owned. Sort of Like Hitler and his empire
@kwatemok And Germany was no threat to the US either during WW1 and 2. Its easy to say what your saying now in hindsight but back in the 50s and 60s communism was seen as a big threat. The cold war was on. EVERY country in SE asia had some communist problem , some still do. The reason why communists fight is because they could never get voted in. And once in the never give the public a chance to vote someone else in.
@kwatemok In addition, Diem was as much a nationalist as ho chi minh. I did research on Vietnamese nationalism at university. Diem was as much against the French as any other Vietnamese. He was active in his non-violent resistence. However, he saw Vietnams future as being democratic and sided with americans. He was also corrupt which made him unpopular. ho chi minh was a murderer and the VC were thugs.
@kwatemok Because we wanted to stop the spread of communism or the domino effect which we did after we left because we damaged the North Vietnamese to the point where they couldn't spread communism anymore. Plus we also had a treaty with South Vietnam that promised we would be there for them if anything happened.
i know what it was like in ashua valley on May 69 , but what hurt me more was when i got home to the states in 72 ,and the way i was treated by my own people, thats why i left the state in 73 and never returned, corp smith 2nd 7th charley company,
@martinishful Im not an American, but saddens me to hear this. People are uneducated, or when they are, by the media.... Hope you ve found what you re looking for, respect.
This is why the world hates nationalist Americans, they fought and fight without democraticly questioning their own economic, political and imperially terrorizing systems. No criticism of the own national philosophy to wars or violent acts, and no open political individuality of citizens is allowed or sponsored by the people through their representative systems in the Land of the Free.
only a few men can do what they did. I had a Uncle that was a US Marien in Vietnam and was shot in the head but didn't die and got the purple heart. God bless all those men.
It was a beautiful country with some of most beautiful women I've ever seen. We destroyed their economy with our money and graft, made their old wise men seem fools and turned women into prostitutes with the inflation. And quit too soon as the VC were ready to give up but we beat them to it. War is nothing but waste and tragedy made to seem glorious by the heroic acts of fellow soldiers sacrificing themselves for their fellow troopers and for their ideals of patriotrism. Lucifer's planet
I have just watch the video and you should be proud of all that served in vietnam as i had a uncle and two cousins that where there God bless them all and remeber the ones that did not make it back .
wow this is great footage. usually all you can find is some hippy reporter recording troops walking in a jungle and saying, "these men are patrolling-" blah blah blah. the guys who shot this footage truly captured the war. Thanks to all you guys who fought in the war. The enemy wasn't too strong, the war strategy was just too stupid, we could have taken out North Vietnam very easily.
@FoxyBomb LOL, I'm sorry. The enemy was well equipped, well led, and very brave. However they consistantly lost most battles with the US troops. Apparently you do not now much about how the US fought the war or have only heard tales or second hand annecdotes. The problems the US had with the war was from the president and his advisors who only wanted to incrementally escalate the war, had large numbers of restrictions and allowed no persuet into enemy sanctuaries.
@gerry301 Did you know that America actually lost the Vietnam war? So however many battles the US troops won they couldn't quite win the war... again. Lol.
@FoxyBomb Militarily the US was actually doing quite well when antiwar sentiments and loss of political will at home called for a withdrawel. Nixins 'Peace with Honor' was the plan. After that is was a rapid drawdown of US troops until 1972 when the 'peace treaty' was signed. Obviously the NVA kept right on going and then congress cut off all funds for the South Vietnamese. Finally in 1975 the NVA launched massive attacks that the south could not stop. Loss the war? yes, militarily? No.
@FoxyBomb You must be kidding me. Because they continue to recruit more Taliban and suicide bombers to replace the large number being killed, you somehow feel they do not know how to fight a guerilla war? Do you understand the US military invaded Iraq, a very large country with a large army and destroyed its army them put down an insugency with less than 4000 killed? They invaded Afganistan destroyed Al Queda and pushed the Taliban from their heartland to Pakistan? Yeah. Right.
@gerry301 You are very pro military haha. So much it makes you ignorant, no western power will ever destroy the Taliban or Al Queda. Times are over where we invade countries like little kids fighting, problems should be solved differently nowadays. I see that when I talk about Afghanistan and how The US are failing out there you go and talk about Iraq, hmmm good one. Most people the US kill are allies or the civilians. The US act like a toddler trampling over other peoples countries.
@FoxyBomb Does that mean you will read a few books on the subjects you comment on? I really hope you do. It will open your eyes and perhaps you may learn a few things. Do it for yourself.
@gerry301 Why do all your responses try to belittle me? Asuming that I'm an idiot and have no idea of what's happening in this world, stop acting so up your own arse, there are people who know more than yourself you do realise? I think it's because you know deep down that the forces out in Afghanistan are not effective and are fighting an endless, pointless war. Their motives are not even morally right.
@FoxyBomb The war from the start was mismanaged by President Johnson and Sec Def McNamera. Restrictions against bombing of Haiphong harbor the main sea route for supply, within 35 miles of Hanoi, the SAM sites while they were being constructed. Anything near the border of China, etc.etc. The few times the US bombed around Hanoi with B-52s it hurt the north badly and caused them to return to the negotiation table The north was even more worried because they were running out of SAMs.
@FoxyBomb Can you imagine if the US had done that early on what the outcome of the war could have been and how many lives would have been saved? Or even if they continued to bomb when they finally did. What if US troops were able to operate inside Laos and Cambodia and close down sanctuaries and the Ho Chi Minh trail. Military wants to, leadership says no. And so on and so forth. US troops kicked some serious butt while they were there. And the VC and NVA understood this well.
@FoxyBomb It's funny America could have won the war easy but it's citizens got scared from the tet offensive. But what people don't realize is that that attack was a complet failure on the Vietcong's part. Even the Vietcong's generals admitted it was a failure. America's citizens lost the war in Vietnam not it's soldiers.
@b3tr4y4l maybe not for us, but for the South Vietnamese, Yes there was victory for them. But we abandoned them in their time of need and left them there to be overrun by an enemy we could manage. Because of our media, citizens got the wrong message and protested without knowing what truly was going on. I didn't want America to stay and control Vietnam, I wanted America to stay and help train the south Vietnamese to be able to control their country, and not be afraid of the North.
@xRoughDayx I agree that training SV might have been a better option, in my opinion. Nonetheless SV surrendered 2 years after US&AUS pulled out of Vietnam. So I don't see how there was victory for them.
@b3tr4y4l the whole US intervention was to push back the NVA and the VC so we could train the SV. The US bought time, while destroying enemy forces to make the SV more well trained and stronger. The plan was cut short when the US was forced to ship troops home. The SV were not ready to fight both the NVA and VC. Had the plan continued US forces would have been able to hunt down VC in Laos and Thailand and force would have forced the NVA to hide in the North. Giving SV a strong military foothold.
@b3tr4y4l if your reffering to a tet offensive repeat attack. The NVA and VC had no such strength after the first offensive to do another mass attack. And with the plan the US had they would have cut off the Ho Chin Minh trail which allowed the NVA and VC to get into such a position. The US generals knew exactly how to handle the enemy all they needed was time and trust.
@xRoughDayx You can keep thinking about what could have or would have. The fact of the matter is, that the American public realized that the whole war was bullshit, and had no point. So they pulled out. And South Vietnam lost the war.
@b3tr4y4l false the american public misinterpreted the whole situation. They thought we were losing, in all actuality the American forces were really kicking the ass's of the cowardice VC, and the NVA. Also i hardly see trying to give a country democracy so it won't be bullied by an oppressive North, pointless. Or giving aid to it pointless as well. People say the American Public wised up, false the just got more ignorant.
@xRoughDayx Let them get democracy themselves, that's how civilizations develop. Not by escalating war and contaminating 18% of entire Vietnam with agent orange.
And with all the information that's out today, I don't understand why people don't just admit that the war was a mistake.
The fact that the secretary of defense openly admitted the gulf of tonkin incident was all false should be evidence enough.
@b3tr4y4l with hindsight it's easy to say oh everything is alright now but people don't know what the future holds. Every nation, including America, needed help to establish democracy that's what we were there for training, giving supplies, and providing reinforcements. Also the Gulf of Tonkin incident was not false, the second attack was alleged, which means it could've happened or maybe it didn't. Regardless the North did blatently attacked the US.
@b3tr4y4l i suggest you do the same. There were two incidents. August 2, 1964 the US destroyer, USS Maddox, came unto fire by three North Vietnamese Navy P-4 torpedo boats, sinking one and wounding another. August 4, 1964 the USS Maddox and the USS Turner Joy reported two enemies on their radar, which they believed to be enemy torpedo boats and opened fire. There was no physical evidence of any wreckage, so it is not confirmed whether they were any enemy torpedo boats.
@b3tr4y4l by the time the news had reached the President he had already addressed the America public. Nonetheless the First incident, August 2, 1964, was a real attack. Before you allege that I need to do more research i suggest you have a full and understanding knowledge of what actually happened.
@xRoughDayx Actually, the US won Vietnam militarily dude. We inflicted many more casualties upon the NVA/VC than they did to us. I believe it was somewhere around 1,176,000+ enemy confirmed kills, or possibly more. US was about 58,000. We fucked them up... not our fault that those slimy gooks broke the Paris peace accords and attacked South Vietnam. It was the ARVNs fault for being incompetent. So we didn't lose...
Cant judge a war based on deaths. In nearly all major wars, those who lost the most men won the war. Ex, American Revolutionary War, The American Civil War, The War of 1812 World War 1 and 2. if you look at the Paris peace accords, there was suppose to be a nationwide election in 1956, but since the US and South Vietnam at the time knew that Ho Chi Minh would win against any opponent, The South refused to hold the elections. Therefore the election never took place. War then started.
@ichichiyaya Yeah but Vietnam was a different war, it was a war won through attrition, not ground taken since there were no front lines, the front lines were everywhere. My point is, they didn't defeat our military, we simply left because the politicians cut funding, it wasn't the military's fault. South Vietnam was overtaken because they didn't get their shit together in time, it was their problem to begin with.
@xRoughDayx The media presented the news about Tet as a defeat which misinformed Americans about the state of the war & they pressured the gov't to stop it. At least with today's interactive media, the media can't press its own agenda of sensationalism to the degree it used to.
@xRoughDayx WHAT EVER !! THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM IS NOW A THRIVING UNITED COUNTRY WHICH KICKED OUT CHINESE , JAPS, FRENCH ,BRITS ,AMERICANS AND IN A TRULY MAGNANIMOUS GESTURE WELCOMES + FORGIVES FORMER US VETS WHO WITH MATURITY HAVE COME TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRUTH AND PROPAGANDA . GOD BLESS THOSE ENLIGHTENED AMERICANS .
@FoxyBomb The NVA/VC lost over a million troops during the war. While well led, their leadership was more than willing to expend lives of its people. Please read a few books on LRRPS, Spec Ops, SEALs, SOG, or my favorite "Blackjack 33" . How about the Nung roadrunners who dressed as VC and walked the Ho Chi Minh trail during the war then returned and reported. Some were captured but they were always there, walking the trail and reporting. Much you need to learn.
we didnt get our asses kicked in ireland the IRA is out of action although the americans never retuned to vietnam to probaly beying ass-kicked bi some tunnel rats
@StalkingRainbow I think you should go and play mordern warfare team deatmatch. Body counnt have no meaning in losing or winning. We kick America out of our country that's our only goal, no matter how many Vietnamese had to fall.
@JoshuaMai1 Yes I know we lost, but we didn't get our asses kicked thats what I was showing him. Its obvious we lost (even though I'm not sure how you lose a war if you never declared war in the first place) but we did kick the shit out of the NVA and Vietcong.
Also you're country is a bigger shit hole now than it ever was thanks to communism do you really think we should have left? No offense to your country but thats the best way I could describe it.
@StalkingRainbow LOL, my country now is a bigger shit hole? What do you know, don't tell me you hear information about VIetnam from Old South Gorverment' s video ,they are just shameful bitchs, who sell their country to foreign.
I'm a Vietnamese who was born in Vietnam not like them. And I'm seeing my country better everyday by my own eyes. We held a lot of international events, we joined WTO. Thank to America 's embargo we has a hard time after the war. but now everything have changes.
@ilovemesomechicken maybe you talks about N.Korea. But hey, we are totally different.. We have internet all over the country, 3g network too. It easy for every body to own a mobile phone, we also have xbox360 and ps3. Kentucky, Starbus and lottery are invading us. We are ranked second in exporting rice after Thailand, so it's nonsensed for us to have hungry people. These are some simple examples I came up quickly based on "America standard", lol.
@JoshuaMai1 Vietnam is a piece of shit country. Bodycount has no mean in winning? So if you killed 5 of my people but i killed 90% of your people then said this is getting boring and just left your country, you would consider that a win? HAHAAHAH Body count is very important and the only reason we pulled out was because we were foolish enough to allow the media to show what war was like. Other then that we pretty much fuckd you guys up. The hippies saved your country from being dominated.
@ilovemesomechicken Troll harder...War also includes diplomatic. We have the support of advance people of the world, 100% Vietnamese believed in the party ( don't count some south bitches). For your question , yes we consider it'a win. What is your goal when war with us? Our goal is liberting and unifying our country, we achieved our goal, so we call it a win.
@ilovemesomechicken and also, why USA fucked up Japan by atomic bomb but nobody complain about it? Because at that time, you guys carried on Justice, but when USa brought men to Vietnam, it's just invasion and no more.
@JoshuaMai1 No it was to stop the spread of communism, other then heroin your country has shit. You say 100% believe in communism yet the country was divided...WOW you just ownd yourself there. You did not kick us out of vietnam, we left because of thie hippies. If it wasent for them we would woopd your asses even more. You claim your govermnet is all good and 100%of the people love it. Well then why dont you guys have freedom of speech and why is it illegal to change the goverment?
@ilovemesomechicken south goverment was build by America to prevent the freedom vote for unifing the country after the France left. They was all trained by USA, back at that time, south people love the party, we fought France together. In case you don't know, Viet cong is a group of south people who was oppress by the south goverment, so they fought back. The north help them with training, ammo and together we libertied the country. That's the proof that the south people also support the party.
@ilovemesomechicken How come a social repulic country have another government other than communist party? Now the government makes some mistake. But we the next generation is trying hard everyday in learning and training to build the country, to join the party in order to make it better. Our government do their best in supporting us to fullfill our dream. We do have freedom speech, ok? When you couldn't win, you have to withdraw, and like I said before, war includes diplomatic.
@JoshuaMai1 You call locking people up who want to express the freedom top speak out for 25 years a mistake? Your goverment is so fucking corrupt with human rights its as bad as the middle east almost. If i went to Vietnam and protested for human rights, they would lock me up. Its kind of sad when the people have to fear their goverment, its supposed to be the other way around, Vietnam is a piece of shit and i cant believe you actually believe Vietnam way of life is good ahahhahaha
@ilovemesomechicken I see, it's pointless to do conversation with you. How come you khows more about my country then its peoples? Việt Nam was bad because of the war, but we improved it every day. I repeat it one last time, we have all the basic human right and freedom speech. Don't just sit in another country and talk like you know everything about us. Believe it ot not it up to you. no need to reply. After this day I will have to go offline about 2 months for my project.
@JoshuaMai1 lol So what your saying is you must live in a country to know how the human rights are? I guess because i was not alive in Germany during Hitler reign it must have been like heaven, after all i was not there so for all i know Jews lived like kings there. That arguement made no sense and i just shut you down with the human rights in vietnam. I would love for you to protest outside a building saying how you no longer want censorship, see ow long untill you vanish
@ilovemesomechicken I'm sorry to interject into your very "interesting" argument, but I would like to ask you a few questions and also leave a few statements headed your way. First off, why would you (and a majority of Americans on this topic) put all the blame onto the Hippie movement? It wasn't primarily the reason why we left Vietnam. Seriously, look at the expenditures we were making with all the soldiers and supplies we were sending there.
@ilovemesomechicken And also look at the fact that even news casts and such were against the war. Second, we wouldn't have even "woopd" their asses as you claim, since we barely had anything left to fight with after the bombings. The Tet Offensive could have easily knocked us back a few years, and that's something we wouldn't want. And another statement I would like to throw out there is that freedom means many things to different cultures.
@ilovemesomechicken You're going about with the Supremist thoughts of freedom when not even considering the crap that every government gives us. It is also illegal here, as Vietnam, to try to change the government, and freedom of speech isn't exactly what it's cracked up to be. Human rights and Civil freedoms mean different things to all who look at them, either Vietnam or the Arab countries.
@ilovemesomechicken But the fact is that none of us are free, and wishing we were is like dreaming that one day, we"ll be rich mcmansions owners who get laid by plastic women every night. But even that is not true freedom. In this world, no matter where we live, we are doomed to be bricks in the walls of our constructed societies. I would only assume that you would call me either a sympathizer, or an anarachist, or whatever. But I am simply a pessimist, and believe in the dark truth.
@ilovemesomechicken Well for starters, my art career hasn't been so fruitful, as censorship laws seem to get in there way. Back in my high school days, I created a poster of a bluddy arm writing a message to show how we should use the Holocaust as a message, and it was given a zero because of the usage of blood. My senior exit speech was cut short because I tried to show my opinion of wasting our time with similar education plans when we should follow education paths of the careers we want.
@ilovemesomechicken And then there's the fact of the airport rules and guidelines, don't get me started on those haha. Apparently, everyone going from Flint to San Francisco is a terrorist, and must be strip searched. That or I won a random selection like they told me. And then look at walmart. I had my first job there, and I wasn't given any liberties really, and if I actually wanted a pay raise for having to make up for three workers who quit in the first week, I would be threatened with
@ilovemesomechicken Im guessing my four previous comments never reached you, I had more examples. Oh well, but its the concept that matters. Where our live's are set up to be that we spend our youth in an education of why we are great, and then our jobs ARE the rest of our lives. The fact that we all have hopes and dreams, and they are only there to keep us going, because in our bleak reality, we are nothing more than casualties. As some people would like to say about vietnam.
@Kite117 I did not see those message my bad, the bloody arm thing was most likely a school policy, like how you cant wear a shirt with some guy jacking off on it, it has nothing to do with the goverment or freedom. Airport security has policies, your forgetting 911, they want to be safe and its not like they force you to fly, drive if you dont like it. Your examples are not real examples that show you dont have freedom. Your clearly looking for a country that allows murder and rape.
@ilovemesomechicken Oh my god. Well I was trying to make a point here through a concept, but you take things too literally so yeah, and also, who do you think all those rules came from? The laws made sure that airports have such rules, and also, a bloody arm is nothing compared to a guy jacking off. ALSO, I no longer use airlines, and I do not drive because I do not believe in feeding the troll that is the oil companies, so I back everywhere now, unless it's cross country.
@Kite117 LMAO i take things to literal? You gave me examples that i was able to explain away. Pretty much if i said your not allowed to have child porn you would say im supressing your freedom. You clearly dont realize that theres a difference between being free and laws that ensure a good way of life . Love how your bitching that walmart wouldent give you a pay raise so clearly your rights were violated hahahah Your a troll FAIL
@JoshuaMai1 Why is it if you protest the goverment they lock you up? its sad how in your country human righ groups must go underground to protest, Thích Quảng Độ is a example of someone your country lockd up for 25 years because of his struggle for human rights. Other examples are Pham Hong Son, Nguyen Khac Toan, Nguyen Van Ly, Phan Van Ban, Nguyen Chi Thien and Nguyen Van Dai. All people your overment lockd up because they believed in human rights. You country hates its people.
@ilovemesomechicken I lol so hard at this one. Thích Quảng ĐỘ is a motherfucker. He did a lot of bad thing just for profit. Trust me, the wiki just be written by you_know_who. I don't know what you mean in"lock you up" but come on, we have all the basic human right: education, we can follow any religion we want, we also have Islam churchs here. My friend are Christian and Buddism, some follow " Cao Đài" religion. In addition, Viet Nam have 54 races, and we live peacefully without racism.
@HerbWalker that law is in place because teenagers are more prone to get in car wrecks, plus when you put alcohol on top of that you have car crash city.
@trp11078 I Can't Believe You. You Really Went The Fuck Out Of Your Way To Go To My Profile, Look At My Age, And Try To Call Me A Fuckin Liar? You Can't Say Shit If You Don't Fuckin Know Me
I was with the 82nd back in 1981 - 1984, 1st 504th B Co. 1st Platoon. Then, decided I had enough of Civilian life and reup for 4 more years. Call me stupid but, I am alive and lucky. I miss the excitment and boredom too. To this day I can remember it like yesterday.
ok so many people are talking shit on here. so i just gotta say amazing. i wanted to be a war documentarian but holy shit i dont have the balls to get shot at haha.
If i recall this is Letters from Vietnam a very good movie that not only shows the evolution of the vietnam war but its also to the tune of awesome music which really sets the mood
@haggard969 Well in that case I can only say you are punk coward fuck .Shame I would love to meet you in person you.It would be the worst day of your miserable life.
@ianmetalhead oh yeah , your probly just sum little 13 year old kid talking shit over the net, i dont got much to complain about im my life but you must have it shitty considering you just go around and talk shit to people you dont even know over the net, you think your so solid threatening me over the net like fuck your just a goof
@pwkid when did i make fun of soldiers? all i said is that its comical when americans go to war , like american propaganda because americans are so well known for war that it seems comical , so how the fuck was i making fun of fighting men? and besides , i should be making fun of fighting men , becuz any man who fights physically it not a man at all , he is just a child
@haggard969 "any man who fights physically it not a man at all" ---- If you think that all problems can be solved by talking or writing a letter of complaint, then you are in no sense a man.
@haggard969 That's different. I was talking more of fighting in defense of yourself or others who aren't able to defend themselves. Attacking defenseless people is immoral.

I think its commendable how the US have a policy of defending freedom, whether it be their own or somebody elses. Perhaps some will say Im wrong but from my humble standpoint, regardless of whether or not they've always gone about it correctly, the motivation of defending freedom is a great thing.
SanctumStudios 1 week ago
@SanctumStudios It's not at all about defending freedom. Every country has a right to defend itself from any threat, either external, or from within its own government. It's what America was founded upon, and based on that whole "defending freedom" logic, America was at one time a rogue trrist group and Britian was "defending freedom" by ending it's armies to quell our dissent. Dissent is what a true patriot is about, and we should let it unfold anyhere in the world. People before governments...

There's roughly 300 families that own this country. they own you, congress, the white house. They own 90% of the stocks that run all military contracts. That's why they call it a military/industrial complex. U will NEVER see military cuts in budget.

@kwatemok actually, it was to maintain a un-communist South Vietnam and to halt the spread of Communism. To every country that gained a socialist flag (via Soviet Union) was like a territory that Russia owned. Sort of Like Hitler and his empire
bloodhoun138 3 months ago

@CDBigShow I'm sorry but the enemy was extremely strong. America does not know how to fight against guerrilla warfare.
FoxyBomb 8 months ago
@FoxyBomb LOL, I'm sorry. The enemy was well equipped, well led, and very brave. However they consistantly lost most battles with the US troops. Apparently you do not now much about how the US fought the war or have only heard tales or second hand annecdotes. The problems the US had with the war was from the president and his advisors who only wanted to incrementally escalate the war, had large numbers of restrictions and allowed no persuet into enemy sanctuaries.
gerry301 4 months ago
@gerry301 Did you know that America actually lost the Vietnam war? So however many battles the US troops won they couldn't quite win the war... again. Lol.
FoxyBomb 4 months ago
@FoxyBomb Militarily the US was actually doing quite well when antiwar sentiments and loss of political will at home called for a withdrawel. Nixins 'Peace with Honor' was the plan. After that is was a rapid drawdown of US troops until 1972 when the 'peace treaty' was signed. Obviously the NVA kept right on going and then congress cut off all funds for the South Vietnamese. Finally in 1975 the NVA launched massive attacks that the south could not stop. Loss the war? yes, militarily? No.
gerry301 4 months ago
@gerry301 America cannot fight guerrilla warfare, being proven right now in Afghanistan.
FoxyBomb 4 months ago
@FoxyBomb You must be kidding me. Because they continue to recruit more Taliban and suicide bombers to replace the large number being killed, you somehow feel they do not know how to fight a guerilla war? Do you understand the US military invaded Iraq, a very large country with a large army and destroyed its army them put down an insugency with less than 4000 killed? They invaded Afganistan destroyed Al Queda and pushed the Taliban from their heartland to Pakistan? Yeah. Right.
gerry301 4 months ago
@gerry301 You are very pro military haha. So much it makes you ignorant, no western power will ever destroy the Taliban or Al Queda. Times are over where we invade countries like little kids fighting, problems should be solved differently nowadays. I see that when I talk about Afghanistan and how The US are failing out there you go and talk about Iraq, hmmm good one. Most people the US kill are allies or the civilians. The US act like a toddler trampling over other peoples countries.

FoxyBomb 4 months ago
@FoxyBomb The war from the start was mismanaged by President Johnson and Sec Def McNamera. Restrictions against bombing of Haiphong harbor the main sea route for supply, within 35 miles of Hanoi, the SAM sites while they were being constructed. Anything near the border of China, etc.etc. The few times the US bombed around Hanoi with B-52s it hurt the north badly and caused them to return to the negotiation table The north was even more worried because they were running out of SAMs.
gerry301 4 months ago
@FoxyBomb Can you imagine if the US had done that early on what the outcome of the war could have been and how many lives would have been saved? Or even if they continued to bomb when they finally did. What if US troops were able to operate inside Laos and Cambodia and close down sanctuaries and the Ho Chi Minh trail. Military wants to, leadership says no. And so on and so forth. US troops kicked some serious butt while they were there. And the VC and NVA understood this well.
gerry301 4 months ago
@FoxyBomb I will say it again, "your understanding of the war and how it was fought is minimal." Please take me up on my recommended reading list.
gerry301 4 months ago
@FoxyBomb It's funny America could have won the war easy but it's citizens got scared from the tet offensive. But what people don't realize is that that attack was a complet failure on the Vietcong's part. Even the Vietcong's generals admitted it was a failure. America's citizens lost the war in Vietnam not it's soldiers.

b3tr4y4l 3 months ago
@b3tr4y4l maybe not for us, but for the South Vietnamese, Yes there was victory for them. But we abandoned them in their time of need and left them there to be overrun by an enemy we could manage. Because of our media, citizens got the wrong message and protested without knowing what truly was going on. I didn't want America to stay and control Vietnam, I wanted America to stay and help train the south Vietnamese to be able to control their country, and not be afraid of the North.
xRoughDayx 3 months ago
@xRoughDayx I agree that training SV might have been a better option, in my opinion. Nonetheless SV surrendered 2 years after US&AUS pulled out of Vietnam. So I don't see how there was victory for them.
b3tr4y4l 3 months ago
@b3tr4y4l the whole US intervention was to push back the NVA and the VC so we could train the SV. The US bought time, while destroying enemy forces to make the SV more well trained and stronger. The plan was cut short when the US was forced to ship troops home. The SV were not ready to fight both the NVA and VC. Had the plan continued US forces would have been able to hunt down VC in Laos and Thailand and force would have forced the NVA to hide in the North. Giving SV a strong military foothold.
xRoughDayx 3 months ago
@xRoughDayx Which in turn led to Saigon being invaded, surrender, prisoner.

b3tr4y4l 3 months ago
@b3tr4y4l if your reffering to a tet offensive repeat attack. The NVA and VC had no such strength after the first offensive to do another mass attack. And with the plan the US had they would have cut off the Ho Chin Minh trail which allowed the NVA and VC to get into such a position. The US generals knew exactly how to handle the enemy all they needed was time and trust.
xRoughDayx 3 months ago
@xRoughDayx You can keep thinking about what could have or would have. The fact of the matter is, that the American public realized that the whole war was bullshit, and had no point. So they pulled out. And South Vietnam lost the war.
Accept history.
b3tr4y4l 3 months ago
@b3tr4y4l false the american public misinterpreted the whole situation. They thought we were losing, in all actuality the American forces were really kicking the ass's of the cowardice VC, and the NVA. Also i hardly see trying to give a country democracy so it won't be bullied by an oppressive North, pointless. Or giving aid to it pointless as well. People say the American Public wised up, false the just got more ignorant.
xRoughDayx 3 months ago
@xRoughDayx Let them get democracy themselves, that's how civilizations develop. Not by escalating war and contaminating 18% of entire Vietnam with agent orange.
And with all the information that's out today, I don't understand why people don't just admit that the war was a mistake.
The fact that the secretary of defense openly admitted the gulf of tonkin incident was all false should be evidence enough.
b3tr4y4l 3 months ago
@b3tr4y4l with hindsight it's easy to say oh everything is alright now but people don't know what the future holds. Every nation, including America, needed help to establish democracy that's what we were there for training, giving supplies, and providing reinforcements. Also the Gulf of Tonkin incident was not false, the second attack was alleged, which means it could've happened or maybe it didn't. Regardless the North did blatently attacked the US.
xRoughDayx 3 months ago
@xRoughDayx I suggest you do some research.
b3tr4y4l 3 months ago
@b3tr4y4l i suggest you do the same. There were two incidents. August 2, 1964 the US destroyer, USS Maddox, came unto fire by three North Vietnamese Navy P-4 torpedo boats, sinking one and wounding another. August 4, 1964 the USS Maddox and the USS Turner Joy reported two enemies on their radar, which they believed to be enemy torpedo boats and opened fire. There was no physical evidence of any wreckage, so it is not confirmed whether they were any enemy torpedo boats.
xRoughDayx 3 months ago

So we didn't lose...
xXSgtWolfXx 2 months ago
Cant judge a war based on deaths. In nearly all major wars, those who lost the most men won the war. Ex, American Revolutionary War, The American Civil War, The War of 1812 World War 1 and 2. if you look at the Paris peace accords, there was suppose to be a nationwide election in 1956, but since the US and South Vietnam at the time knew that Ho Chi Minh would win against any opponent, The South refused to hold the elections. Therefore the election never took place. War then started.
ichichiyaya 2 months ago
@ichichiyaya Yeah but Vietnam was a different war, it was a war won through attrition, not ground taken since there were no front lines, the front lines were everywhere. My point is, they didn't defeat our military, we simply left because the politicians cut funding, it wasn't the military's fault. South Vietnam was overtaken because they didn't get their shit together in time, it was their problem to begin with.

The hippies saved your country from being dominated.

ilovemesomechicken 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken south goverment was build by America to prevent the freedom vote for unifing the country after the France left. They was all trained by USA, back at that time, south people love the party, we fought France together. In case you don't know, Viet cong is a group of south people who was oppress by the south goverment, so they fought back. The north help them with training, ammo and together we libertied the country. That's the proof that the south people also support the party.

Its kind of sad when the people have to fear their goverment, its supposed to be the other way around, Vietnam is a piece of shit and i cant believe you actually believe Vietnam way of life is good ahahhahaha
ilovemesomechicken 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken I see, it's pointless to do conversation with you. How come you khows more about my country then its peoples? Việt Nam was bad because of the war, but we improved it every day. I repeat it one last time, we have all the basic human right and freedom speech. Don't just sit in another country and talk like you know everything about us. Believe it ot not it up to you. no need to reply. After this day I will have to go offline about 2 months for my project.
JoshuaMai1 9 months ago
@JoshuaMai1 lol So what your saying is you must live in a country to know how the human rights are? I guess because i was not alive in Germany during Hitler reign it must have been like heaven, after all i was not there so for all i know Jews lived like kings there. That arguement made no sense and i just shut you down with the human rights in vietnam. I would love for you to protest outside a building saying how you no longer want censorship, see ow long untill you vanish
ilovemesomechicken 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken I'm sorry to interject into your very "interesting" argument, but I would like to ask you a few questions and also leave a few statements headed your way. First off, why would you (and a majority of Americans on this topic) put all the blame onto the Hippie movement? It wasn't primarily the reason why we left Vietnam. Seriously, look at the expenditures we were making with all the soldiers and supplies we were sending there.
Kite117 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken And also look at the fact that even news casts and such were against the war. Second, we wouldn't have even "woopd" their asses as you claim, since we barely had anything left to fight with after the bombings. The Tet Offensive could have easily knocked us back a few years, and that's something we wouldn't want. And another statement I would like to throw out there is that freedom means many things to different cultures.
Kite117 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken You're going about with the Supremist thoughts of freedom when not even considering the crap that every government gives us. It is also illegal here, as Vietnam, to try to change the government, and freedom of speech isn't exactly what it's cracked up to be. Human rights and Civil freedoms mean different things to all who look at them, either Vietnam or the Arab countries.
Kite117 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken But the fact is that none of us are free, and wishing we were is like dreaming that one day, we"ll be rich mcmansions owners who get laid by plastic women every night. But even that is not true freedom. In this world, no matter where we live, we are doomed to be bricks in the walls of our constructed societies. I would only assume that you would call me either a sympathizer, or an anarachist, or whatever. But I am simply a pessimist, and believe in the dark truth.
Kite117 9 months ago
@Kite117 Explain how you are not free, give me examples
ilovemesomechicken 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken Well for starters, my art career hasn't been so fruitful, as censorship laws seem to get in there way. Back in my high school days, I created a poster of a bluddy arm writing a message to show how we should use the Holocaust as a message, and it was given a zero because of the usage of blood. My senior exit speech was cut short because I tried to show my opinion of wasting our time with similar education plans when we should follow education paths of the careers we want.
Kite117 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken And then there's the fact of the airport rules and guidelines, don't get me started on those haha. Apparently, everyone going from Flint to San Francisco is a terrorist, and must be strip searched. That or I won a random selection like they told me. And then look at walmart. I had my first job there, and I wasn't given any liberties really, and if I actually wanted a pay raise for having to make up for three workers who quit in the first week, I would be threatened with
Kite117 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken even more work. And don't get me started with my father.
Kite117 9 months ago
@Kite117 lol what does our father have to do with freedom? LMAO
ilovemesomechicken 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken Im guessing my four previous comments never reached you, I had more examples. Oh well, but its the concept that matters. Where our live's are set up to be that we spend our youth in an education of why we are great, and then our jobs ARE the rest of our lives. The fact that we all have hopes and dreams, and they are only there to keep us going, because in our bleak reality, we are nothing more than casualties. As some people would like to say about vietnam.
Kite117 9 months ago
@Kite117 I did not see those message my bad, the bloody arm thing was most likely a school policy, like how you cant wear a shirt with some guy jacking off on it, it has nothing to do with the goverment or freedom. Airport security has policies, your forgetting 911, they want to be safe and its not like they force you to fly, drive if you dont like it. Your examples are not real examples that show you dont have freedom. Your clearly looking for a country that allows murder and rape.
ilovemesomechicken 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken Oh my god. Well I was trying to make a point here through a concept, but you take things too literally so yeah, and also, who do you think all those rules came from? The laws made sure that airports have such rules, and also, a bloody arm is nothing compared to a guy jacking off. ALSO, I no longer use airlines, and I do not drive because I do not believe in feeding the troll that is the oil companies, so I back everywhere now, unless it's cross country.
Kite117 9 months ago
@Kite117 LMAO i take things to literal? You gave me examples that i was able to explain away. Pretty much if i said your not allowed to have child porn you would say im supressing your freedom. You clearly dont realize that theres a difference between being free and laws that ensure a good way of life . Love how your bitching that walmart wouldent give you a pay raise so clearly your rights were violated hahahah Your a troll FAIL
ilovemesomechicken 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken And while I don't believe in feeding the trolls, I am, for some odd reason, still talking to you.
Kite117 9 months ago
@JoshuaMai1 Why is it if you protest the goverment they lock you up? its sad how in your country human righ groups must go underground to protest, Thích Quảng Độ is a example of someone your country lockd up for 25 years because of his struggle for human rights. Other examples are Pham Hong Son, Nguyen Khac Toan, Nguyen Van Ly, Phan Van Ban, Nguyen Chi Thien and Nguyen Van Dai. All people your overment lockd up because they believed in human rights. You country hates its people.
ilovemesomechicken 9 months ago
@ilovemesomechicken I lol so hard at this one. Thích Quảng ĐỘ is a motherfucker. He did a lot of bad thing just for profit. Trust me, the wiki just be written by you_know_who. I don't know what you mean in"lock you up" but come on, we have all the basic human right: education, we can follow any religion we want, we also have Islam churchs here. My friend are Christian and Buddism, some follow " Cao Đài" religion. In addition, Viet Nam have 54 races, and we live peacefully without racism.

mocslayer813 5 months ago
@HerbWalker that law is in place because teenagers are more prone to get in car wrecks, plus when you put alcohol on top of that you have car crash city.

I was with the 82nd back in 1981 - 1984, 1st 504th B Co. 1st Platoon. Then, decided I had enough of Civilian life and reup for 4 more years. Call me stupid but, I am alive and lucky. I miss the excitment and boredom too. To this day I can remember it like yesterday.

haggard969 1 year ago
@haggard969 "any man who fights physically it not a man at all" ---- If you think that all problems can be solved by talking or writing a letter of complaint, then you are in no sense a man.

@Dominick629 well when you fighting agaisnt people who are defensless
haggard969 1 year ago
@haggard969 That's different. I was talking more of fighting in defense of yourself or others who aren't able to defend themselves. Attacking defenseless people is immoral.
