I think this song reflects how that individuals who have made wrong choices in life such as: drugs, prison, where society no longer considers them first class anymore in our late 20th and 21st century have a harsher reality than most people can imagine, simply because they are now misfits who's children will have to suffer along with them and endure the past sin's of their fathers and mothers who try to achieve the impossible, and who refuse to just lay down and die.
This song is very beautiful, but like most people, I thought that the song was about brothers going into the service. When focusing on that point alone, it makes it very sad. Remember, a whole lot of brothers didn't come back. Thx for the music

Ready to go fight in Vietnam? I don't think so. I always thought this was about being bused to the other side of town for a "new" approach to education. The uncertainty about getting to go was based on all the violence and upheaval over busing, I figured. Time for some research!
All these songs by the chi-Lites really bring back the good olddays, or should I say oldschool, When I met my first love M. Ross, Thank you Chi-Lites.
stunning song about having to go............ Fight a war in Vietnam !!!!!......It was still Draft >>>>>>sincere and courageous more strong than Cassius Clay !!!!
@lopescone This song has nothing to do with Muhammad Ali not going to Vietnam. He a warrior and you are fool for fighting for a country that dose not belong to you.Now you have blood on your hands.White americana used us like they us for the civil war.White americas stole invaded and enslave killed for this country
