Its an error in the Main Chinese Code of XP. The squares are actually: 畢桳栠摩琠敨映捡獴 which is chinese. Notepad just cant display the error.

It's not a "secret" it's a glitch.

If you type a four letter word, then a 3 letter word, 3 letter and a 5 letter word and save it.

When you open it, Notepad can't decide whether it's Unicode or not, and displays random Unicode characters.

Unicode is extra characters, like for example, arabic letters and images (eg. Smiley Face)

You can view Unicode characters using Character Map.

It can be found:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map

The "squares" mean that the PC can't display those characters (eg. The font doesn't have those characters).
