Shaykh `Abdullah Gunayman, a leading Salafi scholar who specializes in creed, admits that Salahuddin al-Ayyubi was Ash`ari and that this is stated by Imam al-Dhahabi in his Siyar and he played an important role in establishing Azhari Ash`arism and brought Sufi khanqas to the land.
