This music to me is simply overwhelming! It is truly sweeping and majestic. My tastes in music have been described to me as eclectic, as I am as comfortable with Dvorak as I am Dokken. If this music doesn't move you, check your pulse, because it makes you glad to be alive!
Yepes' performance of this concerto was my introduction to the piece about 27 years ago. I was intrigued by his use of a ten stringed instrument. I think he plays the cadenza on this performance beautifully!
This is so awesome. Thanks so much for posting this video. My marching band is actually playing this for our show this year and I'm playing the solo in the beginning but I'm playing it as a trumpet solo not as an oboe solo. This is where I was told to get the style from
What can I say about Narciso Yepes? What can I say about the guitarist to whom we owe the international success of the Concerto de Aranjuez? Yes, it was in Paris in 1947 where Ataulfo Argenta, Yepes and the Spanish National Orchestra met to illuminate my unique opus at a time when no one knew its true future. From then on, the Concierto de Aranjuez took on a new nature, and it is for this same reason that I am grateful to Narciso Yepes for the fruit of an intense collaboration
that has brought us to travel our musical trajectories side-by-side. I will not say that Yepes was the best nor the worst. He has simply been my guitarist par excellence. My guitarist.
Joaquin Rodrigo in « El Mundo » May 4, 1997 (in commemoration of the Maestro's passing)
Beautifull......everytime I hear this is makes me tearfull...one for quiet contemplation....the oboeing makes my spine shiver, the strings.....like deepest inner turmoil and then peace. Fantastic piece of music................Thank you M.Yepes.
I finally found this piece of art, this is an great song and an excellent performance. This is the kind of music we should teach and show our children, this music is full of life.
This is my favorite piece of music. I love this version, but I have to say that I prefer Paco de Lucia's. (But I still wish I could play that guitar:)
@AnonymousOneThree Paco de Lucia is certainly a great musician, but since he does not read sheet music, would you care to guess who he asked to coach him on the Aranjuez concerto? Anyway, thanks for stopping by.
Is there any DVD of this record ? Can we find it in a music / movie / specialized store ? I'd like to watch the entire concerto. Thank you for your help and for posting such a fabulous piece of Music !

Many thanks to Drewdavis58 for sharing this and providing excellent notes. I first heard the legendary Yepes/Argenta/ Nat. Orch. of Spain recording in 1958 and still own and play a dozen of those pressings. I cannot tell which orchestra de Burgos is conducting, not recognizing the players. Could you add that information to your notes? Thank you.
hmm great music hmm heared first time as a music background of diego armando maradona (a villian or a victim) and his country .really leaves u starring !!
I was aching for something to move my soul ; this sets me into a state of chaos. It moves me into confusion. It is so sad. It is so beautifull. It is perfection.
I am very liberal, musicaly. Let music be gone; but not this masterpiece as is.
@alvesarmando762 So sad and so beautiful. it was written in Paris. I donot remember the exact date, but around the 1940 Mrs Rodrigo was expecting A BABY and had a miscarrage in the hospital. Rodrigo went home and wrote one of the most beautiful music piece ever. (hope my english is good enough to be understood)
I was so happy when I found out that this music was created in so called modern times, and it gives me hope that it is still possible to create serious beauty even in our dark ages !

@drewdavis58 There was a program on BBC radio 4 about Rodrigo. They said that he wrote this movement after his son died.
Ever since I heard that, I cannot listen to this without thinking how he must have poured all his pain and anguish into the music.
Thankyou for posting his Concierto de Aranjuez.

It is almost unnoticable but it is there !!! However, it does not change anything at his great performance !!

This music is life itself.
With its ups and downs, with its moments of hope and those of despair.
The struggle is there, always present, as the feeling of reward.
Maybe with a happier ending in the music.
