I'm personally a fan of both DMB and Phish. Anyone who denies the talent of ANY member of DMB is ridiculously stupid. Those are some seriously skilled musicians. And Dave's an incredibly talented songwriter (especially if you listen beyond their "radio hits"). There is absolutely nothing wrong with writing music for a lot of people, which is what DMB does. Though, I do not truly consider them a "pop" or "mainstream" group by any other means...

As the other person commented....Phish goes waaaayyyy deeper than DMB, in that respect they are not even close. My first view of this early, Trey fully bearded version of an incredible song.

And I'm also not saying that phish is anywhere near the musical talent of artists such as Coltrane and Davis or artists such as Chick Corea, Thelonius Monk, or the like...I just want to make a point that the more mainstream an artists is (Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, and all other no-talent-ass-clowns who make music just to make more money), generally, the less musical knowledge you will actually end up finding they possess. Phish rocks cuz they love music; DMB sucks cuz they love money.

@dylan1728-I HATE the people who use arguments such as yours. There is a reason DMB is mainstream and phish is not; it's because they make music that pertains to pop culture-NOT because they are "better" than anyone. Miles Davis and John Coltrane aren't in mainstream pop music - and not a single member of "the DMB" is half as talented as these artists. Just because an artist has more dumbass, musically ignorant followers does not make them better-I believe it shows how bad they really are...

DMB can suck my balls. Hes way too corny and and his voice doesnt compare to treys. Phish is way deeper. All daves songs except for a few are comparable to pop chick music.

DMB is undoubtedly better than Phish. i listen to and enjoy both bands, but Phish's jam's are too random and drift too much, plus Trey does not have a great voice like Dave does, there is a reason DMB is somewhat mainstream and phish is not at all
