I understand that the pilot was shot almost a year or more before the series aired. So Will definitely was younger than he was in the series. If you watch the remade pilot, some of this footage is interwoven and you can see different haircuts, etc. for some of the characters

It's probably a good thing Jeremy couldn't keep the role - otherwise he get to play Christopher in the Dawson's Creek finale! Since YA was a spin-off, fans would have picked up on it. Although I would have loved to see him every week instead of just 1 episode of DC.
