It definitely wasn't a check from behind, and MacDonald did make it a little tricky for him by slowing up near the boards looking one way then reversing, but Cote had enough time to see how far away from the boards he was, and he left his feet for the check, so he definitely deserves the call.

Wow huge hit - NOT from behind but this is usually called because its a dangerous situation. He's only a foot from the boards and now he's stopping. Since Cote didn't slow down one bit, the hit sends MacDonald flying into the boards. The hit is clean, but this will still usually get a boarding call, especially since Cote kept full stride and nailed him. If that was open ice or if Macdonald was still at stride, this would not be called. Just my opinion.
