Thats because animation in most countries has been labled as being "childish". In Japan animation is veiwed differently from most countries. For example, here in America animated shows have allways been intended for preteen audiances while live action shows are intended for the teenaged viewers (Disney is a good example for this). While in Japan Animated shows are made for a much wider range of ages from children to teenagers,and even a few for young adults.

The truth is the only reason some one would hate anime is because of the "childish" lable that animation has in most of the world. People tend to immediately accept the general view of thier peers which means most people who say they hate anime are saying so with out ever really giving it a chance.

With the things you have said I would suggest you try watching "ghost in the shell" or if you would prefer a less scifi themed show I would suggest "Death Note". Neither of these shows have much to do with ninjas or dragon balls and very few super human powers wich resemble constipation. Instead these two shows are a more intellectualy based story line. (anime with a plot thats gotta just blow your mind)
