I still think they should build a version of this to slot below the R8. Similar to how the Cayman/Boxster is below the 911.  They could even push the R8 further upmarket....

Nice, that Audi finally got mid engined model (R8) into production couple of years ago. I guess that these concepts like Le mans, Project Rosemeyer, Avus and this Quattro spider all have roots in the secret prototype from 80´s called RS 002, which was meant to be mid engined model to Group B/S rally serie.

Surely this was Audi's greatest marketing blunder. If they had made and sold just 100 of these cars then in one leap the image of Audi would have been transformed. An Audi would have been seen as a really glamorous car, like a... Bugatti.

Audi built exactly two prototypes of tis car, none was sold :-) but luckily they got back on the course now

such a great car...to good for the 90s they had to wait until now to sell their midengine sportscar (r8). well of course the new design is a "bit" better ;-)
