I remember when I was a little kid this movie scared the hell out of me with the Red Bull and the Harpy and that creepy king dude...I haven't watched it in maybe fifteen years but found the VHS in an tote box in my attic so I might give it a go.
What the hell was this sunday evening style spineless, formless, odorless and completely meaningless advertisement? I have seen quite some shit, but to introduce something like the last unicorn like a sunday night fucking football match...
Oh gosh, I think the first trailer they put out was much better. :O Although it looks like a girly movie, it's very mysterious and I think a boy could watch it and be entertained, but this trailer makes every boy fear for their man-pride if they watch it XD
that was my absolutly favourite Film from the 80´s - i had saw this Film first when i was 8 Years old - only the Red Bull had scared me this time... but now i remember it with good feelings, saw this film - and the Soundtrack - so Beautiful...
I love this movie! I have him this year for at least 45 or 50 times seen on DVD! I can memorize the theme song in German and English. Also, another song from the movie I can heart! I can not even many dialogues by heart. I have shown good knowledge of unicorns and knows what kind wid Unicorn: It is a Greek Unicorn. be seen particularly in the lion's tail, the deer hooves and the thin and pointed ears!
One of the very first animated movies i ever saw as a child. I remember being terrified by the Red Bull and the scene where Mommie Fortuna is killed by the harpy really scared me too.
Red Bull didn't scare me but Mommy Fortuna did and so did King Haggard even with his face, Christopher Lee was awesome as Haggard and Jeff Bridges was also in Tron the same year. 1982 was a great year for Sci-fi/fantasy such as Blade Runner, this, E.T., The Thing, Dark Crystal, Secret of NIMH, Flight of Dragons, Tron, and Star Trek 2. Did you also thought Amalthea was smokin' hot too just like those other girls i mentioned?
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, i thought King Haggard was pretty creepy too. 1982 was my favorite year for sci-fi, fantasy and horror movies back in the 80's. Poltergeist, Halloween 3 and Creepshow also all came out that year. Lady Amalthea was pretty damn fine, i must say.
@slave2moonlight I loved everything about the 80's. It was such a fun, wild, wacky and weird decade to be a child in. I honestly wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
@TheAltair4 I doubt there is much I would trade it for either. It certainly was a great time to be a child. Possibly the best! Though some things I didn't dig. Mostly the styles/fashions females had in that time. And SOME of the music was pretty bad, but still fun to revisit because it is so uniquely '80's.
Loved this since i was a kid in the 80's when my parents taped it off HBO, one of the best fantasy movies and animated movies ever. Who else thought Lady Amalthea was smoking hot for a toon? she's up there with the likes of Taarna from Heavy Metal, Teegra from Fire and Ice, Angel from Rock and Rule, and Rozzie from Hey Good Looking in the early 80's toon babes category.
What the HECK, man? You can tell the guy narrating the trailer cannot take the movie seriously at all. TLU deserves better. Such a great movie, yet no-one knows how to market it...
The man who wrote this is not being paid by the movie company and is in DESPERATE NEED OF HELP! The company even refused him when he offered to take less money just so he could have a little something to help his family out with his dying mother's hospital bills. PLEASE CALL AND WRITE!
this trailer fails! A good trailer makes you want to watch the movie. I love this movie and after this trailer, i feel like I have should be sorry for liking it.
Excuse me? The most impressive "voice talent" in the movie was and is Christopher Lee as Hagard - not only because he did a great job, but because he also was the voice of Hagard in the German (!) dub too.
I loved this movie as a kid. It remains up there in my top list. And this trailer does make it seem a little umm... sparkly. It really is a dark movie.
@sweetanimechick I disagree, I think this is one of the few cases where the movie and novel were equally awesome, since the author worked with the movie a lot, IIRC.
This trailer makes the movie look a lot less dark than it is. I loved the movie when I was younger (and still do), but it's definitely not the Disney fluff it's portrayed as here.
the man in vo on this commercial isnt doing a very good job - you need a more authoratative voice to grasp people's attention. he sounds bored, as if he's reading the lines rather than selling us a product effectively.
I know the DVD is censored, but I'd still like to get the anniversary edition. The main reason is that while VHS tapes have tricky lifespans, my 20 year-old tape STILL has better video quality than the regular DVD edition. XD
they DID beep out "damn" in the DVD - which totally destroys that really emotional scene wherein Molly sees (and yells at) the Unicorn for the first time. Totally anticlimactic when you lose a word in the middle of her rising emotional state.
Because they didn't change the ratings since this movie is already 25 years old... but there are some things that would be considered "adult situations" and/or "sexual content" with the new rating system we have now.
@Okinsei I have no idea how it got a G rating, as there's quite a bit of swearing (though most of it is censored in the DVDs), as well as some "nudity," sorta. It's not with a human, but there's a harpy that has its breasts exposed.
NOTE TO ALL LAST UNICORN FANS. If you are going to buy this new DVD, get it online from Conlan Press. Right now Peter S. Beagle, author of the novel and the screenplay, gets nothing at all if you buy it somewhere else..

AnnieLives 1 year ago
@AnnieLives The Last Unicorn was made back in the 80's when most..notice I said MOST.. animations still received a G rating.
Now in days it seems the lowest rating an animation can get is PG of not PG-13.
I do remember seeing and liking this movie as a child though, kinda miss it now that they don't make ones like The Last Unicorn anymore.
