  • Shakespeare and Alexander = Win

  • My favourite scene :-)

  • My fave scene from my fave Hamlet.

  • wow

  • Kenneth Branagh is Jesus.

  • Ken Dodd is dead?

  • It's a fair bet Shakespeare was heavily steeped in Catholic traditions. Traditional Catholics focus on death and preparation for it but in the Reformation's new Protestantism, prayers for the dead were banned and 'death' as a transition was changed in perspective, causing much complex reflection in many of Shakespeare's audience.

  • Alas poor, Yorick. I knew him

    ... in America!

  • is this billy crystal??

  • @eunicejeruthlin yup. Also present in this movie were people like robin williams, kate winslet...

  • Thumbs up if L.A. Noir brought you here!

  • I love how the skull gets a POV shot.

  • Although I enjoyed Henry V and some of Branaugh's other Shakespearean forays, I prefer Mel Gibson's Hamlet way more than KB's. There's something more...genuine and heartfelt about his performance in that 1990 masterpiece. An oft-overlooked bit of thespian magic, there...

  • Search Shakespeare in the Kitchen-14 characters in 14 weeks

  • How do you souls view this and not contemplate upon the fate Yorick tasted and you will soon drink from the same cup?

  • Gotta love the background music

  • I love the way Hamlet chucks the skull back to the Gravedigger at the end!

  • I love the way Hamlet chucks the skull back to the Gravedigger at the end!

  • cole phelps brought me here o.o

  • @spongebobmusics1 LOL! I though I was the only one who wanted to meet poor Yorick!

  • anyone know where I can watch Brannaghs film version free online theres no full english one on you tube

  • i did like this version, but i must admit that some of the casting was distracting.

  • One of my fav scenes.

  • Bad. Ass.

  • Kenneth Brannagh is the BEST Hamlet I've ever seen!!!!

  • Ken Dodd is Yorick!!

  • can I view the entire movie?

  • why the hell is the next video how to bleach hair?!?!?!?!?!

  • @ilikeblondie Well, take a look at Hamlet :p

  • Is it me or does young hamlet look a lil overweight?

  • @joshonator12 If you dad got killed by your loser uncle and got visited by his ghost, I'm sure the stress would put on a few pounds lol.

  • @Agent1W

I'm talking about the little blonde boy (child hamlet) who is jumping on yorick's lap.

  • @joshonator12 My bad lol.

  • @Agent1W lul.

  • Ken Dodd and the diddymen from Notty Ash. I knew him Horatio.

  • LOLZ!

    the gravediggers XD!!

  • now get you up to my lady's chamber and tell her that her paint an inch thick to this favor she must come

    my favorite line

  • just wanna say that I really like Billy Crystal's performance as the gravedigger. He seems funny, intelligent, and also the only healthy person on scene--so he associates most with us. His personality radiates warmth and wit.

  • Billy Crystal was the most surprising of the great performances in the film. His performance as the grave digger was one of the most memorable parts of this epic film.

  • I really like how Branagh plays this scene. You can tell that Hamlet appreciates a skilled jouster, one of the few around sharp enough to spar with him.

  • Pop quiz: how old is hamlet?

  • @2Lazy4aRealName

Hamlet was written sometime between 1599 and 1601.

  • @2Lazy4aRealName this scene makes it really hard to tell because they said yorick has been dead and in the ground for 23 years and hamlet was probably about 6 when he died maybe older or younger.

  • @firemonkey16 Let's go 30 cause that's what Branaugh is around when this was made.

  • @baseball1949 he was more like 40...

  • @brainwasher9876 meh he's looked 40 for like 25 years now

  • @2Lazy4aRealName He's 30

  • @2Lazy4aRealName

There are two versions of Hamlet one which states that Yorick had been in the ground for three and twenty years and that Hamlet was seven when he died, making him thirty. Yet this seems to contrast with the rest of the play which describe Hamlet as young and hence Ophelia should be wary of his attention. Thus I prefer the other version of Hamlet where Yorick is describe as being buried for a dozen year; making Hamlet nineteen.

  • when shakespeare goes cinematic it is when it is no longer shakespeare

  • 0.0 o my god i love this version its horrable and hire completly bad choices of actors in parts i love the guy who plays the grave digger

  • @BlameRepublicans Drop dead you ugly phony racist,i bet you can't take a black dick you loathsome cockroach.die

  • Great acting!! I love the clothing of this period so much, i wish there were shops i could buy stuff like this in..

  • 3:03 onwards is goose-bump giving

  • @Williyf ha i got goose-bumps too

  • awesome

  • this is fantastic!! How come I have never seen this version!!?? Ugh! I must find it

  • @eddieharr 1996 version of Hamlet starring Kenneth Branagh.

  • When they showed the flashback with Yurik, I never wanted to see this scene again. Nightmares I tell you!!

  • how did branagh not win the oscar for this

  • @caustic77755 I agree!! This is one of the best if not THE BEST Hamlets ever done.

  • @caustic77755 1996's Best Actor Oscar went to Geoffrey Rush for Shine, that'd be pretty hard to beat if you ask me.

  • @caustic77755 idiocy on the part of the academy.

  • @caustic77755 For the Same Reason Shakespeare didn't win a screenplay writing Oscar for this. Take what course thou wilt.

  • One of the greatest parts Shakespeare has ever written

  • My favorite scene from Hamlet, we will just fill a wall in death if not for our future with Jehovah!

  • Hamlet, Act V, Scene i .. like it!

  • Billy Crystal ruins this scene.

  • @KellyGreen5555 He's fine.

  • I think this scene, Gertrude's announcing of Ophelia's death and Hamlet's resignation that "There's a special providence in the fall of a sparrow" are three truly amazing scenes.

  • by the way, tediousoldfools, a friend of mine told me that if you don't say "i do not own this and all rights go to ____" on your vid description WMG may possibly delete this vid. Maybe you should put that on, just in case?

  • Thanks brainwasher9876, but I did read on the help forums about someone who did that on their videos, but they were deleted anyway. I think it's just a matter of luck and time. I'm always surprised when I sign into my channel to find it's still here !!! .;o)

  • @tediousoldfools I think if anything Ken Branagh should be happy with this channel as it celebrates all of his wonderful work and means to take nothing away from him business wise.

  • @maj1986 Thanks maj1986 , but I hope he never sees what I've done to some of his Shakespearean films. lol

  • @tediousoldfools im doing all of this in my english class

  • I think the most brilliant physical act here is that Hamlet throws the skull to the gravedigger with little to no reverence, showing his belief that skulls and remains are little more than earth, unworthy of care even if it belonged to his childhood playmate.

  • I think it's infinite. But I'll help contribute. By the way, thanks so much for uploading this. I've always wanted to see it but WMG or someone took it off. Also you uploaded this on my birthday and that's just too cool :P

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!

  • PERFECT

  • This is one of the best.

  • I knew you were a pole smoker.

You are VERY unpopular no matter where you go, eh, komrade?

What a shitty life you must have,

  • alas, poor yorick. i knew him...IN AMERICA!!

    lol!!!

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I missed this scene so much. THANK YOU!!!
