  • Pretty bad sound here buddy. Is it possible to plant from seed? (Ireland)

  • The only time he may have had the thing full of soil is when it was hanging. If you fill it full with soil while trying to hold it, its going to get heavy fast. Put your hanger up first, put the plant in, hang it and then fill with soil. This will make your life much easyer and keep you from crushing your plant.

  • "hmrfmlfmmmmmmfrmsmmphmmmm" - guy in video

  • I bought two of these and two tomato plants. I got a total of 6 tomatoes. I don't know what I did wrong, but I was sadly disappointed that my plants did not fill out at all or look nearly as lush as what you see on t.v. I used a good potting soil, and watered every other day, but they never got full; just one spindly stalk on each. What was it they said.....don't mess with mother nature?! Gosh darn, and I love tomatoes too!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude those things are great. They help grow weed ten times faster. Try it. My friend did and it works.

  • Wait I wrote this three days ago? What? I don't remember that! I thought it was like a week ago! I didn't even go to bed last night.

  • hey gardeners.. I am a new vegetable grower myself .. i have a great little tip for u guys . my tomatoe plants got long really fast..... theyl get so long theyll touch the ground if there not realy high up... and i had a tomatoe plant in the side and it flopped over from the weight... so i gently tied them to that chains on the top... all topsy tuirvys have the same 3 chain design.. u can just gently make a loop around the thickest stalk of the plant. and tie it up..keep it a loose knot

  • Don't bother with this. You'll be watering 2 or 3 times a day, so don't plan on going anywhere for the weekend. It'll only last 1 season. Then you'll need to find a way to hold the thing up, and when it's wet it weighs 50 pounds. If you insist that you're going to try it, save yourself some money, and make one using a 5 gallon plastic bucket. Just cut a hole in the bottom, get a sponge, and you're good to go. I don't recommend it, though. Just grow things as nature intended.

  • A 2x4 that's a 1/4" thick? I would assume that a 2x4 would be either 2" or 4" thick depending on how you screw into it.

  • i have had two and they both came with diffrent lids this is a rip off.

  • I'm having a problem with my plants in my topsy tuvey, I planted tomatoes & cucumbers... the plants have grown.. but they don't look so good they are yellowish and brown, I used a really good top soil when I planted them and I water them often.. they are hanging on my porch so they get planty of sunlight... I'm not sure what to do with them to get them greener, do you have any ideas?? I read someones statement saying the white spongy part at the bottem can cause the plant to strangle itself.

  • @naughtyglamz I am getting awesome results after only 3 weeks. You should be fertilizing it once a week. Use Miracle Grow tomato fertilizer. As the plants get closer to flowering, fertilize it every 2-3 days.

  • @CLaneWilson Thank you, we actually bought some miricle grow plant food for it about a few weeks ago... and its gotten major progess now they are growing and getting so big and much healther! I can't wait for it to get bigger and bigger :-)

  • @naughtyglamz Awesome! Compared to what I am growing in the ground, the TopsyTurvy is amazing! Good luck!

  • @naughtyglamz it sounds like you started with bad plants.watch where u buy from

  • terrible sound!

  • What a rip off. I bought one last year and it fell apart.

  • Don't use those hooks given with planter kit. Go to dollar store or anywhere. Look for those heavy dutie hooks that curves at both ends made of steel. I got three and paid $1.00 each. Hang the plant on something sturdy. Your plant will never fall!

  • I would like to see a real video or photo of a topsy turvy plant that looks as good or almost as good as tv. I have a green thumb and got lousy tomatoes. All the others I saw got nothing. I babied the plant. Bought plant vitamins. You name it I did it. What I found is that the container restrict root growth. There is no way to have large juicy tomatoes with the roots not able to spread and grow. Try something small like cherry tomatoes. For now it is a rip off. It does not do what it says.

  • Check out my video.....

    Topsy-Turvy tomato dog.

The plant grew to 8 feet long....had to prop broom stix in the air to keep them growing! First time using the Topsy-Turvey and can't wait until next year to do more because this year was better than we could have expected.

  • on the instructions it said water every 4 weeks. on the third week, it died!!

  • Bobe, you must realize that something is wrong with your plant. Be observer not just a follower of any instruction. :D Anyway, cheer up, try it again!

  • RIP OFF!!!

  • ... OR... you could just use a bucket with a few holes in the bottom. People have been growing tomatoes like this for years.

    Fucking idiots...

  • i know. thats a waste

  • Hey (in a hurry) you didint mention where you were< If your are in Usa and dont live in tropical-subtropical it may be getting to late to plant. From a seedling you nead at least 3 months! Here in Southern Australia it is just time to plant now.

  • I am thinking of doing a biology project on this! how long does a tomato plant take to grow?

  • Depends on the variety, but most start producing tomatoes after 50-70 days.

  • it didn't work at all for me. bad design. It's always wet and that means rot.

  • What kind of soil are you filling it with? Soils that drain well (like coir mixed with finished compost) are the best for this and potted plants in general.

  • you can actually make your own, TOPSY TURVY SUCKS AND THEY DON'T REIMBURSE YOU BACK!

  • Why do you say that? Are you sure you paid attention to the instructions? Did you use the correct fertilizer? How far did you get with it? Are you referring to the single planter? I have the TT that plants 6 per planter. Don't give up, consider it a challenge! You didn't mention why you thought it sucked, so I really can't help you..

  • This would be useful if we could hear it. What in the heck is wrong with the sound? Why is it so horrible? Sounds like the microphone is up your butt.

  • Sorry, the microphone was a POS. I got a new one shortly after filming this.

  • Thanks for creating this video. It made the assembly easy.

  • I have one, and it works wonderfully! My daughter waters it, but I don't have to worry about her over-watering it, because you can't! It's amazing! The tomatoes are getting HUGE and delicious, I highly recommend it to everyone.

  • I am thinking of doing a biology project on this! how long does a tomato plant take to grow?

  • I want to see a picture of this Bad Ass Plant experience!

  • Yeah theese are fail... I did my own exsperiment with theese and a regular bucket.. the hanging plant is small and puny,,,, a regular bucket and some chicken wire...

  • I know how to make one with 5 gallon bucket but works better

  • i have the big one...with three holes. they are growing up and not downwards. should i take the soil out and point them downwards. they have already doubled in a week. i would appreciate a response.

  • As they continue to get bigger, gravity will bring them back down on their own. You should not try to point them in a different direction.

  • thanx! the last one dropped last weekend...they all look good and i have tons of maters and flowers popping up! so happy I tried this!

  • this thing sux!

    pac-man ate both my plants

  • BIGGEST CROCK OF SHIT SINCE OJ

  • I agree it is a piece of shit!!!!!!! I followed the directions and have gone through two plantings.

  • crap... the roots will curve and grow downward... you will have puny tomatos.

  • realberserker,

My tomatoes are reaching for the sky. Won't this eventually break the stem when they get larger?

  • Thank you so much, realberserker. We don't live in a hot climate (Maine) but I think I'd rather be safe than sorry and use the shredded newspaper as well. I've read the most common issue with the planter is they dry out quickly. I'll still water it daily in addition to the newspaper. Thanks again!! :-)

  • Lol use a bucket its free.

  • Hi. Can you tell me how much soil needs to be put in the Topsy Turvy? I couldn't tell how full you got it. Thanks!

  • Sweetpeahiker> it takes about 6 gallons (1414 cubic inches). You don't have to fill it all the way though - I've had some luck filling it with about 5 gallons of soil and putting a gallon of shredded leaves or newspaper on top. That helps hold extra moisture if you're in a really hot climate (like here in Texas)

  • "You want to find a 2x4 that's at least a quarter-inch thick." If it's a quarter-inch thick, it's not a 2x4 is it!?!

  • ahahah im soo getting this it looks like a good product.... un like The Snuggie, Sham Wow, all those tacky comershals

  • Use a five gallon bucket, drill a 2 inch hole in the bottom useing a hole saw and use a coffee filter to fill in the hole in place of the sponge. This project can be done for about 3 dollars plus the cost of the plant you choose to use.

  • DOSE IT REALY WORK?

  • Yes. We produced tomatoes with this well into October last year. It also works with other plants like bell peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, and other vines.

  • Isn't it cheaper to get a bucket, punch a hole at the botton, put a small piece of foam and have the same results for 1/10 of the price?

  • nyguy> You could do that, but most buckets are not made from UV treated plastic and they can be difficult to hang. The flexible sides of this design are also a bit gentler on roots and that seems to boost fruit/vegetable production.

  • You mention to use some type of compost and stay away from another type of compost. What is the correct type of compost I should look for? The audio was so terrible it's hard to understand some word you say. This should be corrected, otherwise your video was very helpful compared to others. Thanks for your demonstration.

  • I'd recommend using a blend of compost from different sources (horse/cow/lawn clippings) for a good balance of nutrients. We've had the best results using organic fertilizers instead of chemically treated soil.

Sorry about the audio - we're going to reshoot this video soon now that we have a better microphone.

  • That is soo cool

  • Fix the sound. Now, I don't want to buy this product, Uhhhgg!

  • Sorry about the audio - our wireless mike was pretty lousy and we got a new one recently.

  • The sound on your video sucks

  • Audio was extremely fuzzy which made the video very poor. If you are in business then produce a quality video!

  • I'm woundering yah sure they do say you can grow all sorts of vegetable plants in the topsy turvy but what about being able to grow a marijuana plant inside of it?

When I saw this video and watched it I don't know why but that question just sort of popped up in my head lol.

Would really like to know though.

  • Comment removed

  • The Topsy Turvy will grow a variety of plants, but it's best suited for vegetables that grow on vines.

  • You probably have better luck than growing a damn tomato....lol!

  • Yes, fill it all the way to the top, it will settle with a few waterings

  • Do you fill it all the way up with soil? He didn't say and it doesn't look like he did.
