Have you tried ubuntu? I'm a vista user for the games, but installing ubuntu for people has always been a lovely experience. Never had to install any drivers or fiddle with network settings... wireless works on a fresh install.

No and I shouldn't have to try 10 different distros to find one that supports my wifi card. Especially when I can pick pretty much any version of windows and it works no questions asked.
Same story with sound cards, video cards, and on and on and on.
No matter how many distros you try when your a moron you'll never get anything done and you'll stay with the MS BlueScreenOfDeath OS or the MS BrainDead OS have a nice. For all the thinking ppl out there check the supported hardware list its posted on every distro's web site.

Let's see, on one hand I have an OS that doesn't work at all. On the other I have an OS that works for every piece of hardware worth caring about and doesn't crash. You might be thinking of win 95 with the bluescreen comment.
As for supported hardware lists, windows doesnt need one. Every piece of hardware worth my time works with windows.
and with linux too. you re basing your comment on an outdated opinion. download and test (live cd) the newest version of ubuntu and see it for yourself.
Every piece of hardware worth *my* time works with Linux. A MacOSX fan will claim (despite OSX's poor hardware support) that it supports all the hardware worth *their* time. This is a silly argument; Linux has better hardware support than WIndows overall, when you consider hardware that has XP but not Vista driver, Vista but not XP driver, only 98 or 2000 drivers, etc etc.
Why should I bitch and moan and bitch some more when I have a perfectly good WORKING solution available to me?
This is why lunix fails, I shouldn't have to beg for a feature to be supported. I shouldn't have to bitch out my manufacturer of anything when they already deliver a working product.
Well, yes, why ARE you bitching and moaning? This is an excellent quesiton. And, as for the second nonsensical part of your comment, I wouldn't bitch out a manufacturer when they already deliver a working product either. But I will if they don't.. If you bought something and found it didn't have drivers for (windows of your choice) you would bitch. So I will too if they don't provide a driver for my OS of choice, or specs so someone can write it for them.
No questions asked? Windows doesn't have ANY wifi drivers out of the box as far as I know. XP is too old to have drivers for most video, sound, or network devices I've come across -- and Vista will declare these same devices obsolete and so ALSO not include drivers for them. Argh! You may or may not get the stuff to work, but you're deluding yourself if you think it's some seamless "oh it worked out of the box!" type experience.
The "it worked out of the box!" situation hwertz describes is the ideal one for me. I'd rather not have to rely on an install cd (especially because I frequently format my own computer, and have to repair other people's computers, and the cd's are usually nowhere to be found.) I think both vista and ubuntu are fairly good in this regard. But XP? Not a chance. Of course someone not in my situation may not care about this, but it definitely influences what I use.

take it up with your wifi card manufacturer, linux users have nothing to do with them.

What's your idea of hardware worth your time? A UART from 1987? A 3 year old nvidia card?
And it my shit does work out of the box. Drivers are shipped with the hardware. No hunting around some poorly written website looking for drivers.
I'm bitching and moaning because you morons think lunix is anything better then a toy. Newsflash: It's not.
corkhead0 2 years ago
perhaps you should look and see what operating system is behind most websites (its not windows)

Oooooh way to go. Some loser in his moms basement runs the default install of apache on his lunix box. How is this relevant to the desktop?
corkhead0 2 years ago
do some prodding with nmap's OS finger printing then come back
monkapotomus 2 years ago
How about you do it. You are the one claiming to have some proof of superiority. Do your own damn research for your own claims.
