  • SLAPPA DA BASS MAN!

  • can you explain how you achieve your tone? It sounds great. It is the way i would like my bass to sound when i slap and pop.

  • @sgtpaddy his bass probably has that tone already. also its all in the wrist.

  • is this a lesson or a demonstration?

  • got it! i can go up to 1:20 with his rhythm then he gets u8er fast and i can't catch up. but thanks op. tis is a great vid

  • Just found this lesson and it's awesome. I'm gunna work on this a bit and see what else you have for me.

  • muito show

  • I think this is the best video for poeple who wants to start slapping. Before I didn't even know where those sounds came from.Thank you!

  • great lesson, thank you.

  • I love to use this exercise to warm up with.

  • The camera angle is perfect and your videos are awesome, thank you very much

  • @prkboys You cant get easiar than this without speaking. You need to take the time and use your ears, eyes and pause buttons. DO THE MATH.

  • That is quite difficult for a beginner I must say. I've been playing bass for a few years now but never thought I'd really wanna play slap 'n' pop stuff until a very recent affinity for Primus made me feel otherwise. I think the changing from E to A is tricky enough let alone popping the the G and D if you know what I mean. I think to start I just want a simple low E slapping and G for popping only till I get comfy with it. Plus my thumb needs toughening up.

  • had a long layoff, but came back to this lesson to get back into the swing of things!..THanks.!

  • Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just learn it for 5 minutes and I could do it fast but not fast as you did at the beginning of the video

    It's good for beginners. thanks

  • Hard to comprehend for beginner -_-

  • @Zh0rik If it were that easy, everyone would be bass gods.

  • I want to try this on my electric... But I'm too scared of the strings snapping... ><

  • This is definitely gonna take some practise but really enjoying it so far, thanks.

  • if u made tabs i could pick this up, its hard to learn to slap by watching u do it

  • WHERE CAN I GET TABS FOR SLAPPING?

  • 5/5 stars :) Gonna try to learn this asap! :D

  • mierda

  • great tutorial. thanks!

  • VERY good tutorial. You slowed it down perfectly to show what you did. I am learning from this and thank you!! Bravo!!

  • OMG!!! ... I'm actually gettin this!!! ... *LOL*

  • i want to learn how to play like that

  • me too

  • is it 1, 2 or 3 hits on the a to b?

  • It's 2, where the second is a hammer on to b

  • Okey this is too difficult for a beginner like me to do this fast, haha. One question though: do I see correctly that you mute the e string with your thumb after slapping it?

  • Yes I use my thumb to mute the E string

  • You are the man, this is a great help for me! I finally know how to play the line, its fun to play I can't wait to play the second video

  • Class!

  • Your D string was out of tune in this vid

  • hey, are you using some king of effect?

  • in my opinion bass is better than lead

  • ur so cool

  • are you flea?

  • this is way to good for beginners haha im playing at an intermediate to advanced level and this is damn hard

    you rock man hahha

if this is beginner for you

i wanna see something you call advanced

    cos you kick ass

  • That's gonna take some practice

  • you rock man

  • very good

  • sir what is the setting of your px4d is it possible on px5d

  • Very nice video, better than every "spoken lesson", you know.

    Thanks

  • that's bad ass

  • just started to learn slap, really helped out. thanks!

  • nice bass

  • ok, i have 2 days practicing this, months playing bass, i only need to manage your speed and 3rd string precision on the slapping, thats all ^^

  • wow.,. my fingers hurt, great vid man, i hope u have those tabs soon :D

but this is not that easy, neither TOO hard

  • You are a very good teacher!!!

  • Very Thanks :D Help me a lot

  • It's because of this video,I'm getting better at the slap technique thanks alot man

  • Thank you very much. All the stuff I post are my own compositions.

  • hi could you tab this please? if you could would you send it to me

  • I will provide tabs for my lessons in the near future. Stay tuned.

  • Tight!

  • Much better than most lessons. My problem is the the rhythm, I always get lost there.

Ive been playing bass for a while and have normal playing down, but slapping is just hard minus a few lines I have been playing for years, newer lines just dont come so easily to me.

Any tipsf or grabbing the rhythms?

  • Thank you. I do think that the rhytmic aspect is one of the most difficult part of playing slap bass. Therefore I almost always practice with a metronome or some drum pattern. And most of the times I construct a slap bass line it is while playing to a drum pattern.

  • thanx

  • AT LAST!! Too many bass players just want to show off and not show you much. Finaly there's someone who is a great bass player who has the intelligence to be able to teach! Many thanks ThadewGrum!

  • Thanks and you're welcome

  • thanx =) ur a really good teacher

  • This is very helpful, thanks.

  • can you do video about that how you hit thumb

  • I will consider doing a video on that. Stay tuned.

  • kra estou estudando todas as suas videos aulas, very good, parabéns...

  • Great teacher :D

  • Thanks man. Glad to help :-)

  • wow ur really good. i learned it slowly from ur vid. nice 1

  • can you do a tab for this??

  • I don't do tabs. Sorry.

  • for me it IS a lesson, thanks a lot!

  • You're welcome!

  • its more just teaching you a nice lick to play around with, not on slap bass technique. still nice playing

  • I just posted a couple vids on tech if you're looking.

  • Really good lesson! Gave me a lot! Hope to see more from you soon! Greetings, mate!

    ***** 5 Stars!

  • Thanks :-)

  • thats not a lesson! nice playing though

  • Thanks. If you're not a bass player then it's not a lesson for you :-) But for those who play bass and knows a little about slap bass and actually have learned something from this, it is a lesson. Judging by some of the comments, somebody has learned from this.

  • Doesn't need to be a vocal explanation for a lesson. Many people learn via aural and optical observation.

  • Well spoken :-)

  • It seems all he's doing is just playing, no real lesson, unless I'm just being impatient, he he.

  • thanks for your help

  • Okay thank you. Awesome job on those lessons by the way!

  • Thank you.

  • How long have you been a bassist for?

  • I played for 8 years in the 90's followed by a 12 years break from playing bass. I started to play again earlier this year.

  • How do you figure out those slap riffs? Everytime i'm improvising with my slap technique it always sounds like some of flea's slap riffs.

  • The slap riffs are coming when I practice. Sometimes I play something that sounds like a potential riff, and from there I try to build it and construct it, until I like what I hear. Sometimes a riff is made in 1 hour, and other times it will take weeks before it's done :-)

  • what pedal effects you are using?

  • I'm only using compression from the Korg Pandora PX4D.

  • tnx,,

  • which finger are you using for the plucking!!!!!

  • I always use my index finger for plucking the D string and middle finger for plucking the G string. This also make double plucking and double stops more natural for me.

  • great EQ ,,

sounds daine jaw us ,, lol

  • wow that was really good, ive been playing for like 4 years but i've never played slap, your vids are being a big help, thanks :D

  • Thanks!

  • i love the stingray. i have one as well and love it! do you use compression at all because your slap tone sounds alot richer than mine.

  • I use the compression from the Korg Pandora PX4D that I'm using to record my videos.

  • Nice vid.

  • thank you

  • You're welcome

  • love that riff

  • Thanks :-)
