Can someone please explain me in simple words what is that album-oriented rock (AOR)? I've read the whole article about it but still don't get it... How to destinguish it from others? What are the main features and criterions of this type of rock? It sounds to me like all the other 80's great music...

@KingCrimsonThunder AOR is a 1980's term coined by record companies to explain a more radio friendly,softer, pop oriented rock sound. 99.9% of the hair metal bands signed after 1983 had to be more "soft" to get MTV play and radio play. Therefore many bands changed their look and sound to be not only more pop, but more commercially succesful.

@MorganDRHudson This is the best explanation I've ever heard. Wikipedia, etc. gives so confusing information that I became even more mixed up. There a lot of info about AOR being "created" in 1960s and combining broader types of music but those explanations are too complicated. I was particularly interested in this type of "soft" rock and why it is called AOR. I am a huge rock fan for almost 20 years but this classification (AOR) always confused me. Now I know the main concept. Thank You!

The style appeared in the late 70s, influenced by pomp-rock bands and ex-progressive rock players wanting to a play a more simplistic music while still keeping the musical integrity and production quality within their music. AOR was hugely popular between '81-'84 and its name comes from the fact that in US certain FM radios played a certain type of rock music and the music they played called radio-oriented called which then become aor in time.

@KingCrimsonThunder on the musical level its influenced by pomp-rock. its highly melodic often with catchy choruses, harmonic vocals, lots of keyboards and melodic guitar solos. its different from prog bcs aor is more radio-friendly, song arrangements are not as complex as prog songs, and usually aor songs last about 4-5 minutes(rather than long songs of prog bands)aor lyrics usually deal with love,passion,hope etc. Think about Asia, Toto,Journey,Foreigner and you get the picture :))

This track is included in their debut cd "State of The Rock" released in 1994, you can find it on ebay for about 12$, I would suggest the Japanese Version though that includes 2 excellent bonus tracks
