  • Wow, i could do with being that smooth at 78. I hope he's still able to move without too much assistance at 105 (but unfortunately unlikely - taiji isn't magic but it's wonderful all the same). :)

  • Master Wu is NOW 105, so at the time of this demo, he would've been 78 years old here. Do a little math, be as accurate in life as you are during Tai Chi. That being said, I hope my practice keeps me moving as well at that advanced age.

  • Muten Roshi!

  • I have been a massage therapist for 10 years and I lived in Taiwan for 3 1/2 years and when you comprehend what he is doing with this intent has the most to do with his longevity and health. Some of the people that do T'ai Chi today do not fully understand the meanings behind it.

  • Wu Tunan would have thrown you into the tree if you got cheeky with him

  • i want to live up to 105 too

  • I bet he could beat your ass playing some ping pong. Just kidding this is really cool.

  • Super

  • He looks a lot less fluid than guys you see doing tai chi today. Although he looks old, he looks also like only an intermediate and maybe suffering form arthritis.

  • @shawandrew TWAT!

  • the higher the level, the smaller is the body movement!

    a true master!

  • if you ever push hand with a tai chi master it would blow your mind away, even with full body contact i could not feel his presence. Every time i pushed into him it was like push into thin air. in regards to a tai chi master in their 70's fighting a ufc fighter, remember tai chi is not about the size and strength but the ability of the mind to sense and react without thinking and using the enemies energy against themselves.

  • in USA men his age would walk with a CANE.

  • @PreludeSi91 that's true

  • Actually I went to China and it's well know there that this footage depicts him at the age of 84. Still very much impressive! But he passed away at the age of 87 just 3 years after this was filmed, so he can't be 100.

  • He was born in 1884 and died in 1989, meaning he was 105 when he passed away. Now thats a well-known fact, soi think you must have mistaken him for some one else.

  • whats the song?

  • his state of being is phenomenal. most people his age are in a wheel chair let alone not able to move as he does.

i know men in their 20s who cant even move like he can.

as for his power, even though they say that with every generation that the style has been passed down power compared to the original is lost, i'm pretty sure he can take on ufc fighters.

  • Let's not kid ourselves. Any ufc fighter would take that guy out easily.

However, lets see any of those UFC fighters stand a chance in their old age against this guy at 100.

  • haha, obiously he's gonna win, without the doubt.

  • bingo. win battle, lose war... lol

  • I had to remind myself I was watching a 100 year old man.

  • at the advanced stage, taiji ischaracterized by small outward moves but great internal powers

  • I do Yang style and it's radically different from the way he does it. can anyone tell me his lineage?

  • Master Wu was a student of Wu Jianquan, the founder of Wu style tai chi, but he also studied with Yang Shaohou. I suspect his mature style reflected a lifetime of research and was no longer purely Wu or Yang style.

  • It almost seemed as if he was holding back. I bet that old gentleman has power we can't even conceive in our minds.

  • Hey, show some respect! He's 100 years old. His tai chi is fluid and balanced.

  • I think its the difference in Styles and methodologies. The Wu and Yang dont stress of over bending as in the Chen style. If you understand rooting then you we find out that slightly bending the knee in a erect state creates the deepest root. The reason being the gravitational pull of the bodies mass into a single local under the foot.

    Peace

  • The issue of "over bending the knee" would entirely depend on the Chen style Taijiquan lineage that you are referring to. In the Hong Junsheng lineage (lineage of one of Chen Fake´s 1st disciples), we dont ever bend the knees beyond the toes, and one knee must point up while the other points down.

  • haha.... your skills still needa bend knees :) his ones dun neven need to touch you.. who's stronger...

  • This is so cool.

I hope to grow old that beautifully.
