I've always liked Ukenagashi, not many Aikido schools use it but I believe you need it as a major tesabaki.Especially if you want to be able to use it in real situations, considering constant forward motion, chain attacks until broken(i.e. you are open for the second attack even with atemi because of the offensive mindset and forward pressure)unless you stop the momentum with a heavy handed strike and even then you may get clipped,I tend to stam the shoulder with my Tegatana, seems to work well also
at 0:25 your point about being open for a secondary attack is not entirely correct. the correct way of doing yokmenuchi ikkyo is for the other hand to be striking the uke's head when you enter or step off the line, ie: atemi is very important in aikido.
Gary i wnt to join ur classes! Ur an awsome instructor!! Steven seagal is the aikido master i dnt think anyone should dought him for a second! He as over 40 years of aikido trainingn studying. It dnt matter how fat he gets! Hell still b fast as fuck!!!
@jgutie06 I seen Steven Seagal 10 years ago at a demonstration preform this very same move. I kid you not when i say he is very fast and very for real.
This is awsome!! Shihan Seagal has one of the fastest Ukenagashi, and this one is indeed avery real one. too bad we lost Seagal by now with his lack of training.
Sweet! I like that! Great way to get to the dead angle and keep the attacker off balance while practically camping out, going for an all day hike, and going fishing, and STILL staying in a good tactical position. Man, you're on top of him forever and always in a superior position. That's too smooth. As always, you move like water. One of these decades I may move like that. Maybe. Thanks again Sensei.
I see people recognize the similarity between this deflection technique and Bang Sao in Wing Tsun. However, if you train in Wing Tsun you will notice that the details are different, although the idea is similar. These differences make the technique in this vid more tailored for attacks from sideways, but the one in Wing Tsun is more about deflecting straight punches.
Aikido is not only physical, it`s much about how to come not even into a situation of fight.
Aikido is net i have the technique and BOoM BOOM BOOM kill them all, it`s about, you know your techniques, (which are very dangerous, of course) and use them only when there is no other way. If you have understand this, in everything you do and show this you understand Aikido. If you want to hurt People do Kickboxing or Boxing, but not Aikido.
I must say once more....I really enjoy these videos and the way that techniques are taught. Fluid, practical, more reality based, sincere. 5 stars for sure!!! Keep up the great work and God bless!
Ooo yay! He brought up the idea of a second strike following the first! I have been wanting to see a video that didn't assume the attacker was drunk/retarded.
you are a freakin ridiculous teacher. 5 stars many of your techniques are taught in kung fu. And the rest are aikido i guess............................ nice work. The uko nagashi is also called a bong sao! it is really effective especially when applied with arm lock wich i never even thought of! thanks heaps makes u think outside the square doesnt it
That is my whole aim: teaching people to think outside of the box. I will admit that even saying that, I'm still guilty of remaining within those confines. I do what I can but I think we all have a tendency to sit back and rely on what is comfortable. Thanks for watching and posting.
no doubt , wing chun is prob the most effective and practical of the kung fu systems esp with combos/counters and the join manipulation techniques; also seen in shaolin chi' na which almost mirrors techniques seen in aikido. not too surprising even though paralleled by 2 different cultures, practical systems will have practical techniques, however one of the main lifeline's in aikido is total body movement and getting off the line of attack
That's not an egg head. You should see mine, mine's a real shiner :P He's just bald (or shaved, whatever).
And to you, daisetsu na sensei =D Nice vids. Many opportunities to strike back and be more creative. You could combine these basic/intermediate moves with any other kind of combat technique. Keep teachin'
well explained. You can see the opponent feeling what he is doing. This guy knows his stuff.

I think it could still be more practical, he could easily break the guys arm half way through the move instead of knocking him down.

Gotta compliment this vid again, this is the most explanatory aikido vid I've seen so far.
Tired of seeing random black belt [Inset name here] throwing tons of random kids around that aren't even trying to hit him.
