...it seems to me that the show has no problems misconstruing facts to make the show more interesting. He wasn't distilling, he was simply brewing, completely legal in Washington State (and Pierce County) in 1992.

Not every "official" understands what homebrewing is. This is simply another example of a homebrewer getting busted for "marijuana" plants that were really hops & a "still" that was homebrewing equipment. We need to make sure law enforcement and legislators understand what homebrewing is.

All of that "distilling" equipment was beer making equipment. Home brewing is legal and has been nationwide since Jimmy Carter signed it into law in 1980-81.

The "pressure container" is a 5 gallon keg once used by soft drink distributors but not any longer. You can buy these by the score on Ebay these days.

And the only danger from messing up your beer recipe is a lot of bad beer.

The officer involved talking about killing people with bad homebrew? NO clue whatsoever what he was talking about or that he just arrested two people for pursuing a legal hobby.
