See - don't believe everything you see and hear - even COPS and cops can be wrong.
...it seems to me that the show has no problems misconstruing facts to make the show more interesting. He wasn't distilling, he was simply brewing, completely legal in Washington State (and Pierce County) in 1992.
Now for the brass knuckles and the pot ..those aren't so legal.
Not every "official" understands what homebrewing is. This is simply another example of a homebrewer getting busted for "marijuana" plants that were really hops & a "still" that was homebrewing equipment. We need to make sure law enforcement and legislators understand what homebrewing is.
concoction could blind or kill somebody? I can not believe this happened. I mean I can not believe they actually said the former, and then arrested him. A sad sad day in the annals of American history.
That was beer brewing stuff, there is nothing wrong with brewing beer or growing weed. Cigeretts kills more than weed will ever do so. FUK cops and the goverment visit you local anti goverment tea party comming up
@eedwards74 Right. It was an immersion chiller not a still. The one guy knew what he was talking about when he was talking about the mash tun, but the main guy is crazy talking about killing people from making beer.
hilarious... that home-schooled eagle scout of a cop actually called the man a criminal with no pricipals, obviously he has high principals when it comes to beer.
All of that "distilling" equipment was beer making equipment. Home brewing is legal and has been nationwide since Jimmy Carter signed it into law in 1980-81.
The "pressure container" is a 5 gallon keg once used by soft drink distributors but not any longer. You can buy these by the score on Ebay these days.
And the only danger from messing up your beer recipe is a lot of bad beer.
hilarious... that home-schooled eagle scout of a cop actually called the man a criminal with no pricipals, obviously he has high principals when it comes to beer.
My family homebrews mead as we have for centuries. Who are these bozos to say we have no principles just because we like to enjoy ourselves without paying taxes on our own labor? Who was hurt by this guy that would prompt the fuzz to show up? So far the only victim I see is the poor guy in handcuffs.
for years I have been intimidated living here in Georgia - so glad there are total idiots even out in the Pacific Northwest - guess the cops don't make it up to VanSterdam very often! Or know anything about brewing beer or making whiskey! They did instantly recognize that he wasn't a good person!
he was making moonshine not beer. BUT this really goes to show the cops in wa are desprate for any bust. AND HOW can you say that weed it bad? That something that god created was a mistake? BILL HICKS had it right.
He was NOT making moonshine Everything he had, except the maryjane, is legal, and you'll find it all in my home too... including the "stolen" corny kegs. Those cops were dumbasses acting tough on camera And I'm surprised that even aired. I'd love to see footage of the guy and his lawyer making them all look foolish.
Especially when they can't tell a moonshine operation from a homebrew BEER setup, never mind the fact that even straight moonshine(ethyl alcohol) won't blind anyone. It's the garbage like methanol, kerosene, antifreeze, etc that prohibition-era bootleggers cut their alcohol with that blinded people. Dumb cop(s) indeed.
Best part is the close up of The Joy of Homebrewing Book. Sucks to get a warrant for moonshining when you are just homebrewing, then when the cops come they find weed. Heh.
@iamjonsharp That shot of Charlie Papazian's Joy of Homebrewing was a classic. The "still' was homebrewing equipment and the "marijuana" was hops. The officer involved talking about killing people with bad homebrew? NO clue whatsoever what he was talking about or that he just arrested two people for pursuing a legal hobby. As homebrewers, we need to educate legislators and law enforcement alike.
If baking cakes was illegal without a license, and that cop found a cake pan, he would probably be making the same argument. He would say something like -
oh those cakes may sure be tasty, but the first time you bake it, you might not get the recipe right. It could blind someone or be deadly, might mistake rat poison for sprinkles or something.
Fuck the Police

Stupid drug war. Some guy brews beer and grows some weed in his own home, and he's a criminal. He didn't look like a hardcore drug pusher to me.
