As a kid, never beat the last boss. As a man, downloaded it on Wii, played it through, beat the boss after a hard fight ... and felt the feeling of pride, achievement and "ending a personal chapter".

This game was great, I rememeber running around pressing up everywhere I went to find hidden doors. The last boss was a nightmare though.

The one with the mouse and 'checkered floors' you've mentioned was Wonderboy III: The Dragon's Trap. =)

It was on the Sega Master System.

I remember first trying to play this game when I was little, I was so stupid I didnt realize you had to talk to the creepy old dude to get the moving platform moving at the beginning. Me and a friend of mine spent forever trying to figure it out. Yet once I got past that part, the rest of the game went really smooth. I still had my "stupid kid" moments occasionally. It took me forever to find the game cuz I couldn't remember what it was called. I never thought it would be Wonderboy, lol.

Legendary game thanks for posting brings back the memories these old games are like the fathers of RPG's. roaming towns, counting the coins at the shops, buying new weapons and armour and taking on hordes of monsters in between it all, legendary.

There was a secret, hidden shop covered in vines where you could trade those gemstones for more fire/earthquake/thunder/hearts­; which you needed all of to defeat the final boss.

right, you need to go into the dungeon part in that weird building between the castle and the desert. when you come to the deep water about 2 screens in, equip the trident and dive in. Once you've made it to open water, come up to the surface and explore, eventually you'll come to a building and a woman will tell you where to find the 'amulet'

I found a cheat on internet and it says that after you defeat Gragg & Glagg and getting the Trident you have to press: down, down, left, left, down, down, A,B,A,B to teleport yourself to a secret level that has 10 treasure chests.

Is it fake? Because it doesnt work for me.

I`m stuck at this game.. I got the ocarina and finsihed that first temple.. But there is some knight in blue armor that just wont die.. I hit him like 12 times, and nothing happens.. he must be superman ..and the password is just really a pain :P Still cool game!

Are you sure it's the same game? I don't remember there being a password. If it's the knight I'm thinking of, the princess is stuck behind a waterfall in the background. You need to crouch and hit him, otherwise the blows glance off his armour.

Nice game, the starting song remembers me of the ending of wonderboy in monster land (which I love), from where the first level was re-used here. Both games are excellent, but seems that this is better :).

I think that sega tried with this to reply to nintendo's zelda, because both are action-adventure games, and even if them are different I feel that it is so :). I am wondering how will be this game if sega decided to transform this into a real zelda response.

This game is sooo good!!! (rather ALL Wonderboy Games are). I played the Mastersystem Version of this one. It was my first "big" adventure in a videogame next to Wonderboy III - The Dragon's Trap, when i was about 6 or so. I really miss this time. :-(

I LOVED THIS GAME!!!!! I played "Wonder Boy (2) in Monster Land" for the "Master System" every day for about 3 years straight back when I was 4 years old! That and "Sonic 2" were the only games I had. Good times...
