I wouldn't enjoy much playing the game that way. I like to listen all the dialogue, watch the cutscenes... takes me a few hours. ps.. I solved the planetary moon puzzle with just one mouse click.. I was lucky to stop the normal moon spin in the eclipse spot :P

Ah yes... Played this back when I was in Junior High. Beat it in a day or so, but still a tonne of fun.

Re-playing it now, still love it's ambiance and ability to draw you into a real world.

Gonna re-read the book as well to get the back story things!

@totoro3 hmm..i guess you can never tell...i was stuck once with the thing were you have to show something to maggie robbins but you must do it while you both near a certain thing (the device which reveals the island with forth plate)

Now that riddle - i could not solve several weeks. And never did actually...I was even stopped playing. I wanted to do it myself so badly. but eventually my friend enlightened me with solution and i finished the game in two hours. generator was really easy.

OK, Can ANYONE tell me how they figured out the 2 codes for the console controling the robot? I got the walkthrough but there must have been some clues somewhere no?

its easy, each button moves the device in a direction .. north, east, west and south, the middle button is to grab or release one of the lens, and the other two buttons are for erasing the last input, or all of them .. you what actually have to do, is to grab the lens at the bottom, and place it in the glowing stream where its missing

The buttons move it up down left and right. Use trial an error to get it over the lens, then add the single red pickup thing.

then, when u look at the 3 beams, only 2 of them go to the center column thing, so I thought to put the lens on the third. just use trial and error. it was easy, like Up 7 times, and over 3 times or some such.

This video was most likely made before the 10 minute rule. Youtube videos used to be able to be much longer than 10 minutes.

This is the best example for the fact that it doesn´t have to be the best graphics to make an breathtaking game. The Atmosphere, the intensivety of the scenery, the Music. It´s so haunting, so beautiful. It let´s you dive into this world and feel almost all the emotions from the NPC´s with them. Better and deeper than almost all that kiddie shooter stuff we get today.

Totally agree. I just completed Grim Fandango myself and it's one of my favorite games, even having played it for the first time in 2009. Also did Full Throttle recently, though it wasn't nearly as good as Grim Fandango. =P

This was such a great game. Very difficult at parts. I remember I spent many, many hours trying to figure out that fucking turtle-bone puzzle. It took me and my dad, who has a PhD in Electrical Engineering, to figure the damn thing out. If you happen to be playing the game for the first time, save yourself some trouble and find a walkthrough for that part.

Watching these videos makes me want to play it again. Not many games can top this one.

Nice idea but this game was full of the most stupid and inane puzzle solutions this side of Full Throttle. Definitely LucasArts worst adventure game. Also the lead actor sounds exactly like George Bush Jnr which can't be a good thing ;)

I kinda liked this game after the middle part of it. but i'm prolly never gonna play it again. there's just too many places in the game that you can't skip, and have to sit through boring talks. other than that, great game.

I've actually beat that record of yours, though I don't have the means to show it. I've clocked The Dig at exactly 30:45.

My run was similar, but I didn't spend as much time in the loose bones. The door code keys were also crucial. I skipped each morphing animation, saving a few seconds per key. I didn't spend much time looking at each combination.

Looking at the missing part isn't necessary. All you need is to check the alien device at the top and tell Maggie about the alien machine.

It was originally intended to be a movie, but both Lucas and Spielburg thought it would be to expensive and made a game instead. For reasons on why at the end Brink is an old man and all that, try reading the book. It's pretty good.

The puzzles in this game were what got me launched into sci-fi lore. I got into the Myst series because of this game. There's just something about diving into an unknown civilization and then trying to figure out their technology and mysteries that just seems very satisfying and appealing to me.

Well this is rather dated, but if you can somehow figure out how to get your computer to run it, the Space Quest series has a very similar gameplay style to Dig, though you can actually die in that game and they throw in a lot of sick humor as well. It was an enjoyable series though, so I recommend you look it up if you get the chance.

You need "Scumm", the emulator for old adventure games.

If you use Linux, just click on "Applications"->"Add/Remove" and type in "scumm".

If you use Windows, do a google search for "scumm", find the official web-site, download the right version for your system etc. etc...
