  • @bxxder2008: It's chi sim

  • @bxxder2008

    I think you'll find it's "aw liu": "I piss"

Ask your girlfriend what "Deal lay lomo tow high" means.

  • Wow.... so fluent!

  • wow, this is amazing, just like the way chinese speak.

  • former colonialist, speaking the language of the people he used to oppress, big deal.

  • @avplaya To be fair, he didn't used to opress them. And he isn't a former colonialist. He is just a white man who isn't responsible for the actions of those before him.

However, I don't think this is amazing. People should take a moment to think about all the Chinese people who have learned English and other languages - there's a lot.

  • @avplaya

Oh right.......... that explains why we had such trouble keeping the Chinese from the mainland out of Hong Kong - because we oppressed them so much you dumb fucker

  • its good but it just doesnt look right lol

  • @bxxder2008

I need to go pee: Aw yiu aw-liu.

I need to take a shit: Aw yiu aww sii.

I'm gonna (I need to have) diarrhea: Aw yiu aw pet pet.

Cantonese words have a lot of onomatopoeia. Pet-pet is the sound, you can imagine.

  • @luf4rall lol!!!

  • This guy is legit

  • I'm Chinese and I speak good English. Why isn't anyone complimenting me on that?

  • @Powderful888 cause you never put a video up for us to judge you

  • @Powderful888 because English is one of the easiest languages to learn

  • @CK2033 There is no such thing as an "easy" language. That factors down to your native language and your learning capabilities. Say, a person that speaks a romance language such as French can learn Spanish or Italian more "easily" than English. The same thing applies to; Slavic, germanic etc.

  • @CK2033 says who?you?haha

  • @Powderful888 well done haha im scottish and i speak good mandarin, but who gives a fuck?i dont.

  • Of course, his Cantonese is very good because he has immigrated to Hong Kong for a long long time. The pronunciation and the way he speaks is 99.99% Hong Kong local.

  • now he is good. wow!!!

  • i'm chinese and his chinese is better than mine

  • OMG he's better than me =.=;;

  • god its better than mine and i cant sspeak it !

  • Unbelievable.....

That's just eye-widening to see that. way too good.

He loves Hong Kong deeply down the heart you can tell.

  • i hope i can do that when im 60 odd

  • i'm Cantonese and his Cantonese is better than mine >.>...disgrace!

  • LOOOOOOOOOL!!!!! THATS AWESOME!!! HE'S BETTER THAN ME. I'M ASIAN BUT I MAINLY SPEAK ENGLISH! BUT I DO SPEAK CANTONESE.

  • racist

  • @silentfades That's pathetic and naive. So because someone is speaking a language of different decent, it is racist? How does that make sense?

Oh, so I guess Chinese people are racist to English people for trying to learn the language?

That's so naive and stupid. You have put no thought into that statement.

  • @silentfades idiot

    雖然我是白人和外國人,可是我學國語學了兩多年了。

Because I'm a white guy learning Mandarin, that makes me racist? People don't spend years learning thousands of Chinese characters and words and working on mastering tonal pronunciation because they're racist. Next time think for two seconds before you type.

  • @vorpal22 clearly you have no idea what intended satire is

    ignorant

  • @silentfades Your post may well have been satire, but to expect people to recognize that a one word post is intent of satire is a little naive.

  • @silentfades

Apparently you don't either. Satire tends to have more than a qurter second's thought put into it.

You made a stupid joke. Accept the mistake and learn from it.

  • i once met a Japanese man who could speak Persian fluently and read/write in Persian and Arabic nicer than my parents who are Persian..

Then again my mums side of the family speak 4-5 languages too. But I think it's the rareness of seeing these races mix that suprise people. A white man speaking chinese.. I would like to a see a Chinese guy speaking Spanish.

  • @rkpmusictube Well, I speak spanish and I'm chinese, haha.

  • @PpsychoJOhnny loll thats awesome!! respect =)

  • for those people that think this is SO unamazing, what IS amazing about this is that a person has taken the time to learn another language and is so fluent, that's great if you can speak a language too, but the fact that someone has put in all the effort required in learning a language ESPECIALLY any of the CHINESE langauges this is a testament to their intellect and love for the that culture!!!! THAT is AMAZING!

  • @BlaqMach The problem is I don't know anything about his background, because I can't understand what he's saying. If he was brought up in Hong Kong and/or 1 or both of his parents know Cantonese and spoke it to him has a child, then this really isn't impressive at all.

  • @yurismir1 He came to HK in 1978. He says his Cantonese wasn't nearly as good then. So I assume he took some language classes, and then picked up Cantonese as he emersed himself in life there.

  • What's the deal ??? i mean what's so amazing about this ? not that i'm jealous because i'm asian and i speak french english japanase chiu chow mandarin ...etc. it happens to people to speak amazing languages .. there is so many english people that speaks mandarin, so what's the deal for me it's not amazing at all !

  • why is this so cool :P aweesomeeee

  • Chinese is EASY to speak! The pronunciation and grammar is so simple compared to English.

  • @kafsdf

    既然被你說得如此簡單?

  • @kafsdf

    我覺得中文比英語還復雜,特別是生字和文言文。

  • DAMM, fucking cantonese is better than mine, and im british chinese...shame

  • @baba14k Really is, my parents tried to teach me cantonese and I only know a little bit lol. I understand it, just don't speak it as much :P

  • He is so fluent in cantonese

  • He has lived in hong kong for some time. A great man and Educator. You can't be around Stephen and not learn something.

  • omfg, he speak cantonese better than me.. and cantonese is my mother tongue..

  • @TheManGuyDude

teach Cantonese for Cantonese children in Guangdong's school.

  • dang he speaks better Cantonese than most of my Cantonese friends.

  • @bugoy11 it's Cantonese.

  • How does he compare with Dashan? Meaning his accent.

  • ooohhh you speak manderine

  • @bugoy111 It's cantonese. Mandarin is a completely different dialect, with different pronunciation techniques and all. It is like saying French and Spanish are the same.

  • I thought it was some random local old man speaking. Wow.

  • @cantehk do you teach cantonese? please I really want to learn i've been living in hk for 16 years and i can just count to 10 its sooo sad. your accent sounds really good!

  • @pippylunalove This old dude was probably born in HK, and living there for 50+ years has its benefits id say.

LOL how do you manage to live in HK for 16 and be only able to count to 10? It takes a couple months to learn conversational canto (or any other language) if you live there.

IMO the problem is that you simply havent even tried to learn or perhaps dont have the time.

  • @Buuub08 k do you teach cantonese and if you dont can you tell me somewhere that does? I have tried but the cantonese teachers didn't like me and my friends refuse to teach me

  • @pippylunalove No i dont teach, the only thing im allowed to teach is English in mainland China. Anyway, i dont think finding someone who is giving canto lessons is a problem in HK, cant give you anything specific right now 'cause i havent been to HK for a very long time. LOL, what do you mean the teachers didnt like you? That sounds odd. And why wont your friends teach you? I assume you have tried to learn then, why didnt it work out?

  • @Buuub08 for the teachers i think i was too jumpy and loud and annoying. my mum was going to put me in a cantonese nursery but she didn't like the fact that we were going to be learning abc at age 3 while sitting quietly on the ground. my friends didn't want to teach me i think because they wouldn't be able to gossip about me in canto

  • @pippylunalove jumpy, loud and annoying?!! heh-heh-heh :D Yeah, i guess that was the issue, your personality, you just wont sit down and learn. No offense meant, thats the idea i get.

Well then i think you have to learn on your own, although i still dont understand how you manage to live in HK for so long and not be able to speak/understand even basic canto. I mean you have the environment all around you. When i went to Germany i learned German in like 6 months on my own and no one taught me.

  • @Buuub08 yea thats a bit me i just dont like languages currently doing french in school and just passing. As i go to an international school they teach mandarin instead of canto :(.

  • @Buuub08 .. You are really bright to be able to taught yourself German in just 6 months alone. I am Asian too and i have been here in Germany for more than a year now and i still cant write.. although i can have a simple conversation in German but writing in German is still an issue for me...

Now, you have my respect.. hehehee :-)

  • it's also funny that all we notice here was that an English man speaks cantonese instead of hearing what he actually said.

  • Just by hearing the voice you wont even be able to tell apart if hes white or not. He sound so Chinese!

  • O.M.G. he speaks it so fluently it's a little scary to see it come out of him like that. WOW O_O

  • It's freaky to see any non-Chinese speaking canto because it's such a hard language to learn... 6 different tones - get the tone of any single word wrong & it becomes incomprehensible.

BTW - canto is mono-syllabic, so that's a whole lotta different tones in a sentence.

Tone generally doesn't matter in English, so is therefore easier to learn. When Chinese people mimic English speakers gabbling, they go "lo lo, do do" in a monotone.

  • Yes, people find it strange to hear caucasians speaking asian languages although I dont know why, although I knew a japanese fellow that was born and raised in Scotland and to hear him and to hear him speak fluent 'Scottish' was completely bizarre at first.

  • i love hong kong. so much better than this shit hole LA, CA

  • He is not english, he is Hong Kongnese!

  • @IKNFLY666 no dont use that term its horrible!

  • What would even be more trippy to American sensibilities is the fact that many 'Asians' are speaking English with British accents! American college theatre kids like to 'effect' a British accent but really have no contact with any UK person or culture. But since places like Hong Kong, Singapore& Malaysia were relatively recent British colonies waay after America was one, it's no fucking wonder they have British pronunciations! What a mind fuck: Asians sounding more 'white' than US kids are??

  • @coolmatterstome to speak with an english accent doesnt make u sound white.

  • The British have left a legacy of white superiority in all aspects of life in the US especially in TV images of Asians. Even though the two countries have progressed since, there subtly exists a stench of snobbery. So when American white kids mock Asians for their accents or funny English, I just want to remind those Yank wankers where the OG snobbery came from in the first place: the ENGLISH from England! US whites got nothin to snob about, in fact its hippo critical to the US Constitution.

  • @coolmatterstome the point i was trying to make, which you missed, was that there are people of all races who come from england so to speak with an english accent does not make you sound white. there are many different accents in england.

  • @ruseangirl Yes Im well aware of that. Posh, Liverpudlian, Midlander, Cockney etc. I am directing this mainly at American white kids. I may sound ignorant here but that is the social climate that bred a mofo ABCantonese like me and I cant seem let go of the hurt. At least the British i've met are superficially tolerant and well cultured enough to know who is who among their previous colonies. But the average white in America is liable to be a hick that is underexposed, ignorant, & bigoted

  • @coolmatterstome Lol, you're fucking fucking full of it. You've got serious identity issues. -.-

  • @VictimOfBoredom Don't know what area of the US u live in, or what era you grew up in, or if you're even ABC at all, but that was my reality, and stereotyping is a reality here in this shithole. IF you aren't a VICTIM like your name implies, SHED SOME ENLIGHTENMENT FOR US ALL or crawl back in your hole and shut your monkey ass trap UP and GO BACK TO slurping down a greasy plate of GON CHOW OW HAW!!

  • @VictimOfBoredom Don't know what area of the US u live in, or what era you grew up in, or if you're even ABC at all, but that was my reality, and stereotyping is a reality here in this shithole. IF you aren't a VICTIM like your name implies, SHED SOME ENLIGHTENMENT FOR US ALL or DO US A FAVOR and crawl back in your hole and shut your monkey ass trap UP and GO BACK TO slurping down a greasy plate of GONE CHOW OW HAW cos your opinions are USELESS!!

  • @coolmatterstome Sorry, but none of that immature ranting changes the fact that you're full of shit (indeed, it only affirms it).

"I may sound ignorant here but"

Well, at least you got that right. Maybe you're not so hopeful after all.

P.S. - Just because you experience stereotyping one place doesn't mean you'll experience it everywhere. As if that obvious point really needs to be said. -_-

  • insane... european speaking fluently cantonese

  • hell no Cantonese is hard to learn, just stick to English plz;))))

  • wow. kudos to him, shame for me

  • @Shtoops27 boo

  • Comment removed

  • stephen, sorry to say white privilege is still alive and well in HK. white people are still put on a pedestal wherever they go. maybe becoz you can't notice that because you *are* white.

  • wow!. !!!

  • :O -Simply amazed...-

  • 28 years living in HK and his cantonese is so good with only little little accent! i appreciate that!

  • Poor dude. A foreigner wherever he goes.

  • When he apparently said " Dumbfuck " a lot of people assume, hes actually saying

    Num Fart** ;)

Which means sorta like thinking way

  • I would have never guessed it was an english person speaking Cantonese if it hadn't shown him on the screen...

  • Cantonese sounds so much more... um.... I can't seem to find the word for it...

Anyway, it sounds slightly more old and developed than Mandarin. And I like the slurring of some of the words that is used in speech. But it's indeed the hardest Chinese dialect, with 7 tone marks!

  • omg hes very good at speakin cantonese for an english person!

  • You know what, I really don't know why I posted that comment. I didn't even mean it. Is there som way to delete comments?

  • Good on him. I respect people who aren't born locally but can speak the local language fluently.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheDarkness852 what are u trying to say

  • @TheDarkness852 um. basically it the same either way. for what is language anyway? it's just a method of communication. how do we communicate? by making sounds which are able to be understood to the person you're trying to communicate to.

it's all subjective. just because english makes sense to you, that doesn't mean mean it won't sound like it was "created by people making random noises" to a non-english speaking person.

  • @TheDarkness852 If people don't understand another language, they'll always think the language is nothing but random noise.

  • Sounds good dude. I wish more Cantonese people (including myself) would learn to speak in a more genteel lway like you. LOL!!!

  • he kinda sounds like my Chinese uncle

  • lol imagine if he has a chinese accent speaking english!

  • he speaks better than natives

  • scary he sounds like a cantonese

  • Wow. Just like a native speaker, no accent, correct inflection, everything....and he learned it as a grown up. Cantonese is one of those langugues that you speak it fluently or don't speak it at all becuase nobody will understand you and you will sound like a fool.

  • he is good, but he still has an accent when speaking cantonese.

  • Always mind boggling to see a white guy speaking Chinese at a fluent/native level. As for Cantonese white guys, that's a dying breed.

  • cantonese should be international language!

    jk! :)

  • @bananian Yes, Thumb up for u!!!

  • @bananian Mandarin is starting to become a international language apparently and when it does, Cantonese could be likely to become an international language too. More and more people are starting to learn mandarin in places such as England and other countries.

  • @bananian hell no, Cantonese is hard to learn, just stick to English plz

  • @bananian XD if Cantonese is international language that will be much less troublesome for HK people! BTW are you a native Cantonese speaker? =]

  • @bananian i luv cantonese it sounds so cool

  • Its not so rare finding a brithish guy speaking cantonese, since Hongkong were british colony-british domain, its quite easy for chinese people to learn any kind of languages, but in the other hand, foreingers learning chinese its just fucking imposible,to learn it perfecttly...far away,Not even if you are a chinese writing profesor, chinese languages is so complex at the same time so rich and colorfull ,and easy to explain you meaning without saying a lot...thanks for posting.

  • I wonder if so many people will be impressed if a cantonese speaks English... I wonder... He he... =)

  • i think cantonese is his first language.

  • Actually, he said he came to Hong Kong in 1978. At first his Cantonese was not very good, but he gradually mastered it.

  • @myacnt8999

no, his mother togue surely is English

  • whoa dammit I thought it was a local hong konger speaking.

  • i would lol if he has a chinese accent when he speaks english xD

  • That's a real mindfuck.

  • he should say a sentence in english and then cantonese

  • wow!!his cantonese language better then me..

  • I know a few Expat cops who speak Cantonese like a local, so I was not surprised by this guy.

  • Mad skills dude.

  • My God, if I didn't see his face, I could not imagine that he is white guy who speaks Cantonese so perfect that with hardly any accent..

  • Thumbs up to you

  • ya sooo good and it is quite funny when u r watching a 鬼佬 speak canto so well~~ hahah nice nice~~~

  • holy shit. His canto is mad good. He speaks canto without any accents.

  • oh shit his canto is mad good.

  • 晕,讲太好

  • his cantonese is just like local hongkonger's cantonese fluency

  • uhh... holy shit.

  • his cantonese is really good.

  • damn, i'm like him but i'm no way near that good.

  • LAWL he speaks better cantonese than I do.. and my roots comes from Hong Kong xD!!!

    Respect though:P

  • then you really should look into the root and improve your cantonese

  • doesn't sounds like a white man =.=

  • Wow...his Cantonese is really good!

  • An English Gweilos speak good Cantonese. He works for the government in Hong Kong. :o)

  • So GD!!!

  • Selby shoudl do a Mike Rowse and get a Chinese passport.

  • That is the reason why Selby couldn't cut it the colonial civil service in Hong Kong.

  • LMAO how cool is this. btw did he say Dumb Fuck at 0:20 ???

  • he said: 諗法 (nam2 faat3)

  • @cantehk meaning "that was the way it was thought to be"

  • @cantehk lum-faat? you pronounce in with an n?

  • he sed "lum faht" which means "think of" i think

  • Ohhh okay ;) thanks.

  • @airbus94

hahaha, He Said nam fatt, not dumb fuck

In Cantonese, It means "in his mind"

  • @airbus94

    You're fucking funny lol

  • @airbus94 he did not say tht he meant "wat they are thinking"

  • @airbus94 it's "lum fat", which translates to mindset.

  • @airbus94 hahahahah dude ,.. im as high as a kite .. and could not stop laughing at 0.20

    awesome on brah. :)

  • id say cantonese is harder to learn than mandarin because the sounds are less distinctive compared to mandarin.

  • he speaks near prefect Cantonese, i say near perfect because he does have a very very slight accent and you can only hear it when he speaks certain works or phrases for example at 0:36 - 37 when he says slowly (man man)

  • His cantonese is nearly perfect. 95 out of 100. Sightly little foreighers' accent.

  • Cool. Wayto go man

  • wow.. xD

his cantonese is really really good O__O

no accent.. his cantonese is perfect

he sounds like a native speaker

    wooaa xD

  • Whoa, that's awesome. And Cantonese must be 9/4 times harder to learn than Mandarin. But it is possible! Just look at him go!

  • Lmao i doubt it's that hard to learn. Just watch people saying canto and you'll understand

  • so he's Cauca-asian? lol...joke

    CAu-asian...hehehe

  • haha your comment made me laugh

  • very cool to hear him speak. yeah. That is awesome.

  • OH MY!! Why are there soo many westerners can speak Canto without accent?!?!

  • Undoubtedly his cantonese is pretty well. Without watching him, I would think that he's a native speaker ( Pure HongKonger)

  • I think Guandong is going to be the first multi-cultural province in China.

  • yea i have relatives there and last time i went to visit them the airport was like only 1/2 chinese the rest were foreigners.

  • I know I've been to Shenzen, Canton (Guangzhou) and Hong Kong there are so many foreigns they're not only at the airpot some even work there.

  • Not being racist of anything but its soooo weird hearing a white man speaking Cantonese haha
