I prefer Fedora, it natively comes with so much more like... • Live images that even allow you to boot from a USB key. • The option to install all Server Applications, Gnome, and KDE at once. • Simple DSL Setup • SELinux • NFS • Samba • Compatibility Libraries • Development Packages • Compilation Tools • Programming Tools & Editors • +1000 other Native Applications
Ubuntu used to be good for beginners. They had stable, simple software. Lately, however, they've been shipping newer, stuff like Pulseaudio, grub2, Plymouth, devicekit etc.
Only problem is that, since Fedora (Red Hat) actually develop most Linux tech, they are much better about implementing these features properly and fixing problems as they are discovered. Lately I've found Fedora to be MORE STABLE than Ubuntu.
In fact I can't think of a SINGLE way Ubuntu is better than Fedora any more.
@SimianMan everybody got his own linux favorite maybe you like fedora more but i like ubuntu more but it doesnt make sense to say then that fedora is better then ubuntu they got both there strong and weak points.
@ChildAdvent987 They are equally impressive and have different offerings to different users. Ubuntu is more considered for an easy transition from Windows, however Fedora is more focused on IT professionals and those wanting configure the hell out of their systems and understand the root workings of their computers.
how to get this effects enabled? i have compiz running, got ccsm installed, downloaded and installed extra plugins and have enabled them in ccsm but i can not get all these effects on my Fedora 10.pls tell me how u did it. thanx in advance.
In my Compaq Laptop with only an integrated nVidia 7000M Compiz really rocks!! Is ten times more reliable and fast than Aero. Aero is only a big lie :D.
Children are like bulls, they just love colours and moving things. After my switch to Fedora KDE, I now believe that the Mac has finally met its match. Our next generation is going to be a whole lot of Linux users! :D
wine/cedega/crossover... yeah some games degrade more than others, but then the idea is to get vendors to actually make native Linux games. You do this by a) using Linux, and b) buying Linux native games. Steam will soon slowly start marching in that direction, and several other titles have started springing.
On the flip side, some games actually run great under wine. :)
But after sometime when i can manually install and manage packages and system components properly and freed up dependency from Fancy "mandatory" package managers.. And can do it fluently as in Windows...
And tweaking the new shader models and unified low level processors should be musch easier in OpenGL, as they're barely designed for DirectX -to make some demand on NEW hardware and earn.. How can a decently running on - a -Pentium 3 - system can make demand for new hardware and take attention for major producers ?
And how can producers earn ?

I am a new fedora user. So, I downloaded Compiz, compiled it, all that crap, but it doesn't give me the option to utilize the cube like that. How did you specifically do it?
If you know your way around Linux pretty well and don't sweat a little breakage here and there, Fedora isn't so bad. I've used it for a few months and haven't had any major problems.
Could you please list some of the pluggins you are using on that please? I have Compiz but not half of these features... that rotating wheel type thing looks cool! And that document flip.. VERY nice! What are they called? How do I grab them?
Windows is an operating system designed for people that do not know how to work a computer properly. It holds your habd for you and does everything for you. ANY Linux operating system is faster, more secure.. oh and is 100% virus free!
You say it is better? I ask HOW is it better?
Faster? no
More stable? no
Virus protection? no
price? no
so.. why is it better again? your such a sheep! Microsoft fan.. pah.. absolute junk!
I like how open source is "Communistic" in your book. I guess I should pay microsoft a few hundred every few years to feel patriotic and support capitalistic methods.
I have Linux running on some "dated, older" machines. One with an old 128 meg gForce card and mine runs the Compiz Cube fine. Making nice desk-top recording like this one is another matter. Making these recordings requires a better card. I'm running gOS Linux and Ubuntu. Both run Compiz without a hitch.
I was messing around with Ubuntu 8.10 and Compiz Fusion today but it didn't like me very much so I got Fedora 10 on the way down. Keep your fingers crossed for graphical penguin goodieness =D

:: Download the program called " Deskspace " for Vista. Exactly the same thing and even more practical.

Hope the same attraction will still remains after they only play ten-year old game titles and emulator is hardware specific
acharad 2 years ago
Firstly, not everyone plays games, and what are you on about "emulator"? I am confused.
jacogeez 2 years ago
Just try to play a game with Cedega. You would see the lack of performance...
Or try to work with accelerated CS4 Interfaces with Wine...
