Чертов Рай Кудер! А как хорош! Настоящий соленый потный блюз - от корней! This is an authentic Blues! It smells like Blues & it sounds like Blues & it surely is.
@woordenstroom7 Yeah man, well put: "It just gets to you, the voices, the slide, the atmosphere of the whole thing." You should thank your father; many never get to hear real music in their homes growing up. To feel the beating, throbbing heart of this music is to experience the fullness of Life for just a few moments. Check Ry Cooder w, Mavis Staples on We'll Never Turn Back. They do this song; the whole CD has this feel, that thing that "just gets to you."
I dont want to insult anyone but the blues I think this is a attitude. You can HEAR when it is genuine, it could be blues, flamenco, soul or any other fucking genre whatsoever. The soul must be there, but its not about guitar licks.
When are we going to learn that it is MONEY itself that is causing our problems. In order for things to have monetary value they must be scarce. That fact stops us from producing things like food and good housing in abundance, which we have the technology to do. It is time we changed and started working together. It is one world and we are all one. Google Zeitgeist Moving Forward 20011 and the Venus Project.
When a band is labeld "The Best Band Of The World" it means to, stupid, ignorant people like you "It is the best band in every musical aspect". This song proofs you should get the last rites and commit suicide, cause this song proofs, blueswise the Beatles are fucking lame-o-s.
Without wishing to insult anyone about their taste or personal opinion, i wouldn't want to compare artists performing one genre of music against another performing another genre of music. That would just be silly. Come to think of it, i wouldn't want to compare artists of the same genre as everyone has their own taste and good or bad it ain't for me to decide. This tune however, i love. But that's just me. :-)
Ry has such a heart, passion and connection for the sentiment of this song - and the people so moved by their long-ago hurtful memories of Mississippi. He did a likewise BEAUTIFUL job of producing Mavis Staples' wonderful CD.
Terry Evans (singing, and a fine guitarist) version of the old hit "SO FINE" from his "BLUES FOR THOUGHT" deserves a place here too. Ry Cooder may play lead on it as well. Thanks!
How could eight people say they dislike this "tidal wave" of talent? Regardless of ones political or musical preferences, an honest person cannot deny greatness!
A MASTER Is RY Cooder & This Song Is From A Favorite CD Of Mine "Crossroads" I Sure ly LOVE This & Live OWWWWWW ☆☆☆☆☆ Does'nt Get Any Better Than This. Kudos
Why was it not released/sold to the US??? I was raised/reared in Memphis, have lived in Australia since'79, but discovered Ry Cooder years ago. He is a genius, with Black blues, and Tex-Mex...a genius. This version of Down in Mississippi is....magnificent, as is the recent release by Mavis Staples. The song itself is a masterpiece...but must be sung by people who have "soul," Black or White.
Cooder's guitar is complementary to the fantastic Black singer...Cooder is white, and has soul.....

The vocals are so strong they could break the chains of slavery! The singer looks like he could break them with his bare hands & if he was a preacher the Devil would be on the first train out of town ! RESPECT !
This song moves my ass everytime I hear it. Man... the most haunting vocals I've probably ever heard, with Ry Cooder sliding that icing on the cake... Some music theorists think the "third" doesn't belong in the panatonic (blues) scale.. Couldn't disagree more...
@SimplyPhalin No they just helped you locate the one that was hiding all along. Gospel music soothes the soul, opens the heart and calms the mind. The Beatles recognized this kind of music, and fully appreciated it. I'm sure Ry Cooder and the others do the same towards The Beatles.
People argueing one is worth nothing, because they like the other better, miss the point of music... entirely.
