  • Чертов Рай Кудер! А как хорош! Настоящий соленый потный блюз - от корней! This is an authentic Blues! It smells like Blues & it sounds like Blues & it surely is.

  • since the beatles sang Rock and Ry Cooder did blues, hmmmmm.

  • Oooo. Nicest version I've heard yet :)

  • Just the BLUES - Thank you

  • This is Music with capital M! That voice sends shivers down my spine!

  • i looooove this version. wow

  • O,.. MAMO!!!!! TO JEST BLUES!!

  • Fuck the Beatles.

  • And this said: my father had this concert on VHS back in the 80's.

Together with a few parts of Woodstock this must have been the concert video I watched the most in my teens.

It just gets to you, the voices, the slide, the atmosphere of the whole thing...

  • @woordenstroom7 Yeah man, well put: "It just gets to you, the voices, the slide, the atmosphere of the whole thing." You should thank your father; many never get to hear real music in their homes growing up. To feel the beating, throbbing heart of this music is to experience the fullness of Life for just a few moments. Check Ry Cooder w, Mavis Staples on We'll Never Turn Back. They do this song; the whole CD has this feel, that thing that "just gets to you."

  • The Beatles recognized this kind of music, and fully appreciated it. I'm sure Ry Cooder and the others do the same towards The Beatles.

People argueing one is worth nothing, because they like the other better, miss the point of music... entirely.

'If you don't like, don't knock it.'

  • terry madafakin evans WHATTA VOICE!!!

  • goosebumps

  • From U.K. to Clintl63 I don't know what is going on here either, The Beatles - what the f---- they were only showbiz pop. This here is real music .

  • I dont want to insult anyone but the blues I think this is a attitude. You can HEAR when it is genuine, it could be blues, flamenco, soul or any other fucking genre whatsoever. The soul must be there, but its not about guitar licks.

  • Bring me up to speed boys...What the Beatles got to do with this tune?...??This is Southron Blues: NOT British POP!!! (goofy bastards) lol

  • @ClintL63 ...J.B.Lenoir?

  • @UserNamei5

When a band is labeld "The Best Band Of The World" it means to, stupid, ignorant people like you "It is the best band in every musical aspect". This song proofs you should get the last rites and commit suicide, cause this song proofs, blueswise the Beatles are fucking lame-o-s.

  • @UserNamei5

Du bist halt nur ein armer Beatles Schwanzlutscher.

  • Without wishing to insult anyone about their taste or personal opinion, i wouldn't want to compare artists performing one genre of music against another performing another genre of music. That would just be silly. Come to think of it, i wouldn't want to compare artists of the same genre as everyone has their own taste and good or bad it ain't for me to decide. This tune however, i love. But that's just me. :-)

  • @UserNamei5

Vice Versa II "You'd wish your dick to become as hard as this song, try Viagra man".

  • @UserNamei5

To make it clear to lame-os- like you. When using an "argumentum ad hominem" makes you the lamest of them all.

All I want to point out is the fact "The Beatles are an overrated band".

Ry is the blues and he's hardcore.

To make it "vice versa" --> You're granny chocked on the Beatles Lame-O fanny flakes.

  • This music is as real as it gets.

Too bad the recording here is in mono.

  • cleaning my axe to this music. feels good.

  • he's the man!

  • DAMN! that man howls like howling wolf!

  • Oh yes! Ry just does it every-f*in-time.... No one on earth has the same effect on me.

  • The ship left eath's atmospher at 4:35 ..... Triple genius !!

  • Ry has such a heart, passion and connection for the sentiment of this song - and the people so moved by their long-ago hurtful memories of Mississippi. He did a likewise BEAUTIFUL job of producing Mavis Staples' wonderful CD.

  • If it got any better, my head and heart would simply explode.

  • Great artist, fabulous recording! Thank you for this great post.

  • Good tune

  • life aint so bad when you hear music like this xx

  • Terry Evans (singing, and a fine guitarist) version of the old hit "SO FINE" from his "BLUES FOR THOUGHT" deserves a place here too. Ry Cooder may play lead on it as well. Thanks!

  • How could eight people say they dislike this "tidal wave" of talent? Regardless of ones political or musical preferences, an honest person cannot deny greatness!

  • lady gaga can gagagaga gag on my balls :p

  • @billy26592 Yo'd let a dude suck your balls? :( JK

  • is this available on dvd

  • I need this version of the song, but where can I get it!? Nowhere...NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Oh well...I guess I'll just listen to Lady GagGag.

  • Does it get any better than this ?? Nope it sure dont , a modest gentle genius

a true legend , dont forget theres a hell of a band playing as well , bless you Ry Cooder

  • Ryland Cooder is the MAN!

  • f!!!king fantastic

  • Ry Cooder's best & dats sayin a lot. Whooooooooo!!

  • This song reaches down into your soul and pulls it out. Fantastic.

  • Turn it up.

  • I discovered Ry Cooder on Bop Till you Drop and have been working backwards ever since.

    Great stuff.

  • The Beatles are a shit compared to this.

  • @opiumrebel not really.

  • only the Beatles????

  • @opiumrebel only the Beatles???

  • @opiumrebel ........... don't compare and you don't get the shit, Ry's not from the same planet....

  • @opiumrebel .. don't compare my friend and no shit will get u......

  • @opiumrebel stupid comment

  • @opiumrebel haha imagin

  • @opiumrebel Why compare the two? It's not a competition, just so you know...

  • @opiumrebel YEAH...AND GOD EXIST

  • @opiumrebel What a stupid comment. This is great music, don't compare by trashing, just enjoy

  • @opiumrebel FUCK YOU.

  • @opiumrebel how can you even come close to thinking that? you are sooo illiterate.

  • ww.youtube.com/watch?v=wNecQ1z6P1g

  • Absolutely amazing music.

  • 1:27 he looks like George Benson :O

    Great RY!

  • nice shoes!! 3:40

  • A MASTER Is RY Cooder & This Song Is From A Favorite CD Of Mine "Crossroads" I Sure ly LOVE This & Live OWWWWWW ☆☆☆☆☆ Does'nt Get Any Better Than This. Kudos

  • Why was it not released/sold to the US??? I was raised/reared in Memphis, have lived in Australia since'79, but discovered Ry Cooder years ago. He is a genius, with Black blues, and Tex-Mex...a genius. This version of Down in Mississippi is....magnificent, as is the recent release by Mavis Staples. The song itself is a masterpiece...but must be sung by people who have "soul," Black or White.

Cooder's guitar is complementary to the fantastic Black singer...Cooder is white, and has soul.....

  • Mavis Staple does this song proud also on her Live/ Hope at the Hideout recording from Chicago......

  • @NaughtyPix8392 hahah not funny bro ;) just hang yourself so you don`t have that problem anymore ;)

  • Looks like there's eight George Thorogood fans that didn't like the vid. I guess if you don't know.......you don't know. That's about as down home as it gets. I wish they would do "somebody's callin my name" that was in the film.

  • I see this was filmed at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, CA - '87 or '88 - damn, just think I was often there from Berkeley then. Would have given a lot to see some of this. Wonder why Ry didn't want the film released in USA?

  • dałbym dwieście kciuków w górę ale nie zmieszczą się

  • ZAJEBISTE !!!! WOKAL POWALA !!

  • what a voice

  • @shademonger13

jo, sry in german... grob zusammengefaßt ist alles ab 1990 vermarktet wurde kompletter müll. mit Ausnahmen. Talent Shows schön und gut. An so etwas kommt so eine möchtegern Show in 10000 Jahren nicht dran :))

  • awesome.

  • I read somewhere that he has a pickup from a lap steel guitar fitted...(it goes around the strings)...and that is where the killer tone comes from.

  • Ahhhh.. now I could listen to this all day. Man, what comfort to the soul..close your eyes and drift..love it.

  • can some please pause at 3:38 and tell me what kind of shoes/boots Ry is wearing? Thanks

  • Best Bluesmovie ever made, CROSSROADS!!!!!!

  • swampy guitarist action ... lovin it.

  • The real deal indeed!

  • does anyone know what kind of guitar Ry is using?

    ty

  • @pokermmaman That's a modified 70's Stratocaster, custom pickguard, with one Humbucker in the middle, and Im not able to see the bridge pickup -but if I had to guess, an old DeArmond one would be my guess.

  • @TheBluesB4Sunrise thanks man! much appreciated :)

  • OOOzles of talent on that stage! Why this wasn't promoted is beyond comprehension!

Cooder is the "sleeper" of the music biz if ever there was one. A GENIUS of note!

  • Schwarzenegger of guitar

  • Dear Santa, I have been a good boy this year and my wish is this... Can you PLEASE bring bring back REAL music... Music that has a SOUL... Music with HEART... Music with MEANING. It's not much to ask for is it Santa??

  • awesome respect to a phenominal band.

  • Shit, I wish i could sing like that!

  • I am lovin this.. poppa taught me the blues over here buddy.. Georgia boy.. let's see, I was 3 years old when they performed this. I always said I wished I could go back n live through the 60's and 70's, well this (and SRV, among others) gives me a reason to say the 80's too!

  • @DanT2184 what about flock of seagulls? now theres a reason to visit the 80`s

     ;p

  • The only thing that comes to mind is WOW!!!

  • Awesome is the film available in the uk.If you like Tarry Evans vocals try him with Hans Theesink 'Demons'

  • Why did youtube have to take down the thing to download videos as an mp3?!

  • Magnificent

  • Magnificent

  • This is the best version I've ever heard of Down In Mississippi. Knocks my socks off!

  • einfach nur geil !!!!

  • God I wish i could sing like that...

  • so nice...

  • This song really gets me down and low.... :))

    Great video

  • wrote it before, write it again "White man can jump"

  • Man what a powerful & haunting performance from the entire band - great interplay and musical texture !

The vocals are so strong they could break the chains of slavery! The singer looks like he could break them with his bare hands & if he was a preacher the Devil would be on the first train out of town ! RESPECT !

  • This song moves my ass everytime I hear it. Man... the most haunting vocals I've probably ever heard, with Ry Cooder sliding that icing on the cake... Some music theorists think the "third" doesn't belong in the panatonic (blues) scale.. Couldn't disagree more...

  • Awesome upload, my fried!!

    How are you?

    Jerry

  • this soo - perfect - I was there - I lived at that time - I pass it on - this is ... deep... real

  • In 7 minutes and 42 seconds, I was given a soul.

  • @SimplyPhalin AMEN!!!

  • @SimplyPhalin No they just helped you locate the one that was hiding all along. Gospel music soothes the soul, opens the heart and calms the mind. Blues Gospel, ironically, leads to good humour and good laughs. To my mind it is a collective 'moan' where everyone acknowledges each other's pain and life's troubles. Kind of like playing a 'sense of belonging'. And heck it sure sounds good.

  • @SimplyPhalin Sweet one.........you have always had a soul........maybe this wonderful piece of Americana

woke it up after a deep sleep............isn't this just great stuff........Bobby King and Terry Evans did one on "Rounder" record label that is just amazing...........in mid 90's............enjoy........i need to see if it's on youTube my self..........bless us all........

  • @SimplyPhalin It happened to me also, but already 20 years ago. Whenever Ry plays, I find my soul again. He also has this great gift to find great these great people to play with, again and again...

  • Down in Mississippi, the sun does indeed does beat down from the sky.

  • God, this is absolutely amazing! WOW!

  • white boy on the guitar has soul... I mean they all do, but that guy can really play.

  • @st1ckman456

I think you mean RY COODER.... :P

    he's legend!

  • I just have a description: THAT'S DELICIOUS!!! THANKS!!!

  • BROTHERS AND SISTERS I HAVE COMMENTED TWICE ALREADY

CAN'T GET ENOUGH! SO PURE! SO PERFECT! SO COOL.

RY,YOU HAVE TAUGHT ME SLIDE VERY WELL! AN AWESOME INFLUENCE!

  • Great!!!

  • wow!

  • this is the man. not playing for a clap. when are we gonni get that music when the real is gone ry.

  • What amp is he using here?

  • I didn't know who Ry Cooder was until I saw RS 100 list (which is complete crap by the way)

But now I know why Ry was so high on the list. Holy crap!

  • A+ booze crooze tune

  • omg. . . i feel alive!

  • i think it's Terry Evans singing, from the "puttin it down" album.

  • Who is the singer? Bobby King? (Just a guess-- whoever it is reminds me of a vocalist who sang with Parliament-Funkadelic back in the day)..

  • @4rainbowed No, Bobby King is the guy in the dark shirt who sings the song "chain gang" perfectly and hardly to be topped! But in this R.C's band, everyone it unique!!!

  • sounds like 110 in the shade. phenominal

  • je ne connais pas les paroles mais cela me prend aux tripes ,

  • HE MAN IS A TUE GIANT!

  • My soul is jumping way back, to the OLE MISS

  • great stuff, good to have it available here !

on another note : give Derek Trucks a couple of years more and he'll carry the torch, burning higher and brighter !

  • @gitmantube i second that!

  • that shit was ill

  • so sweet

  • Thanks for the notes - great info. Why was the film not sold in US?

  • Don't really know - Les Blank writes on his website that it's Ry Cooders decision.

  • @mbroders Is this song available to buy somewhere? Thanks

  • sensationell ! Great Work !

  • These guys have the Groove Bad, They Got Right into the Fatback of it..and Ry's guitar work is about as good as it gets...he really is phenomenal.....

  • has leo kotte and ry ever do any thing togther?

  • OUTSTANDING! Long live Ry!

  • Righteous.

  • jah bless the cooder

  • THAT IS THE BLUES SON!

  • soul.. I feel it all the way in toes

  • Phukken eh! Love that sssllliidde sound, Ry you da man, period.

  • Welcome to the church of rock n' soul!

  • ry cooder is the best slide guitar player ever!

  • Now this is real music, not that shit you see and hear every day on the tv and radio. The music nowadays doens't have a soul, it lacks passion and fire. This is pure music, real music, straight from the heart. As it should be.

  • @sdfg563....hahaha....you mean you don't think John Mayer is a blues man???? (I hope no one takes that seriously....or Mr. Mayer for that matter.....)

  • @sdfg563 ditto! ry cooder is awesome. they dont makem like that anymore

  • @sdfg563 I agree, and I was born in the 90's haha. New music is character less. No soul, no emotion, nothing.

  • That was fantastic!

  • Geat song, great voices ,great music Keep it on man. Bill

  • powerful vocals....

  • thanks i love ry cooder you have some great videos. 5 God bless.
