yes clear and to the point, but what is SQL for? i hear him say "servers" but I have some files to open that have a file Extension of .CUB and I was lead to SQL Server to open it with.
@skumrock -- the web site look and feel does change, which makes it hard to the videos current, especially if they've been linked to. Sorry its caused you headaches. Once you find the right install that has SQL Server Express 2008 R2 + Management Tools, you should find the rest of the video fairly accurate.
Can i install multi editions on a single machine?i had instaled sql 2008 enterprise edition which is woring fine with its default instance. Then i instaled 2005 express but it just installed the managemnt studio from an .EXE file and whenever i try to aces it it do not show any default instance nor it shows any in its BROWSE menu...
Then i installed MS Web Platform Installer which installed R2 installation centre but when i try to run the new installation of R2 it asks me to specify the location
Hey man i saw ur video< it was really nice, the only thing is that i followed ur video exactly d way u did it, but it is not showing me the SQL Server Management Studio
Do you know if this installation will work for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010? I am having a very hard time with installing the Dynamics software on my PC. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with 2 GB of RAM.
Sir can you give us a complete details or tools that clean all registry entries and files
associated with the server.... can find any good tutorial!!!!!!!!!! i dont know if i should by a thousand book just to uninstall a server its a nigthmare just unstalling when some error accure, its so hard to install lke new one
@ieL223, on the Start Menu in the search box, type "Management Studio". See if it finds it there somewhere that you missed. If not, click the "All Programs" link on the Start Menu and look for "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2". Is it under there? I know it's frustrating, but you could try uninstalling SQL Server 2008 from your machine and then reinstall, making sure you select the option "With Tools". There are other download options that don't say "With Tools", and you won't get SSMS with those.
@ravemania100, I see that the web page has changed for the link I'm going to. I'll have to consider creating an updated video. For this video, you'll have to select the database with tools option on the new page. I'm not yet going to make any Denali videos while it is in CTP. Thanks for pointing this out.
what happens for me is i check the box for License Terms then it goes to the set up support rules... shows the box that its processing or somethin like that.. then after that NOTHING happens what is goin on??
@kevsrikanth, the management tools is what you use to run queries, create tables, or do any other database tasks. There is an installation that does not have this feature. You have to download the version of the installation that includes the management tools. It appears in the start menu as SQL Server Management Studio. @0ElectroMad0, thanks, again!
Hi...your video is superb an helped me a lot to gain some knowledge reg installation.
But i have a small doubt...in my laptop when i tried to download, i did not see anything with Management Tools-Basic. What is the use of it? How can i get it.
@RastaBruh and @keeezz...Im not sure about the answers to these problems you are seeing. I recommend going the the MSDN forums for SQL Server and searching for similar problems from other users or posting your own question there.
@MrNoomiali...if you uncheck the management tools-basic but check the other options (Database Engine being the critical one), then you will have SQL Server installed and running. You just won't have the SQL Server Management Studio GUI tool for managing the database. So you'll have to create and access the databases in other ways (for example, programmatically with C# or some other language or another database tool).
hi sir will you please tell me if in feature selection page i uncheck the management tools-basic and other 3 checkboxes i check but not the management tools-basic then is it effect or me sql server 2008 r2 worked properly?

at server configuration im having the issue that it tells me i dont have the valid credentials, i googled around a little bit seems to be a common problem but i have not found a solution any help?
I have installed visual studio 2010(vs2010) with SQLserver express come with the (vs2010).
than, I have installed sqlserver 2008 R2 developer.
I can find the instance name in Configuration Manager and the service (MSSQLSERVER) is running, however, when I'm using VS2010 datasource explorer, I can only find the SQLexpress, not the MSSQLSERVER. How to solve this problem?
@KSR7777777 -- Hi. If you're using a paid version of Visual Studio, then the Server Explorer window allows you to add connections. In the server field, type the period symbol '.' without quotes and that gives you access to your default instance (MSSQLSERVER). But for VS 2010 Express, you only have the option of connecting to local SQL Server database files. You can programmatically connect to a database instance but not through the UI.
@learningsqlserver : thank you sir. Now the problem solved. Somehow I reinstalled and change the authorization access to "Local system" instead of "Local Service". and Try the "." as u suggested, it worked.
Hi. Thank you for the step-by-step instructions. Just a question, I'm planning to install this together with VS '08 on a machine running Windows 7 32-bit. Are there any compatibility issues?
@BlazefireSaber24 -- There should not be any problems on Windows 7, 32- bit (just make sure to choose the 32-bit installation). As for VS 08, it installs SQL Server Express (I think 2005), so that is a minor issue. It means that when you go to install 2008 R2, you either have to use a different named instance, like SQLEXPRESSR2. Or you have to uninstall SQL Server after VS 08 installs and before you try to install SQL Server 2008 R2.Then you can install R2 with the SQLEXPRESS named instance.
I am the dumbest guy, when it comes to installation..I had the windows 7 64 bit, comp...you walked me step by step through this video, and i got the clean connection upon installation .
I cant install it on my windows 7 (64bit) computer. The rule check says it needs to install Microsoft visual studio 2008 sp1 and they give me a link. And when i try to install that it says im not able to install it...
@LordOfKnights00 SQL Server 2008 does require SP1 for VS2008 to be installed when you have VS 2008 on your machine. There is s support article on the microsoft web site that covers this, but I can't link to it and have my commment go through for some reason. If you are having problems with the service pack, you could try researching your error message or posting it to the Visual Studio setup forum in the MSDN forums (again, can't give you a link and have my comment go through...sorry).
