This isn't real life it's a story made up -  from scratch - inside the filmmakers mind - he could have done a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g. If it were as you say - a true love story why did he separate them ? She is also separated from him when he slobbers on her by the filmmaker choosing to put her into ultimate removal - a coma. I don't necessarily question the film. It is what it is. I question the wholesale acceptance here in the comments section of sad, nerd, 'ruffy', tech love. But if you like it ...

It is interesting how you interpret him as a creepy man.

The description says its a man and he loves the woman. But you see it from a negative aspect. I see it as he is her husband and she had an accident of some sort. And the doctor allows her to let her mind wander for 10 minutes per day or something... And he tries to make her time as perfect as possible...

Besides being maudlin & pretentious, anyone with a semester in psych can see right through this. But you guys don't want to think - it's just too difficult. So you watch movies where the hero goes to save the princess and leave happy. But you never stop to think about all the guards, innocent bystanders that the hero killed along the way & the families & children they leave behind etc. All you do is project upon the hero and his goal & clap. Successful filmmakers know what the public wants.

So a creepy janitor / maintenance man is messing with patients minds that are under a doctors care, then sneaking in to their rooms - kissing them repeatedly while they are unconscious? The idea was so strong in the filmmakers mind that they spent countless hours bringing their unexamined fantasy to fruition. It is what it is folks - as Marshall McCluhan warned almost 40 years ago - ' the medium IS the message '. So you liked this movie huh? Well, if the shoe fits I guess.

I'm not surprised.

Personally, I found the film a bit hollow and trite. I guess when the creator is more fixated with the concept and the technology than the human story then something has to give. To me it felt as though the human participants were incidental - much like a love scene from a Lucas film.

And I found myself thinking this. The intent of the piece is to demonstrate a man's love & devotion to his partner? If she was conscious & could express herself then would she necessarily want her mind invaded & false memories implanted? Imagine the concept taken to it's furthest extent with a follow-up - a former lover, rejected and scorned creates a virtual private hell - perhaps artfully creating a warzone or a concentation camp down to the minutest detail from which she can never escape?
