There is something rotten to the core in James. He makes himself unhappy and takes it out on other people. And yet I think he knows he is at fault. Nowadays he might be diagnosed as bi-polar.
Britain has produced a long sequence of brunette beauties, like: Vivian Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Nicola Pagett who played Miss Lizzie in UpDownstairs, Lesley Anne Downs (Georgina), more recently Natalie Dormer. All exquisite women with extremely beautiful hypnotic eyes. When I was a boy in the 1970s, I spent many nights in my very "handy" imagination with those ladies. Dormer is about to be imagined, so that She will match the others.
All hell is ready to break loose in Europe. I noticed that it was 1914 from one of the letters (was it this episode or the last- don't remember). The June heat is definitely a metaphor for the tension that will break out once the storm hits. This is such an extraordinary drama. I cannot stop watching it. Thank you so much, Yorkie, for all your efforts in making this possible. I really enjoy reading the comments as well, I am in splendid company!
@justtheoneanne he is right tho.... Hazel was employed by Richard Bellamy.... so really she was more lower class than James..... just like Sarah.... you must look at the time
god georgina is so annoying, shes worse than elizabeth.

@wilhiamas I think the card game is a copy of Eugene O'Neil's symbolic game in Long Day's Journey Into Night.
