She's not using her real voice. Her "real" voice (register) is lower (MMC/Star Search). You can see this with her trying to make her voice higher (to match her studio vocals) but with movement, it's too hard. So it's not that she can't sing, it's just the register she's singing with in the studio (or the register they're making her use because it sounds more "pop") is too hard to reproduce live. So she has to resort to lip-syncing or back track.

Britney Spears is freaking awesome. Its is very hard and difficult to sing and dance simultaneously. That is often why she doesn't sing live when performing. Therefore I am very grateful when I ever do get to hear her sing live.

There are a few things everyone needs to remember about live singing. 1. If you're dancing, it's harder to get good breaths. without good, full breaths, it's harder to stay on pitch. 2. It really is very hard to hear yourself onstage sometimes, speaking from experience. Even with the monitors, you can't always hear how well in tune you are in time to fix it. 3. With big stars like this, they've probably had countless performances and rehearsals in the past few days. Her voice is no doubt tired.
@rymacofficial you have to admit her voice doesn't sound great here, she just sounds better on record. But what ever she lacked in vocal ability she compensated for it with her legendary performances... and this is not one of those performances.

Another possibility is that maybe she was singing along with a loud back-up tape. That's maybe why she didn't need to be on key for her live audience.
But too bad for her, if this is the case, the TV broadcaster chose to play her live voice louder over the tape. Either way, she usually doesn't go off key that badly. The other BOMT live performances (actually live ones) of the same era were at least acceptable.

There are a few things everyone needs to remember about live singing. 1. If you're dancing, it's harder to get good breaths. without good, full breaths, it's harder to stay on pitch. 2. It really is very hard to hear yourself onstage sometimes, speaking from experience. Even with the monitors, you can't always hear how well in tune you are in time to fix it. 3. With big stars like this, they've probably had countless performances and rehearsals in the past few days. Her voice is no doubt tired.

@rymacofficial you have to admit her voice doesn't sound great here, she just sounds better on record. But what ever she lacked in vocal ability she compensated for it with her legendary performances... and this is not one of those performances.

this is not her best performance, but it wasnt her worst either.
the singing isnt the greatest either, she has sounded better, but this sounds great with the fact she is actually doing quite a bit of dancing with her.

@BettyluvsPA I agree because her dancing would make it very hard for her to sing live, U have to admit, some people go to her concert for the show, not for the music. Their is no doubt in my mind that she could sing very good live, she really could im sure of it

@BettyluvsPA I just made a new acount, im formerly jgrocks, but i agree i think we are right, she is a great signer, and during parts that she where she isnt dancing as much, watch closley and u can see she is signing, i mean can u imagine trying to sing at a high level when dancing the way she does.

@BettyluvsPA i dont get it either, maybe she is trying to get back in the groove of things, i mean she hadnt preformed live for an extended amount of time, and she probley is somewhat out of shape, i have a feeling in time it will be just as outragous and amazing or even more so than before, it just takes some time to get back in the groove.

Another possibility is that maybe she was singing along with a loud back-up tape. That's maybe why she didn't need to be on key for her live audience.
But too bad for her, if this is the case, the TV broadcaster chose to play her live voice louder over the tape. Either way, she usually doesn't go off key that badly. The other BOMT live performances (actually live ones) of the same era were at least acceptable.
