I see there is a discussion why Elrond didn't stop Isildur from taking the ring. In the book he wasn't actually there when Isildur took the ring, he was by Gil-galad's side who was fatally wounded. By the way I think elves believe in faith and destiny and all that so Elrond probably didn't even feel that was his responsibility to take the ring by force!

Jackson was always very concerned to make clear to his audience the danger and evil of The Ring, so much so that he seems to repeatedly hit us over the head with it! That in turn makes Elrond allowing Isildur to walk away with the Ring seem strange to you.

The idea that anything that was done with the Ring would turn to evil was perceived only by The Wise.

If you speak of the average soldier in those armies, they probably comprehend the nature of the Ring even less. For all they knew, they were trying to defeat Sauron and as far as they could tell, Isildur killed him. They would have treated him as a hero. I doubt anyone would have demonstrated against him, much less take the Ring from him.
