Any car that can join a rally race, is a proper rally car .. however, I doubt that the new Mustang could compete against any of the current crop of WRC rally cars. They are just worlds apart.
That said, I would like to see a new class with RWD rally cars only.

@zoneracer Ford's not trying to advertise a rally car. This Mustang was given as part of a contest. The reason why Ford is contesting with a Ford Fiesta is because the WRC specs have changed. The WRC cars are based on 1.6 liter FWD cars (i.e. Ford Fiesta, Citroen DS3, Mini Countryman(can be purchased in AWD). Besides, if and only IF you wanted a 4WD Fiesta, then go to M-Sport and buy one. You can buy an official unused WRC Fiesta and used WRC Focuses.

Any car can rally. And I mean any. Look at the Mini in the 60's. Whether it'd be the winning formula is besides the point. That's the best thing about rallying compared to any other form of motorsport. I'm glad America caught on with the rally bug. Watching big ass American's steering a V8 muscle car on dirt roads is just....inspired.

You can´t have a fwd car as powerfull as a rwd because it would handle like a bull. That´s the reason why group b started having rwd cars.

Right now our power lvls have gotten so high most average out at 7-9 for v6- v8 engines, and even I4's

@Goncalgood Big I agree, but it's getting almost identical numbers in handling. The new mustang has noted to be close to m3 performance, with the m3 taking it through the slalom. Not necessarily restricted on the rpm limits, but the higher the RPM limits the less fuel efficient it becomes. Hence, they try to raise them as high as they can before that. If there weren't EPA standards you'd see all V8's revving as high as F1 engines.

Cars don´t rev much because you would need a much bigger research and much better materials on the engine to take the forces generated, and the engine would become stupidly expensive, not because of epa standards...Even the best engine tunners only get 10.000rpm or 11.000rpm of a regular engine, just above HALF of an F1's rpm limit... No engine will ever rev as an f1 engine, only if it IS an F1 engine.

That's what I'm telling you. name one company that is still currently making an affordable car revving in the 10s. hardly any. Rev limiters are used to protect the engine and to keep MPG at a certain level. Look at any High revving engine.. they consume as much gas as a standard V8..(s2000/Rx8)

Mustangs are good for straight line drags. Which where most of their owners drive them anyway. As soon as the road turns the stiff rear axle of the Mustang gives it some "interesting" handling characterstics.
I would leave those mustangs eating dust with my rally tuned 220hp toyota corolla gt 1600cc. I dont have so much power, but I can go more time flaout than this overweighted piece of american design.

@ganners09 Here in Finland we have rallysprint cars with over 500hp with 45mm inlet restrictor. Rules say that you are allowed to check stage by foot or bike and everyone does stage (2-8km) twice without co-driver. Its real do or die rallying with so much power and our fast flowing stages without help of co-driver. Only real men can do it.

@Texarmageddon And it does, wtcc uses fwd, rally uses fwd. Rwd is the best on the fun factor and on the race track (if you know what one is) where turns are made very gently. But on rally where you need quick reactions and easy turn of direction, fwd is better than rwd. Actualy the limit is the power.. You can´t have a fwd car as powerfull as a rwd because it would handle like a bull. That´s the reason why group b started having rwd cars.

@Goncalgood RWD drive cars are still used today because they provide a better 1. Balance. FWD cars are horrible in balance. Yet, they can be faster on the track. I think we can both agree that balance is important. Also, I think and if i might add again companies are restricted on rpm limits and try to squeeze out a high limit until they high epa standards. Right now our power lvls have gotten so high most average out at 7-9 for v6- v8 engines, and even I4's

@Goncalgood Big I agree, but it's getting almost identical numbers in handling. The new mustang has noted to be close to m3 performance, with the m3 taking it through the slalom. Not necessarily restricted on the rpm limits, but the higher the RPM limits the less fuel efficient it becomes. Hence, they try to raise them as high as they can before that. If there weren't EPA standards you'd see all V8's revving as high as F1 engines.

Cars don´t rev much because you would need a much bigger research and much better materials on the engine to take the forces generated, and the engine would become stupidly expensive, not because of epa standards...Even the best engine tunners only get 10.000rpm or 11.000rpm of a regular engine, just above HALF of an F1's rpm limit... No engine will ever rev as an f1 engine, only if it IS an F1 engine.

@Goncalgood Dude you can type that in and find that on almost every article. performance wise, the mustang gt holds very similar numbers to the M3. That's the point! That's what I'm telling you. name one company that is still currently making an affordable car revving in the 10s. hardly any. Rev limiters are used to protect the engine and to keep MPG at a certain level. Look at any High revving engine.. they consume as much gas as a standard V8..(s2000/Rx8)

Mustangs are good for straight line drags. Which where most of their owners drive them anyway. As soon as the road turns the stiff rear axle of the Mustang gives it some "interesting" handling characterstics.

@ganners09 Here in Finland we have rallysprint cars with over 500hp with 45mm inlet restrictor. Rules say that you are allowed to check stage by foot or bike and everyone does stage (2-8km) twice without co-driver. Its real do or die rallying with so much power and our fast flowing stages without help of co-driver. Only real men can do it.

Check user "duckrace" channel for one of fastest in special saloon category. "ugly duckling" evo colt is showing heels to others. Like I said before, the stang in the dirt is fine. Putting this car out in the baja is a complete and utter joke. A Stang keeping up with a Evo or STI? no, that ain't going to happen. Not in the Baja. Remember, Evo's and STI's are rally cars, they're sole purpose is to win rally events. The Stangs sole purpose is to win the drag.
Second, the Stang is to top heavy to even compete seriously in WRC, so lets not even extend this convo. That's like a TC with a v8 motor trying to compete....
