  • I suggest you buy WeatherTech floor mats. youtube won't allow me to type websites here but you can google it, just type weathertech floor mats and there you go. They are by far the BEST floor mats out there, they can customize floor mats and floor liners buy car's make model and year. Their mats are pretty expensive, but VERY nice though

  • Dont put mats in your car problem solved

  • I'm sorry to say that 'Drive By Wire' cars are the way things are going. In all fairness this technology should be more effecient than the old throttle cable type in that it won't suffer from a snapped cable or snagged cable. As with all new technology it's only really fully tested by the consumer (unknowingly) when purchasing a new car and if anything develops it's only then that a car manufacturer will consider options like repairs or in worse case a recall.

  • fagget

  • Whats the point of even having floor mats, we have floors in cars right?

  • DOES YOUR VIN NUMBER START WITH A J?

  • The problem is you have your floor mat too far up. Push it back some.

  • IMO Computers Control too much in cars these days,i think id rather have a mechanical connection between the Pedal and the Brakes,Accelerator ect, than an Electronic Controller.

  • Fatal floor mats, in these cars is the biggest damn lie I have ever heard, if it sticks, you look down and try to put your foot under the pedal to return it, no its not the floor mats their design is such you cant move the mat if you tried too. Thats like the guy who is sueing a on line game company, who says he is addicted and cant feed himself or dress himself or function cause all he can do is start his pc and log on and play!!! Someone spank this boys ass, stand him in the corner and no pc

  • Toyota is not a car it is a pot of sh''''''''''t

  • For fuck's sake you moron, use a bit of double sided velcro tape.

  • This could happen only in idiot-america. Recalling toyotas over floormats is like recalling cars to have their mirrors adjusted or ashtray emptied.

  • You have to press the START button to stop the engine.

  • Toyota, still the #1 car maker in the world...

  • the problem is, nothing is mechanical on cars anymore, the throttle pedal is like a potentiometer that tells a computer how much gas to feed the engine, even the brakes work that way. so you guys can do the math.

  • @itanimulli08 wow.. that's a stupid thing to say. the thing is, some cars do have a throttle-by-wire and it's a position sensor. not a potentiometer. brakes are still mechanical with a dual hydraulic system.

please learn some basic auto mechanics and stop feeding people garbage.

  • All of you floor mat crackheads are nuts if you think a floor mat will interfear with the brake pedal you dont need to be driving ! as for the gass pedal interfearance im not buying that one either ..i tried to hold the gas pedal down with the mat on my car with heavy factory mats and it dont work! the most i can come up with is a high idle, like 800rpm's with the car in gear wont even pull it over a small speed bump ...

  • Hey I own Chevrolet S10 and once in a while if you don't correct your floormats it may well happen with it too. It may happen with any vehicle. Just when you sit in there don;t be a pig and correct it.

  • OK CORRECTION DO NOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE!! WHILE ITS STILL IN MOTION THIS WILL CAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK UP AND LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE simply just put it in NEUTRAL thats the N between D and R [ P R "N" D 3 2 1 ] and after u came to a complete stop turn off the car by holding the start/stop button for ~3 seconds

  • hey retard!!! do you have any idea how system works..!? steering won't lock... do some research before you post any bullshit comment...!!! fucking amateur...

  • @udt0117 go fuck yourself you fucken idiot you do some research you dumb fuck highway and safety administration said so and many other toyota tech you do some reaserch fucken cunt

  • @Mpower330csl you can still turn off the ignition without causing the wheel to lock. put it into the position prior to start. you won't have power steering... but that's not a huge deal.

  • Is the all season mats in the recall not the carpet one.

  • lots of manufacturers use the same pedal design and have no floor mat issues. Lots of manufacturers have drive by wire and have no sudden acceleration issues. The problem is radio interference in the sub-standard sensor wiring. all toyota had to do was install brake safety override. they were out to save a few yen and have been covering this up for a decade. toyota is going down the toilet when this all gets out. jap gov't bailed toyota out last year for 200 billion yen. do your research.

  • Don't see a problem with those floor mats. It was a DBW electronic throttle issue from the beginning. I've had Honda, BMW and Nissan floormats get caught on the gas pedal. I fix and test drive a lot of cars. Toyota needs to get their stuff straight. I knew with DBW we would come to a point like this. It's hard to put your trust in electronics with delicate stuff like this..especially without an override system implemented.

  • @SW20FL

His floor mat was much LONGER than the one for the lexus

  • Thats what you get for buying japanese cars.

  • This is so not a floor mat issue. This is a cpu problem. The fact that computers actually drive your car for u makes me cringe. Toyota does need to fix all the computers and rethink their acceleration input design. But if I had a toyota I wouldn't trip on this. throw it in N and stop the car. If the engine and trans aint connected, the accelerator will not power the wheels, even if it powers the engine. If your too nervous to control your vehicle in ANY driving situation, stay off the road.

  • look at that foot pedal.... laying there... its obviously plotting. as if we don't know what hes up to.

  • dude i have an is350 and the weather floor mat tried scooting it up to the accelerator and it was harder trying to get it onto the accelerator than before hitting the break on it mine are the weatherproof lexus floor mats that cost 100+ dollars a piece and they don't slide even if you kick it...they are really thick and heavy.. if your going to blame computer.. i race on the mountains all the time and never experience anything sticking and i really abuse the accelerator and brakes

  • There's a wear flaw in the module. It's been replicated. We're all in danger because of all the Toyotas on the road, and they're all aging into that failure window. It needs to be replaced, but it won't be cheap for Toyota. I'm sure they're calculating the death lawsuits vs the recall costs.

  • @jerbiebarb im interested in where this replication is... there is no such thing as a program being "worn" i highly doubt its a computer problem... this is coming from experience as an engineer

  • ecu gliche not the floor mat or sticking pedal. a few cases already confirmed. Not the floor mat! all car company's are out for the buck/yen . the jap's are in the car biz to make the yen up front riding on the history of reliability. the big three boast buy USA and are in it for parts after the sale period. Toyota got 2 billion gov't yen's last year and have cutting quality for the yen for 10 years. why didn't toyota have a brake override safety system installed?

  • "ecu glitch...a few cases already confirmed"

    REALLY?!

Read Business Week's article "The Toyota Witch Hunt" for some honest balance. No cases of ECU or EDR problems have been confirmed from what I have read. The woman who testified on TV, Rhonda Smith, had TWO floor mats under her gas pedal. Please list your source.

  • "There's a wear flaw in the module. It's been replicated."

Really? If you mean "Dr. Gilbert's" ABC News piece you are mistaken. Toyota says he misled them with his data and ABC failed to tell viewers his work on the rigged test Toyota was paid for by an agency working for the trial lawyers suing Toyota. His data therefore are suspect.

  • I have the same problem for my 2009 Infiniti G35. The floormat keeps moving under the pedals.

  • @thefunkz Your Infiniti has an accelerator built from the ground up so there really isn't gonna be much of interference.

  • most of the floor mat problems are caused by people putting aftermarket floor mats over their stock ones because they dont want to get them dirty. guess what dumb ass thatsa what they are there for. i had a customer come in the other day complaining of a sticking pedal, well when i got into the car her floor mat was covering the gas pedal, hmmm ignorance, stupidity, and lack of common sense must be toyota's fault

  • i see em all day at my dealership.

  • It could also be due to the dirty cable that connects the pedal to the engine. If it's dirty, it will get stuck when you press the pedal since it doesn't return. Floormat problem...a possibility too. I got my pedal stuck because the floormat was shifted.

  • your stupid the new toyotas dont have cables..LOL...its a computer..

ANYWAYS,.,,thats the real problem its the computers..the floor mats where cover ups.

  • YOU ARE STUPID!

  • lol dumass ass people just hate on toyota

  • Toyota is very stupid denying this and blaming floor mats for problems on Lexus and Toyota Prius models because it doesn't want to pay for all the repairs and accept bad publicity. It will be more than 20 years before Toyota restores its reputation, if ever.

  • Nice car. Good example of the reason this all comes down to driver error. People not wanting to take the blame for their own inability to make sure the floor mat stays attached the way it was designed. I've seen clips on the news and they all have them unhooked from the safety attachments when they are "hanging".

Who's fault is it when the car runs out of gas?? Toyota's??? I guess so, if we apply the same standards of reasoning.

  • the floor mats arent causing the problems in the first place-youre drunk on toyotas kool-aid.

  • You hit the button for 3 seconds and hope it stops, then you wipe your butt.

  • @EZgoN2

Hold button for three seconds. Oh shit a traffic jam casued my seat to go up my ass because I couldn't stop in time.

  • WTF?toyotas are killing innocent americans and some how its a government conspiracy? i believe you dumbasses have your tinfoil cap on a little too tight.

  • Why turn the car off? turning the car off will make it harder to stop to a complete dead, i suggest putting the car in neutral and brake till full stop than turn the car off. (period)

  • sell me the car cheap and i'll glue the floor mat to the floor and problem solved

  • @HmongGuitarPlayer the floor mats wernt the problem

  • I mean, first of all, the fuckin parst was made by an American manufacturing company!! Its NOT MADE IN JAPAN!!! Its like MADE IN USA!! Damn it!! TOyota has to ask AMerican manufacturing companines to make some of their parts in order to evade trade conflict. But that eventually lead this problem.

  • Why is it that only Toyota is being attacked or criticized? What about Ford or the GOVERNMENT'S COMPANY GM? Are their cars all clear? without any kind of accidental problems???????Think about that!!!! When Toyota becomes number 1 in America, suddenly this kind of

national movement that was triggered by the media occurrs!! I feel government's oppression.

  • Apparently you don't remember the Ford/Firestone tire recall when the tires were exploding on the Explorers? Mostly do to underinflated tires though!

  • sweet car... if you're not comfortable with it, sell it to me :)

you'll have to accept below KBB price for it though because of all this Toyota recall fiasco!

  • The Electronic Control Module on 2001-2003 RAV 4 models are defective. But instead of uninteded accl. the computer tells the transmission to shift into the wrong gear and causes stalling. There are over 100 complaints filed with NHTSA for this problem alone, yet the government has not yet acted.

  • honda wins. every time.

  • Those are not the floor mats in question.

Anyway, just so people know, if you have this issue, quickly shift the vehicle into neutral, NOT PARK, and THEN apply the brakes.

  • If this is discovered to be a software glitch causing the over-run, chances are smark key request to turn off engine will also be ignored.

Even in a runaway situation with floor mat, smart Key requests (part of body control computer) could be ignored by the throttle control computer.

Easiest and definite method to kill ignition is to break connection from IGN1 output of computer to the ignition coils.

Simple SPST switch and no harm to vehicle if ever used...

  • Do you have SMART KEY.. there is no actual key to physically open a switch contact to kill power to the engine. Just a RFID pushbutton if event of floor mat or computer glitch.

Install a hidden under-dash toggle switch that kills power to the ingnition coil pack from the computer. Switch will disconnect the brown wire at terminal 106 (IGF1) of ECU.

If glitch software (or mat) is found to be causing this run-on problem, switch break of IFG1 will over-ride SMART KEY and safely kill engine.

  • the floor mat thing is just a cover and investigaters are saying it could be something electrical

  • @latino914

Yea, That is why they are stopping production and sale of certain Toyota models. Something to do with the throttle by wire system I think. Definitely not the floor mat though.

  • the Lexus dealership didnt find the problem i did it on my own by reading an article on popular mechanics about brake cables on bicycles and how to clean them. I live on New England so there is salt on the road during winter so somehow the dust n salt get to the throttle assy building up right on the entrance of the cable causing it to get stuck. I clean the engine bay twice a year now to prevent dust. No problems ever since.

  • I had the same problem on my 2001 IS300 the gas pedal would get stuck at certain speed or position. the floor mat hook was broken and the flloor mat would get pushed forward but still didnt interfere with the pedal. the problem was that there was dust and debris gettin in the throttle cable causing it to get stuck.

  • Ohh here we go with the propaganda and hate spreading idiots. Let me say from personal experience that we have a 1994 Toyota Corolla with over 280k on it and it runs beautifully, didn't ever need much in terms of maintainence or repairs. Very satisfied with Toyota. That being said Toyota should admit a few quality issues such as panel gaps and the mat problem and solve the issue but I think regular customers must also take responsibility on how to hook in mats and drive properly.

  • I don't see a damn thing wrong with this Lexus. What sucks is that people are going to use this as an excuse for what is really their lack of education and poor driving skills.

Its things like this that reminds me of the days of the Audi 5000 when idiots mistook the accel. pedal for the brakes.

I'm willing to bet that it is a)women and b)retard drivers who have crashed so far and are just whoring this whole recall situation to cover up what is wrong with the driver themselves.

  • 1994?

That has nothing to do with the current issue.

  • @7477238 old toyotas dont use electrical systems tat was the REAL problem. they used carburattors

  • similiar problem happened on my Mazda 6. I had to scoop the accelerator out with my right foot while I tapped the brakes with my left doing 70 on the motorway. A little scary but not a big deal I thought. It's scary that the Lexus ECU won't let you put the brakes on or shift into neutral at high speeds.

  • @zawlinmoe I've owned several toyota products, and have never had a problem with my mats. When I clean my car, I use the hooks that are provided. Your comment that you can't apply the brakes at high speeds or put the transmission in neutral is a complete fabrication.

  • Comment removed

  • fair enough but i'm only reflecting what I have heard from others. have you tried to put it in neutral at 120mph in your Lexus?

  • The problem is more than just a floor mat issue.

  • I'm with Heretic000X, Toyota corporation has censored many issues, and blamed their customers(that's how they repay the mindless loyalty of their fans to their heartless corporation). I have friends who are environmentalists, and they fell for the Toyota ads and thought that Toyota was different, I told them of a story on frontline about Toyota's environmental crimes, and it was like they were brainwashed or something; they looked at me blankly, and ignored me. Toyota quickly censored the media.

  • @furiousgeorge1271

Absolutely! Toyota has censored the information about its engine oil sludge problem. Toyota has made sure that we depend on foreign oil resources for quite some time. Too, it is doing great work in polluting the air as its vehicle accumulate sludge far too early in the vehicle's life. Toyota deceiving the public? YUP...that's what plenty of Toyota owners are saying!

  • Todays LA TImes 12/23/2009 full frontpage article on how aggressively Toyota has been covering up manufacturing and safety defects. If an American car company had been pulling the crap Toyota has their CEO's would have been stoned to death on wallstreet and rightly so. But since it's Toyota I'm sure they'll just geta little slap on the wrist be sent on their merry way.

  • everyone is stupid and all car companies all suck on their own way. One, America needs to teach people how to drive and how a car works before they give a stupid person the right to drive. In the US any idiot can get a drivers silence. Its a cruel thing to say, population control for stupid people including myself.

  • Yep totally agree! Although I wouldn't call the people stupid... the better word is SIMPLE MINDED !

The simple minded Idiots are growing family and you can't do anything about that! Otherwise how on earth you can explain the fact that we are all over the world stealing other nations wealth, and still have tons of debt to the banks!

We are a rich country... but all the wealth is in the hands of very few!

Marry Christmas to all from the land of Simple Minded Idiots!

  • What's a "drivers silence".

  • @MiyagiDoKarate Miyagi wax off!

...just kidding, I think too many people rely on spell check.

  • I don't think spell check would have helped you in this case.

  • Yeah! Toyota sucks monkey balls! Toyota has been fooling everyone into believing on it's reliability by covering up the truth. The floor mats are not the problem, it's just an excuse to blame the manufacturer and divert the attention of all you people who think Toyota is so great. Open your eyes!!

  • There's a problem with the computer in the toyota and lexus cars.. They are just using the floormat excuse to cover their own asses. People have had the same problem without floormats at all.

  • just buy a 335i better or benz c350

  • you joking, they are way more expensive and yes they are better but out of budget, i went for G37S, its good as the 335i and cheaper

  • Aftermarket allseason floormats like they sale at Wally world caused this accident and the recall is just a safety precaution you stupid people. Stop all the aftermarket nonsense and make the road a safer place.

  • There is NO WAY IN HELL that floor mat will hold the pedal....

  • It's not the floor mats. in fact it has absolutely nothing to do with the PEDAL!!! It's the electronic fucking throttle AKAA "FLY BY WIRE" system that is the problem. if they had stuck with the olf fashioned cable system this would not be any problem!!! I'm speaking of this because I'm a tow truck driver/mechanic and I've seen this a few times.

  • YOU ARE SO DAM RIGHT MAN...ITS FUNNY..I TOW UNDER CONTRACT FOR A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ...and this recall over a floor mat is just a way for toyota not to shake consumer confidence ..and at the same time try to figure out something to do ...this was going on for a while with toyotas ..and toyota knew all about this a few years back ...all in all...toyota's suck ass ..and toyota hides behind its reputation ..well its rep really sucks anymore ...I BUY AND SUPPORT AMERICANS

  • one that pissed me off was a guy had one where the pedal "stuck" so he tried the neutral and turn the ignition off etc... those failed, do he at least ditched the car. well the car still started, so I figured i could assist the winch and the car didnt have the balls to spin the tires on loose dirt.

  • sweet video man....

  • its not the mats, cuz i've heard people without mats in their toyota that has these problems.. poeples pedal are getting stuck and toyota is trying to save some money by sayin that its the mats.. and on the Lexus ES you cant even put it on neutral while the is in motion.. toyota is are death machine

  • why did you make this video???????????

as long as your mats are cliped down with the OEM clips they are safe as long as you only have the OEM mat then your safe. and come on that trooper that dead no offense why didnt he shut the car down ? police do EVOC things dont add up ? AND IM NOT OFFENING THE OFFICER MAY HE REST IN PEICE BUT COME ON THING ABOUT IT

  • I completely agree with u!!! I mean, I am really sorry to hear about that CHP officer and his family, but he is trained on evasive driving!!! Common sense should have kicked in and told him not to pump on the brakes because reports did find that discs and calipers were burnt! In these types of emergency situations u step on the brake pedal, drop the car in neutral and come to a stop....cmon people!!!

  • the car he was driving has push button ignition, as long as the key is in the vehicle it starts at the push of button and there isnt an off switch. the car has a safety device that doesnt allow shifting into park/neutral while accelerating to protect the transmission/engine from damage. on the 911 call he specifcally states the brakes had quit working, witnesses said his wheels were on fire a sure sign he had overheated his brakes. these people died and its toyotas fault

  • That is the most stupid thing ive ever seen. no offense to you smilemt1. im talking about the stupid recall. once you push the pedal the floor mat will go back down on the ground anyways.
