  • Wat is dit mooi.......

  • When I listen to music like this and then think about the kind of nonsense so many people listen to nowadays I am filled with a great sadness. I hope that we don't completely forsake the splendor of culture and talent.

  • @IvanKoleshnikov I assure you that back in 1882 there were people like you saying this modern Delibes crap was an insult to the real music of earlier centuries. Live and let live.

  • The most beautiful piece of music in the world sung by the two of the most beautiful ladies in the world. Forget the world news and your own problems.....is anything really that bad if you have the ears and eyes to see and hear this?! Give the wine, the women and the song everytime! x

  • Vooral even luisteren.Prachtig.

  • beauty beyond belief......

  • You Make me Love Life. It is worth Living and Listening to your great Voice

  • MI parte favorita es apartir del min: 1:21 <3 , muy emotiva

  • I have absolutely no knowledge about opera, but I must say that I love to listen to this song before I go to bed :)

  • yes singing french is different in pronounciation. You prolongue the endings. The same you dont have to pronounce the french "r" while you are on stage.

  • I have to laugh at these comments about their ability to pronounce French. Depending on where you are in France the locals don't know how to pronounce it according to a local in another part of the country. English as spoken throughout England is a perfect example. No one complains that a French woman speaks English incorrectly...hahaha After all "Why can't the English speak English?-The American's haven't been speaking it for years" hahaha.

  • All this talk about her being or not being a skilled singer is pointless based on the fact that she is obviously performing regularly at very respected venues all around the world and has been for several years.....unskilled persons don't get longevity in opera. I may have a personal opinion on what I think is good but it is often different from my professional opinion. Nearly all of you who have disliked obviously don't have a real professional opinion regardless of you're personal one.

  • One of these 'flowers' has been sitting in a particularly sunny part of the garden.

  • Their French is pretty bad.

  • @blazers1987

    Who cares?

  • Madrigal! *****

  • C'est tellement belle.... Je l'aime!

    ^_^

  • Eccellent! Thanks for sharing!

  • Oh my god the soprano is so bad. Not at singing, at the pronounciation. URGH

  • URGHHHHHHHHHHHH. AND You're not supposed to say 'Jettent' like Jet-on. URGHHHHHHH

  • @MissILoveMusic44 Regarding French pronunciation in singing, the French will pronounce syllables that they wouldn't in conversation, in order to make it scan. So 'Je mange' will sound like 'Je mange-eux' if it needs to fit in. Take 'C'est l'heure solenelle' in 'Minuit Chrétiens; it is pronounced 'solenelle-eux'. 'Listen to any French pop (if you feel masochistic) and you'll find many examples. But I'd avoid French pop if I were you. It's shit-eux.

  • URGHHHHHHHHHHHH. It's "VIEUX Mallika".

  • @MissILoveMusic44 No, it's "VIEN, Malika".

    "

  • Respond to this video... Oh...she does call her "old Malika" doesn't she? Ha...sorry.

  • @tamerlano She's saying, "Look Mallika"

  • @MissILoveMusic44 she's saying "Come, Malika".

  • this one seems sad compared to the others on ytube.

  • This is the definitve version of the Flower Duet. It can not be performed any better.

  • Excellent!

  • beyond words, beautiful...

  • angry mezzo!

  • WOW

  • Hermoso, sencillamente hermoso...

  • "Rough translation" Under the dense canopy Where the white jasmine Blends with the rose On the flowering bank Laughing at the morning Come, let us drift down together Let usgently glide along With the enchanting flow Of the fleeing current On the rippling surface With a lazy hand Let us reach the shore Where the source sleeps And the bird sings Under the dense canopy Under the white jasmine Let us drift down together.....

  • they killed the song , ignore this version and look for better prestations

  • i cried

  • fking awsome!

  • Beautiful voices but it's a shame they don't seem to understand and really feel what they're singing. They clearly distort the words french pronunciation and in sum the aria loses much of it's true inner strength.

If you'd like to corroborate, watch Tuva Semmingsen and Inger Dam-Jensen's duet. The difference is unmistakable.

  • The version of Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca is way better than this because they sang with their hearts... and they have a connection.

  • Outstanding.

  • The most beautiful duet.

  • its so beautiful. i dont know whether to cry or barf

  • @Octopop2010 Barf? Really. Did Wayne and Garth call?

  • this si the best flower duet i have seen. i like charlotte church' s performance with herself but she took liberties and deviated from the original score to make it easier for herself . but i suppose that is artistic licence but these ladies true veterans and professionals kudos kudos kudos. esp showing they can make the original score come to life.

  • It's good to hear miss Miklosa singing something else than the queen of the night^^

  • Perfect :)

  • Okay, I know the basic story of this song...but what's the whole opera about? I've heard the song so many times before, and I love it, but I'd like to know the plotline behind it.

  • @PinkorpseForever lakme and a biritsh officer fall in love, hes reminded of his duty to the regiment, leaves lakme for his fiancee, has second thoughts, goes back to lakme at the last second only to find her dead by her own hand...its a crap explaination with a lot more detail but not enough space :)

  • @PinkorpseForever Try going on wikipedia. I just looked and it had a synopsis of the opera and history facts about it. That's what I do for every opera I want to know more about.

  • Este duo aria es una de las mas hermosas que han sido escrita en el mundo de la Opera, el frances no es muy bueno, pero eso no importa frente a la belleza de la musica y canto que estamos escuchando.

  • 1:27 - 1:33

    OMG....

Take me away from here, Beautiful Angels <3

  • Fantastic!

  • The pedals fell off the flower for 80 people sigh

  • Gorgeous :)

  • Their french is horrible.

  • Sooo... What are they singing about?

I've heard this song before but I just watch "Carlito's Way" for the first time and during the scene where Carlito is standing on the roof watching his GF's ballet practice they start playing this song.

  • I`d shag Erika but not Bernadett

  • i think that 114 people are idiot becausethink that if someone has a different opinion is an idiot!!! -.-"

  • The beauty of this makes tears stream down my cheeks. Just spectacular.

  • Me encanta

  • Un enchantement

  • wonderful, just wonderfully gloriously beautiful performance

  • Glorious!

  • I love this, truly love, love love this. Absolute perfectiolln. When I'm sad, happy, indifferent, this piece of music never fails to heal me or put the cherry on my cake. This is the best version I have ever heard. When I die, i want it played at my funeral, ( not that i'm planning on dying anytime soon! ) but you get the general idea, thank you x

  • The Gods have spoken and they all agree that this music will inspire us to all make better desions!!!

  • the only thing that would make this better is if Chairman Mao sang it in traditional chinese while finning a shark and oppressing protestors

  • Theres's no words in Ent language, Elvish or Human that can describe the beauty of this song. Just perfect!!!

  • This is better than any rap ive ever listened too.

  • la diction est nulle....mais les* voix si bien ensemble et belles que cet air célèbre est sublime dans sa musicalité !!!

    Merci beaucoup

  • is that fucking minnie driver?

  • @silowhore lol

and some people say swearing "isnt necessary"

    bunch of cunts

  • @silowhore . . . it is sad to see such ignorance . . .

  • magnificent ..stupendous heavenly voices oh why oh why do i sound like a frog when i sing [cos im not a frog friends]

  • magnificent ..stupendous voices from heaven

  • As Frenchman, I have to say that no word is comprehensible. But that is absolutely not important when it is sung with such voices! A moment of pure pleasure. To hear such a wonder is too rare. Hearing it on Youtube does not offer the same sound quality as it would be in concert, but waow!

  • It was so beautiful and I'm 12 years old. I love opera and want to be an opera singer when I grow up

  • My choir's doing this . . . yikes! We don't even come close!

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • Disappointing. Please folks, do a search and listen to Joan Sutherland sing this song. No one can compare. The all sound mediocre.

  • The chick in pink sings sublimely! The cougar singing with her ain't bad at all either!

  • it's a pity the bad sound quality...

  • Did they make some mistakes at 4:52?

But nevertheless it was a VERY BEAUTIFUL performance... such a match!!!

  • This is great! I looked this up because I am singing this for the first time with someone and I hadn't heard it before. Bravo!!

-But I do agree with "thatsthrashmetal" that sometimes the vibrato is too much. I think that right at the end is the perfect vibrato for the song throughout.

  • 63 people listen to too much trash.

  • I've always loved this song!!! :D

  • two voices from heaven battling together in perfect sync.

    absolutly sublime!

  • Hearing this made me ecstatic. Endorphines roaming, my mind and body are going into some sort of unexplainable bliss :)

  • they are perfectly in tune, and somehow managed to sync their vibrato perfectly. however, its horrible vibrato. way too bouncy, you lose the note almost completely.

  • Audio quality notwithstanding, every time I hear this luscious piece of music, it sends chills up my spine. Two heavenly voices. Gorgeous.

  • I don't like the poor audio quality. Too loud, which causes clipping, which is extremely distracting, and kills the mood.

  • Miklósa Erika nagyon ott van... :)

Asunlight17 - csináld jobban te kis pöcs.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=0JzrqVkyRbM

    So much way better!

  • Beautifull

  • I like this aria. but this singers... killed it completely. The orchestra is playing too fast!

I prefer Elina and Anna's version! now that's a very good performance for this aria.

  • con esa voz curan el mal del mundo

  • Simply riveting!!! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Wonderful match and voices!!!

  • Uplifting! More beautiful than even the Curlew's song.

  • Beautiful, it's like listening to angels.

  • @UrienRheged I get a tear in my eyes every time i listen to this

  • It's beautiful, but sounds rushed. I prefer to hear it sung a little more slowly. Nonetheless, this duet is an amazing human achievement even when performed badly.

  • =') Beautiful... How can humans do such thing like this?! Wow!

  • =') Beautiful... How humans can do this?! Wow!

  • Bliss

  • They couldn't look any more different or sound any better together

  • Truly, music tames the savage beast.

Listening to this switches my brain into neutral. Flawlessly beautiful!

  • Erika nagyon ugyes es gyonyoru a hangja. Nem szeretem az operat de tole meg azt is szivesen hallgatom.

  • So.. How can you "dislike" this video?

    Scenario #1

You don't like opera, yet you watched an opera on youtube and therefore disliked. You are an idiot.

    Scenario #2

You like opera but didn't like this particular, incontrovertibly amazing performance. You are an idiot who knows nothing of opera.

By deductive logic, if you click(ed) the dislike button, you are an idiot. Congratulations.

  • @NeftaliPR

How can such sweet music be the muse for such a sour comment? Maybe they heard the intro on the BA advert, wanted to hear the whole piece and disliked it. Maybe they found Erika Miklosa's rawboned appearance unpleasing to the eye. Everyone is entitled to their opinion; yours is idiotic. Congratulations.

  • @blaineyboots How I wished I had her rawboned appearance. It's hard to make it in the world of Opera if you are a bit plump.

  • @NeftaliPR

well first i like this but that said i can get why people dont like it even if they like opera everybody has his own taste and that is something beautifull.

what you are saying is that everybody that doesnt like the same thing as you is an idiot i think thats a rather stupid statement.

also you say that there are only two scenerios that is also not very smart , there can be lots of reasons why people are here and didnt like it

  • @NeftaliPR i dislike this version but i don't thinkt hat i'm an idiot!!!everybody has an opinion different so i don't like absolutely this version because i dislike in every way erika miklosa...i don't like her way to sing...i don't like her vibrato...i have a different opinion...but i don't think that you are an idiot!!! (i'm not english...sorry if i had make mistakes!!!)

  • @NeftaliPR

    This is sound logic.

  • @NeftaliPR You seem upset.

  • @NeftaliPR Don't confuse taste with intelligence. Just because someone doesn't like the music you like doesn't mean that person lacks mental dexterity or refinement. Your smugness doesn't make you appear professorial or erudite but rather petty and unhinged.

  • @NeftaliPR haahaa this made my day- shows what a rubbih day i had :) loool i am 14 and usually just listen to pop music butthanks to this piece i now love opera :D <3 xxx

  • @NeftaliPR that is brilliant...you are funny...

the ironic part is that I am not a big fan of opera myself...but this is one of the most amazing examples of vocal talent ever performed. These women are phenomenal to say the least. I get goose bumps at 1:22 all the way to 2:08, I mean, how can you not...

  • @NeftaliPR every1 is entitled 2 their own opinion you shouldn't judge anyone based on the fact they disliked a song ..its childish -_-

  • @NeftaliPR it was 4 an assignment we had no choice

    very easy 2 dislike btw

  • @NeftaliPR lol..true man so true

  • @NeftaliPR

I totally agree, but you forgot about...

    Scenario #3

You have never heard the words "Lakmé" and/or "Flower Duet" (and thus most likely the word opera as well) before and watched this video because you thought a video, that obviously must be about two flowers singing a duet, would be either hilarious or awesome.

Oh, and if that's the case, I'm pretty sure that makes you an idiot, too.

  • @NeftaliPR

    I can simply this further......

Scenario 1 thru 100, you clicked dislike.... you are an idiot.

  • It's amazing what a vast universe of hydrogen and the laws of physics can do if left for 14 billon years. This is pure beauty. Goosebumps every time.

  • @ ssimmons0602 - hahaha, so true...In my head it's easy to defend the english language, but in reality, theres no point is standing up for a bastard, other-language-raping dialect that is constantly changing due to immigrants, blacks, and red neck americans...

  • @plopk so what was the point of your idiotic comment?

  • This is my favorite interpretation of the famed Flower Duet. Miklosa and Wiedemann sound lovely together.

  • It's not often I find a sequence of notes that can evoke a lump in my throat.

  • I know that this is sung in french, but what are the lyric's...by that I mean...in english, what the fuck are they saying....? !? ! ? !? !? ?! ?!! ?!...I hate the french for what they did to the english language, but if this were sung in any other language, it wouldnt sound anywhere as ethereal and serene...

  • @plopk you should be aware that american english came from french and german origin, french, german, latin are some languages that came before american english

  • @kapitanmike - I am very aware of what french occupation in england did to the early germanic english language...and this is why I wrote what I wrote...in summary... fuck the french for defacing the english language..

  • @plopk You have a rather odd concept of the origins of the English language.

"The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary." James D. Nicoll

  • @ssimmons0602 Well said.

  • i used to be dragged to operas just to support my mom. when i saw Lakme for the the first time, I finally began to love it.

  • sublime

  • beautiful.........a

  • two birds flying towards the ocean in bliss is what I picture.

  • Well, their timbres match well. But watching Erika Miklosa with all that facial tension- I mean, her whole face! Not just her jaw and neck- makes me cringe. If she always sings like that she's going to end up with some serious vocal problems later on. (All those muscles affect one another and any tension in the head-neck-shoulders area is usually indicative of vocal tension) Just check out how she has to enunciate each note with her jaw in 5:32-5:37! On the other hand, Wiedemann does beautifully

  • @MissLauraSoprano She is using her "facial mask" muscles to module the voice exactly like she wants. Alfredo Kraus used this technique and he sings amazingly until at advanced age.

  • This makes me want to weep from joy.

  • Már kb egy órája hallgatom és csak most vettem észre, hogy Duna TV! :)

  • The one on the pink dress seems like sleeping beauty's voice... it is beutifully performed, but I think the "beat" is way too fast, does not sounds like a walk over the garden, more like a chase lol. Sorry, it is great but too fast.

  • Beautiful. Enough said.

  • Say yes! if the new Ghirardelli Ad brought you here.

  • at 0:19 Durp!!!

  • 4:03 - 4:15, this part is done better than any other duo, in my opinion.

  • Que brutas!!! Excelente!!! Me encanta!!!

  • Absolutely beautiful, performed to perfection.

  • Geweldig tweetal met uitzonderlijke stemmen.

  • This song, as song by these two, makes me just warm and funny inside. They produced some of the most angelic sounds I've ever heard in my entire life.

I think I could have the worst day of my life at work, come to my PC, turn this video on, and become completely content with the rest of my day. It's just that soothing and beautiful.

  • @Friday1970: I've never heard a sound produced by an angel, what does it sound like?

  • @Friday1970 -It gives you hope. Can you imagine a human being wrote this? Can you imagine him writing the music and lyrics?.... Those parts of this song that are transcendent. Can you imagine that?

  • TOTALLY DIFFERENT and SO MUCH BETTER PRESENTATION THAN ANNA NETREBKO & E.GARANCA HAVE!!!

BERNADETT & ERIKA MAKE MUSIC NOT ONLY SINGING AS THE OTHER STARS!!!

BERNADETT WIEDERMANN & ERIKA MIKLÓSA ARE HUNGARIANS, THEY FEEL THE MUSIC and REALLY MAKE IT AS WE STUDIED.

NO SCREAMING, WHAT UNFORTUNATELY A.NETREBKO DID WITH E.GARANCA IN BADEN-BADEN, 2007.

    BUT IT IS M U S I C HERE

    and SINGING IN DELIBES'STYLE!

JUST SIMPLY HEAVENLY AS THIS MUSIC HAS TO BE.

  • Erika Miklosa is hot

  • Gyönyörű harmónia.

  • This is so beautiful, there are no words to describe it.

  • My God amazing voices

  • This is one of the most perfectly beautiful things created by humanity...it gives me chills every time I hear it.

  • meraviglioso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Also, just because you speak the language doesn't mean anything. There are a lot of nuances in a language that are different when singing. For example, in classical french singing, the r is actually rolled, while in cabaret or contemporary music, it's formed from the back of the mouth.

  • Erika Miklosa is AMAZING!!!

  • sublime magnifique quoi dire de plus formidable !!! deux voix qui de concontre et voila le resultat!!!!

  • sublime magnifique quoi dire de plus formidable

  • The best humanity has to offer I hope it lives on for generations and generation.

  • Simply beautiful. I love it.

  • I'm french. The absolute beauty of their interpretation is marred not at all by their slight mispronunciations and lack of a correct R. This is beautiful and nothing can change that.

  • wow amazing how such a huge voice can come out of that small body!

  • Wow ! I Love it !!

  • This is so ridiculous. Miklosa SMILES when she sings : I tremble with dismay. she did the same thing with the queen of the night...

  • @PatateRoussoiste

I think that there is a difference between an execution "in concert" and the perfomance "on scene"... maybe xD

  • absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!

  • Ok, this is scary. I can understand that hungarians or others cannot speak french perfectly but really this is @“Ç!#Ç# !!!

    The original one :

"Viens Malika, les lianes en fleurs jettent déjà leurs ombres sur le ruisseau sacré, qui coule, calme et sombre, éveillé par le chant des oiseaux tapageurs"

    The Miklosa one :

"Viens Malika, les lianées en fleurs jetant déjà leur obres sur le russeh sâcré, qui coule, khâlmoésombre, éveillé par le chant des vieuosiô tapageurs"

    Good voices anyway.

  • Well, the "R" doesn't chock me when I hear the other singers sing this song so I guess there is something wrong with their "R" otherwise I wouldn't have spoken about that. Again, if you aren't french or if you don't speak french, you can't feel what's wrong in their pronounciation... Obviously.

  • Everything would be perfect if they were not pronoucing french badly. "L'oiseau chante" broke everything lol (made me laugh) and the "R" like in intalian... Yes when you are french it really sounds weird. I guess that for the others it's just very beautiful :)

  • @Abneverivelz Are you aware that most classical singing teachers outside of France tell you to sing French without the French R? You can't sing on that sound, just like you can't sing on any consonants, that's why opera has such elongated vowels because the vowels are the ones that carry out the sound.
