This is TELEVISION! How fortunate those of us 50 years of age and older are to have experienced pure talent. HDTV was not necessary then, nor was Chyron, CGI, or any other video graphics generation formats. Great television was about people, the scores who where required to produce shows then contributed ideas, technique, and quality that cannot be duplicated electronically. Three networks of outstanding programming then, versus 300 channels of crap now! God, please send me back to the '60s!
A wonderful TV experience. God Bless Bing Crosby, to have the cast of Hogan's Heroes on his Christmas show. Most excellent! (okay...he was their boss...HH's was a Bing Crosby Production after all) and let them sing in a variety of their OWN original languages; which was way cool for Der Bingle. Inclusive, family friendly & entertaining music and showmanship abound. Thanks for posting this heart warming video. Peace. bear.
...I can almost smell the pine needles warming up where they are in contact with the C-7 Christmas lights, filling the room with fragrance. I can see the lights in color, and I can see my grandparents' old glass ornaments hanging from the branches.
There is some kind of life or vitality that has been driven from America in the intervening years. I miss the Good America.
For a man who lost all of his relatives in the holocost of Nazi Germany, John Banner never held a grudge. He was never bitter about it although we all know that the pain of the loss of his entire family no doubt contributed to the shortening of this amazing man's life. His character and maturity truely embodies the true spirti of Christmas; one of forgiveness and redemption. This man can certainly teach us all something about humility. God's speed Sgt. Schultz......and to all, a good night.
It's kind of become an annual tradition for me to watch these two clips. After all, it is the closest thing we get to a Christmas episode of Hogan's Heroes. It seems like at Stalag 13 it's always winter and never Christmas. Maybe Jadis was dating Hitler or something.
I have all six seasons of Hogans Heroes on DVD. Since most of todays television shows s*ck, I usually pop in a few episodes almost every night to unwind and relax. There are very few shows that still teach morals / values / care for your fellow human. Two such shows, that did just this, were MASH & Star Trek (Any of the five series).
@ThePhantom359 We have all six seasons of Hogans heroes and its my favorite show of all. We have some Star Trek, and lots of other shows tht r awesome only becuze they r old shows not the new crap.
What a beautiful clip of Werner and John singing that wonderful, famous carol in the original language in which the song was written. Both men seem to be endearingly charming gentlemen, blessed with great humility and goodwill to others. God bless them, wherever they are now .. on whatever dimension & plane of existence that may be. We could all take a lesson in humility & good grace & kind-heartedness from these 2 wonderful men - Werner Klemperer and John Banner.
What makes that song even more beautiful to me is the fact that the two men singing it were Jewish. It's just so fitting to have Jesus' own people singing a song celebrating His birth. They have more right to do so than we do.
actually werner klemperer and his family fled the nazis because they were jewish. robert clary as i see it hates God, but i couldnt blame him. if my family was religious and they all died in the holocaust, im sure anyone would hate God. robert is still a great man tho
LeBeau is my favorite Hogan's Heroes character, and when I learned more about the actor, he became an even bigger favorite of mine. I can't help but feel sorry for him, though, losing his faith like that. Since he's a Jew, his very identity is wrapped up in God. If only there were a way to rope him into having a conversation with Michael Wurmbrand....Clary may or may not resent it at first, but I think it would be good for him.
Well...Klink isn't technically a Nazi, and Schultz is decidedly non-partisan.
Besides, Nazis who sing Christmas carols contradict themselves. They preach hatred for Jews, then turn around and start singing birthday songs to the most famous Jew in history. Can we say, "hypocrite"?
Again, you're confusing me. To which history are you referring?
Christmas is considered the birthday of Christ, is it not? Hence the CHRISTmas. Christmas carols are essentially birthday songs then, are they not? Was Jesus not born a Jew? Therefore, Christmas carols are birthday songs to a Jew, and Nazis who sing them are hypocrites.
@AtarahDerek It was against the honor code of Imperial Germany and against the law in after 1919 for any army officer in Germany to be a member of any party.
I agree , its when Talent was on tv.Also happy shows that brought you up instead of down.We didnt have to appologize for celebrating Christmas. There is no more talent just vulgar garbage, that's why our society is like it is.I wish RTN would show this stuff to a new generation. They dont know how good tv was.
Robert Clary's singing an old French carol, "Il est ne' le Divin Enfant" or as it's usually translated, "Now is Born the Divine Christ Child" The ironic thing is, both Werner Klemperer and Robert Clary were Jewish. Apparently, back then, people were less uptight about political correctness and were able to see past religious differences and just have a good time at Christmas.
I think Werner Klemperer was raised in a Judeo-Christian environment, rather than being exclusively Jewish. Not sure about John Banner. Robert Clary was, at least for a time (I have no idea where he stands now), an agnostic bitter at God over the Holocaust. But you're probably right about political correctness back then. It wasn't considered offensive to say "Merry Christmas," even to a Muslim or Jehovah's Witness.
Banner was a jew, too, as was most of the actors who played Germans on HH.
I might also add, all these people in question were jews from Europe, from a much different time. they were gentelmen and respected each other, they are not jews cut from the clothe of the zionists we see so much of today here in the US.
This originally aired on December 25, 1965, 'jmen', as part of Crosby's annual "Christmas Show" on the "PALACE". And because his production company was responsible for "HOGAN'S HEROES", Bing insisted the cast be invited as his guest stars, despite any objections ABC may have had...
Here..we see the cast of"Hogan's Heroes"in a way that we've never seen them before..as a singing choir performing Christmas tune.

This one was ABC-TV's FINEST variety shows ever! even harder to belive, was that
this variety series was also co-produced by United Artists Television, durring the
height of their days,as one of the best producers-distributors of great TV,with
THE OUTER LIMITS and THE PATTY DUKE SHOW as their finest examples for
ABC primetime shows of the 60s. but HOLLYWOOD PALACE shines as the ultimate of the ABC series, ever! i'll gladly take this show, over the likes of what
the Disney owned ABC has today!
