Swaddling Baby

Thank you for posting. I am doing research on medieval and early modern infant care practices and pediatric medicine. It was great to get an idea of how swaddling was done. As far as I can see, and based on what I know of other cultures which swaddle their infants similarly-- it is safe, as was practiced for 1000's of years the world over with no safety recalls. Common sense helps: i.e. don't use smooth or slippery ribbons, and be sure that the swaddling cloth is away from the babies face.

Wow. How NOT to swaddle a baby! (Unless you want to ensure a choking hazard. Sheesh.) Yes, I know it's a period reenactment thing, but I hope nobody finds this who is looking for a swaddling instructional video. My baby sleeps super-happy swaddled in her Miracle Blanket. (It was kinda expensive, but TOTALLY worth it!)

If you listen carefully toward the end of the video, the woman on camera and another woman off camera begin talking about how unsafe this method was. I don't get the feeling they are advocating this.
