Even Canada has a somewhat lower standard of living than we do. Electric motorcycles top out at 62mph, so the miraculous all-electric semi truck fleet will probably top out at 15mph or so.. hmm, I wonder what these two facts alone would do to the economy.. Wind power kills more birds than oil spills, so I don't know why you think it's so miraculous. Besides, people don't want them around.

Even Canada has a somewhat lower standard of living than we do. The simple fact is, most people aren't willing do downshift their standard of living because someday it might possibly slow a gradual warming trend mostly observed in the higher latitudes, or save a few dozen birds.

But we don't like that, we want consumerism, and the people in Africa pay the bill. Oil will get too scarce to be cheap anymore someday (see peak oil), so we've got to do it at some point.
