  • There is gonna be a meeting in the Residence Halls (U3) off Dana St to discuss the online allegations.

  • are all histograms density functions?

  • Why does the course have the name 21 after statistics?

  • a holocaust denier!

  • thanks its nice

  • go to 35:07 it's the beginning of the actual lecture

  • thanks to the professor , organisers and the UCBerkely , it help a lot ....... thank you very much

  • What university is this ? Thanks for the upload !

  • @redsharingman University of California, Berkeley

  • lov this

  • @TechDevelepor It was most likely a tripod.

  • Why isn't he my statistics teacher ?!

  • I watched all the videos. Instructor is excellent about giving the intuition on topics. He removes all the questions in your minds.

This is an entry level course, gives the logic behind statistics. Teaches confidence interval, hypothesis testing kind of issues.

Does anyone suggest me an advanced statistics? I would appriciate it.

  • @Bilkent83 I wonder the same thing. Where could I find a course about advanced statistics?! If you find something let me know. It's pain when those videos are not well organized thus to allow us to know the program and avoiding to look for them on youtube.

  • @ensayofr I'm now solving questions on the page ddjudge dot com. Check the statistics streams. It has pdf questions and mov video solutions. I also downloaded his last 5 courses in case I can't solve the questions. He also has a youtube page as daniel judge but its really a mess.

  • Does he talk in his courses about Normal standard distribution binomial theoreme, chi 2 test, Student test...etc?

  • @ensayofr not that much. This is like an introduction to statistics. only normal distribution.

  • @Bilkent83 thanks!

  • OH LOOK - Its all INDIANS and CHINESE - even the teachers!!!

    ahahahahahahah!

  • What is the name of this prof?

  • I think I understand Einstein`s special theory of relativity more than statistics.

  • "Download this video for offline viewing." Is it just for US citizens? Because that download button doesn't work here.

  • What is the prof. Name??

  • @Niels891 I want to know too

  • God I have to pass this class in order to get my degree... I have one class left. Pray for me I need alot of help in MATHS.

  • im doin stats right now, what a worthless class ugghhhhhh.....common sense, when am i ever going to use the t-table in real life? or the z-table? im like the only person in the universe who carries around a z-table in my backpack. they have like a billion equations but all you need are a couple and work some basic algebra, but they want you to memorize all these unnecessary equations. slightly vented.

  • @checkle1 Are you crazy?!? I carry around t-table and Z-table in my wallet. I use them all day. Oh. Wait. No, I don't. Statistics should be a Poly-Sci class -- talking about the theory, science, etc. The math is just plugging shit into a calculator, but the THEORY and REASONING behind it is actually interesting. If this subject as a class was basically a humanities class it would be the shit. However as it stands, I agree: Ugh.

  • @Sduibek =) yeah I do find all the core concepts interesting but our stats 212 class moves so slow, the things we learn are really stretched over a semester, like it's a basic high school physics class that waits for that last person to finally get it before moving on. So for example, we learn hypothesis testing (totally interesting for 2 classes tops), 6 classes later we are doing dependent and independent hypothesis testing. haha it takes that long to make a transition and loses my interest.

  • Fantastic teacher:)

  • why do you need to work out the width and hight to draw the histrogram? why not just use the percentages (area)?

  • @ash4278 don't worry i figured it out, lol

  • At least this prof writes what he knows by heart, those power point presentation transform prof in monkeys without not incentive to be creatives.

  • which textbook are they using?

  • This is as easiest you can get to statistics. But when you move on to binomial and normative distributions, and probabilities, your in for a roller coaster ride to the pit of fire! No one should underestimate this class.

  • Yawn.

  • what a shit teacher

  • Does anyone know the name of the teacher? and what's the name of the textbook?

  • SO UM!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome lecture...just watched it before classes for this next semester :D

  • It's intertesting that in this day and age the prof writes everything down on he blackboard semester after semester, year after year rather than show a PowerPoint with the notes (which can't possibly change very much over time) and use the previously wasted time for interacting with the students to make sure they've got it.

  • what is the probability of anyone of you of getting a girlfreind and how many of you will standardly deviate from that statistic?

  • @IMnotSAS

Unfortunately there are too many confounding factors (body odor, humor, interests, etc.) that come into play, which would make it far too difficult to separate and control for such variables to make a good statistical comparison....lol

  • @briandee

Its also impossible to imagine dating for you guys is even a random possibility.

  • I really like how easygoing and concise this professor is.

  • @bubblyjinjin

I like how he seems to allow students to pretty much ask about anything and his quick to tell them not to get ahead of themselves and keep on track.

  • normal distribution is one of standard diviation and variance.

  • start viewing at 35 minutes in.. the first 35 minutes just talks about he's going to grade students and how to get a hold of him, etc.. administrative stuff..

  • @peggy0206 Thanks for the heads up; I skipped ahead, too. I'm looking for a good basic statistics video to post for some novices at the forum I moderate, and this (once one gets past the intro) is a good candidate.

  • @peggy0206 Cool, thanks :)

  • @peggy0206 Thanks for the info ^^

  • @peggy0206 cheers

  • @peggy0206 thnx buddy

  • @peggy0206 Thx, your comment was a huge help

  • @peggy0206 indeeed! i love this channel a lot!

  • those who can't do teach. those who don't know won't know. those that want to know get screwed.. this guy needs to be though that he doesn't know and is screwed.. i would give him major props if he just walked into a room and was asked to wing it and he will get enough for a good oz and wendys.... this is a guest professor right?

  • No i will not buy your notes!!!

  • Statistical Fact - The average american has one testicle and one ovary.

Just thought I'd point that out.

  • I can't help but to think that most if not all people that are answering the teacher's questions or giving him feedback are the ones that flunked this class at least once...

  • What book are they using? ISBN please thank you

  • @ihatefuckinglogins I got 3.97 so far, but thanks anyway.

  • @whoeverusedmyid i got a 4.0

  • I want my money back!!!! I could have gone to a JC for the same material and transferred.

  • O my God, get to point!!

  • Being from NUS- National University of Singapore, I feel grateful to have someone explain stuff to us. Noone explained anyhting to us..Every teacher just assumed we knew everything

  • YOU WANT GREAT STATS....GO TO DANIEL JUDGE....HE IS GREAT!!

  • Contd...The range of numbers (scale) is the Y-Axis on a Histogram. I guess he got confused between a histogram and a horizontal bar chart. Also the Pie chart explanation was wrong. He says there are no numbers in a pie chart. That is so wrong. Each wedge of a pie represents the % or proportion of the items in a dimension that you are measuring. It can be $, # or %.

  • I agree with most of my fellow "commenters" here. It is definitely boring. Long intro indeed. @38:00 is when it hit me, when he explained the differences between a Histogram and a Pie Chart. I can take it when they say "Will get back to you", but I cannot when they talk crap about things that they don't know. That explanation was so wrong. The width of the columns in a histogram should be same. The x-axis on a histogram is not numbers, it is the dimension which you are measuring.

  • what a big class~

  • @whoeverusedmyid it's a university level. You need to avg higher than 3.5gpa to get into Berkeley.

  • Very looong, boring intro. Skip to 35 min 50 seconds into video to bypass intro. Unless you really need to know his syllabus content, or the classroom numbering system at that college! Why didn't they edit this?

  • Wow! How frickin mean. I love my professor at Hopkins--he is funny and smart. But here I am --appreciating what I derive from whatever I can get here. Especially since I am not about to send Berkley a dime.

  • BORING!!!!!!!!

  • I think you guys are too harsh on him. If you paid heaps to go to the University of Hawaii, you'd probably learn to appreciate this professor.

  • @yuyuplayer If I paid heaps to go there and got him, I'd be mad as hell!

  • Quality of basic statistics course in Berkeley is VERY LOW! I wasted my time watching it. Just mumbo-jumbo, almost no mathematics. Boring. Unorganized. Want some quality lectures on probability? - Check UCLA course.

I dont get it that they still employ this terrible teacher, I feel he knows nothing of math.

  • who's the hottie with the good notes?

  • gud after 35 minutes

  • you can skip the first 35 minutes, That's intro only

  • This is great .I mean i can learn stats from top professors of the world by just sitting in my blanket and connecting via internet. Great. Thanks to internet and Professor.

  • @Anant1896 you should look up some english classes as well lawl

  • Good to know that I can skip this.

  • Is he the guy that made the anti-semitic remarks?

  • so boring

  • I watch millions of these lectures from UC, Stanford, MIT, Hebrew University, Cambridge, Oxford, Professional Mathematicians, nphlterd, all of em really. This is the worst one there is, I mean there's a few incredibly dull bearded freaks going off on useless irrelevant tangents about their personal life but this takes the cake for lack of information, painfully slow progression and overuse of weasel words. I advise perdiscotv -->

Luckily the lecturer has a head shaped like an egg.

  • @wiredboy27 Thank you, I also realized that this is the worst course I ever seen. Almost no math, just mumbo-jumbo.

  • @J0EH3AD a technical term he didn't go over. it must be covered in the 2nd edition. mumbo-jumbo. a statistical anomaly that would involve explaining what it is like pie charts and all that sort of junk, but not that. i am also very boring. i had to listen to this crap, i put up with it almost half my life, now its my turn. thats how things work, uhh...

  • Skip straight to 36:00. Too much introduction.

  • I've watched this lecture series and this lecturer makes several inappropriate comments about Republicans compared to more intelligent Democrats.

This is inappropriate and politically incorrect.

    Lobby the college!

  • This is UC Berkeley? Looks like a low-budget Elementary school.

  • He should have just skipped trying to cram in histogram's at the end. Although he calculated relative frequency and percentage, he never formally gave their formulas. He also didn't sum up the percentages to make sure they came out to 100%...in this case they came out to 99.9% which I guess is close enough for trying to give a brief example. Good lecture but I thought he tried to cram in too many concepts at the end.

  • @poppinfresh just focusing on the end of the video is insignificant

  • Jeez do they grade on the curve at Berkeley? Social darwinism in a nutshell.

  • sort of, sort of, kind of, sort of ,,, wanna, you know, sort of kind of. you know

  • This instructor is Excellent!!!

  • Garbage.

  • Im in highschool, but these videos help me understand and get ahead of my class.

  • although this is business statistics can the same be applied to sociology? i ask as i am to study sociology next year.

    thanks

  • @irishbollix mostly yes

  • is there some online material for this couse? Is it available online?

  • Comment removed

  • At Cambridge University lecturers assume you know everything...

So that is definitely a different way of teaching

  • hes explaining things to his students.. cuz he hearts about their grades

  • Loooong introduction, but not bad once he got into his flow of teaching.

  • OMG VERY LONG INTRO!!!!!

  • he talked abt standard deviation in this lecture??

  • lectures at russian technician universities are hundred times more interesting and challenging :S

Very boring and long intro you can skip

  • Thanks, saved me precious time :)

  • Thank You for this useful tidbit!

  • @ssjkrillen a boring video clip

  • nice video
