Putting his head down ( --> more blood running in the veins of his head) and bringing good childhood memories for a calming, relaxing minute while listening a calm voice, head on a lap of a stranger (closed eyes, he won't see the other guy's embarrasment ---> secure feeling).. Who the heck wouldn't feel a bit better when rising to sitting position again?
--> My vote goes for too embarrassed not to play along
I remember reading about hypnotism in Aldous Huxley's book The Island and did research into it afterwards. It described using it on women about to give birth so that they would feel stress or pain and would enjoy the experience. Humans are very suggestible. Hypnotism can work for good or ill. Politicians use it constantly. So do pickup artists and televangelists.
Being hypnotized only works if you have a free mind or a neutral mind ie if you believe it will work then it will work if not then nothing will happen but it also is affected by having doubt or uncertain of it.
@blackspear2010 That's not hypnotism that's pretending. If it works, then it wouldn't matter what mind state you have. A good analogy would be anesthesia. When you go to the hospital for surgery it doesn't matter if you believe anesthesia works or not, it does regardless.
@tanberetO No if it works then your neutral or think it will work so in most cases it will work and just because he is pretending doesn't mean that everybody is. And Anesthesia is a totally different thing it's a drug which dulls the nerve endings reducing pain messages going and being received by the nervous system. Also your "Analogy" is beside the point and nothing about what my previous comment stated.
@tanberetO What are you on about not making excuses? excuses for what? And your contradicting yourself by saying it was fake and now saying "if works it works".
@tanberetO Well you can go too far whether you want to prove it or disprove it. Just because you can call it lying or pretending doesn't mean that there isn't a significant and interesting neurological process. Maybe you're oversimplifying it, no? Don't forget that thought is a result of a colony, of closely related specialized cells, exchanging signals...formed by millions of years of evolution. We can say it's "just simple psychology", or we could study it as an interesting phenomenon.
@tanberetO the thing is though, the power of the human mind does not work like that. you witness this happening to people who are constantly negative over everything in their life versus someone that is ambitious and thinks optimistically. If you think somethign won'tt happen and are negative about it, most likely it just won't. that is actually true.
just starts drifting away. Hypnosis is far more RULE than exception. Hypnosis, NLP. RSD, PUA they all come from reverse engineering social dynamics. I like to call any of these or a combination of them mindhacking. It is getting in between the flow from mind to body and vice versa. Its SO easy. Inception really inspired me, I already got half a dozen of seeding techniques on my sleeve and they work like a charm. most hypnosis is covert anyway...
more immune to hypnosis. Basically this means that the smarter and brighter you are the more suspicable (if that is a word) you are to hypnosis. Once again hynosis is not the spectacular magic show you watch on your telly. Also the people getting on stage are the ones who WANT attention and who WANT to act stupid in order to get that attention, hypnosis cant take control over your own mind away. You can be hypnotized easily though. People do it all the time. Mostly when they bored and their mind
Trance is also the feeling of driving home. Spotting a roadboard that says its just 3 more miles to your place and the next thing that happens is you step out of your car wide awake. You just kinda missed the whole in-between. It does not mean you did not notice, it means you did not care to notice. Trance takes away the need to wake up from it, its too pleasurable and too easy to go out of it. It requires strong will or stupid people. Stupid people can focus less and are therefore
In a group situation the need to behave in a certain manner can compelling. How many people really have the courage to stand up and be counted as an individual?
I went to a hypnotist show and stupidly offered myself onto the stage with some other people. Anyway, long story short, I ended up pretending to be hypnotised for the entire show which unfortunately for me, was 2hrs. Good job I'm good at pretending eh!? I'm glad I put myself through it because it made me realise what a complete con the industry is and how gullible people can be. People were asking me afterwards all sorts of questions. They genuinely thought I was hypnotised. Such a joke.
I would have said: Im sitting here on a chair with my head leaning towards the person next to me, and i can remember i did the same in my childhood because my big brother forced me, like the man standing here pressing my shoulder.
i love the was louis theroux can improvise both with doing a realistic impression of being hypnotized whilst actually feeding into the comedy aspect of it on camera at the same time
"You'll wake on the count of three feeling fantastic in every way with a feeling of playfulness and feeling of energy through your mind body and spirit, oh and the smell piss soaked under-crackers from the guy next to you... 123 wide awake"
I bet that guys hadn't showered in weeks and his ballsac had sweat on it and it stank to high heavens and Louis had to whiff it in for like a minute right up close
This is utter rubbish. If people like this `hypnotist` could do what they claim they can do there`d be no need for psychiatry..........wait a minute - it`s a "Church" of Scientology conspiracy !
Yeah, in Derren Brown's book it talks about hypnotists and about a lot of people who are being hypnotised are either going along with things because they are embarrased to tell the audience that nothings happened or they believe so much that they go along with things, though not necessarily hypnotised.
The best part of this clip is the guy's expression around 1:14. Theroux is practically in his lap, and the guy has a look on his face of "This is fucking ridiculous."
I don't see how he has been hypnotised at all, the guy has forced him to lean down, asked him to remember something and to say that memory, then asked him to sit back up. Am I missing something?
@MChav7 That's basically all hypnosis. It's all in the "victims" head. The words and actions are designed to make it easy to follow it's logic and to enhance what's already happening. Having a lot of people watching makes us even more prone to follow along.
@MChav7 what you are missing is hypnosis. You are probably thinking that hypnosis is kinda like fainting. You get hypnotized, black out completely, do stupid things and then wake up remembering nothing, right? WRONG! hypnosis is extremely light. Its kinda like laying down when you are tired for a minute. You are fully aware of EVERYTHING around you but you dont care. Ever had like your mom talk to you and you were hearing her talking but you were not listening? Thats trance.
@MChav7 hypnosis is a state of mind where your totally relaxed and in trance, it doesn't literally mean controlling the person, If you get what I mea!:-) This hypnotist put that man in a state of relaxation calmness and told him to recall a past memory to put him in a calm state.
We all fall into hypnosis every day, watching TV, playing video games are just some basic examples of how we fall into trance everyday!
See, now that's either a bad choice of words or he's subconciously voicing his weekend activities "I want you to experience all the pleasure of that young, six year old kid" "the pleasure of the kid you are feeling right now". Saw it on TV and I was like... yeh...
haha hardkicka, you're so right, you'd think that if someone were hypnotized they wouldn't even notice they have saliva in their mouths and that they would begin to drool..
I didn't think embarrassment = hypnotism, though, Nimnoms. Don't get me wrong, I believe it's possible, but I'm not sure you're meant to feel sheepish when it's happening. >>
I volunteered to be hypnotized on stage. I really wanted the experience but never got into a hypnotized state, not even remotely. Are there certain types more or less likely to be hypnotized?
yeh simple ppl fall for it ,stronger ppl dont ,well thats my poinion anyway haha never worked on me eiher but my idiot friend ran round the stage cluckin like a chicken hahaha
lol I don't think it's simple versus strong. Although it doesn't work on me either apparently the better you are at visualisation, the more likely you are to be hypnotised.
Hypnotism is a 100% social phenomenon as Louis kinda hinted at toward the end.
There are actually 2 types of hypnotism. The first kind relies on the subject having a codependent personality. These are usually the people going to hypno-therapy.. They sit in a nice room alone with you, listen to your problems, talk to you in a soothing voice, and suggest to you relaxing and happy thoughts to think about in your comfortable chair with your eyes closed.
So there's really no "magic" about it. If you don't need to see a therapist, you certainly don't need to see a hypnotist.
The second type relies on being done in front of a crowd because of the social implications involved. Not going along with the hypnotist's suggestions would make you look like a jerk. It singles you out and makes it awkward to refuse because people went there to see a show, and it would be rude to ruin everyone's fun or make the hypnotist look bad.
You are entitled to your opinion, however Louis hinted at nothing. His reaction was actually quite common amongst people who've been hypnotised: "I could have resisted" but the fact remains, he didn't - nd neither do millions of other people who have experienced hypnosis. So why is that? Do you really think they're all afraid of appearing rude? Or maybe it's the critical faculty trying to provide some semblance of conscious justification for what just happened to them.
Yes, I think pretty much everyone who hypnotism works on is either willing to go along with it because they don't care, or they do not want to be rude by not playing along. This is why when someone DOESN'T play along a hypnotist will say something like "Oh looks like this guy is resistant to hypnotism" or something.
Tell you what, I'll go see ANY hypnotist you suggest, and for each one that is unable to hypnotize me, you pay me 1,000$ since you're so confident that it works.
And you honestly don't watch enough Louis Theroux if you don't get that at the end he was basically saying "I was too embarrassed to not play along, it didn't do anything"
Hell, when Louis is "hypnotized" he has an embarassed smile on face like "God this is stupid..."
I got hypnotized in my college freshers week last september. It was weird! I wasnt fully under i dnt reckon.
The thing going through ur mind is "why not?".
All my friends were watching, I felt if i ruined the act nd corpsed I'd look worse then if I went along with it guardedly.
After being made to pretend I was in a porno I made sure a got a seat at the edge, then wen a guy was made to giv birth on the floor. I buggrd off to the bar! lol I experienced it, it's gash but it works on a level.

After being made to pretend I was in a porno I made sure a got a seat at the edge, then wen a guy was made to giv birth on the floor. I buggrd off to the bar! lol I experienced it, it's gash but it works on a level.
