I have had this happen to me and the car behind me and in front of me got damaged but my truck did not get wrecked to bad thanks to the 80 style steel bumpers all it did was bend the front one up.
Lorrydrivers, truckdrivers, even car drivers. People go to work, 30 km from home. They get in the car, drive 150 km/h. They will be there about 12 minutes. They get a ticket, so they work the day for free. Now we do 100 km/h, as the law says. It takes me, about 20 minutes.
Wauwzers, 8 minutes. So them fast drivers have 8 more minutes to jerk off at the office while reading the ticket. And if you kill someone in an accident?
Well, at least you saved yourself 8 minutes. Be proud.
dont you guys just hate people who think that leaving this amount of space in between cars when stopped is a reason to think about doing this kinds of things?
As if you would be at home faster if you would have been 1 meter further down the road while the light is red.
Same goes for idiots who think difference between 80 km/h and 90 km/h is a timesaver of hours. In case of a trip of 800 km, it saves 1 hour. In case of a trip of 100 km? it saves 10 mins. Yiehaa, 10 mins. More worth than a life
I can tell you the length of those stripes equivalent to the cars passing proves you 1 did leave enough space, not saying TOO much but 2 you could have got the brake down not to smash the next guy. I got plowed at a stop by a suburban doing 50mph, I know wtf I'm talking about. Don't get so "stunned" guy.
@MrMockeryMcFly If the football field is 2-3 metres long, then yes. For those that have commented about the length I stopped behind the RAV4, given the fisheye effect of the GoPro camera lens, distances will invariably be exaggerated than what it appears. The lens has an almost 180 degree viewing angle and was positioned in front of the centre rear view mirror as shown with the 2 A-pillars.
@MrMockeryMcFly But here's the thing you don't get. like most drivers in the united states, there is no where to go when stopped at a red light. I drive a manual transmission car and leave about 10 to 15 feet in-between me and the car in front of me. I hate when people get right up in my ass, its annoying.
@leedleleedle73 I too, drive a manual and I have to admit it gets annoying when people stop close to me on hills. But when people leave spaces so wide that they are holding traffic all the way back it starts to get annoying. As a general rule of thumb I stop up to the point where I can just see the car in front's rear wheels. I only roll back a few inches unless I'm on a steep incline where I use the e-brake. However, maybe the camera view in the video make the gap seem larger than it really is!
@volodymyrm1 Car wasn't written off and was fixed somewhat. Not sure what it costed to fix as the insurance company sorted that out but I'd say it was close to being written off.
He must have hit you hard to push you into the car in front, you had quite a lot of safety room there! I'm curious: where I live if you get rear ended and then hit the car in front, you are responsible for the damage to the car in front (in this case the RAV4). Is that true here?
@kyogre6444 No, the damages from the RAV would come from the car behind me. Obviously this video I sent to the driver of the RAV would rule me out as the cause of the accident but no, in Australia, I would not have paid the excess for the damage cause to the RAV, video or no video evidence.
Good thing that you kept your distance from the car in front of you at the lights, if you were closer to him, the damage, I suppose, would have been greater! Glad you are ok.
@CalcityAirsoft Doesn't work that way. The vehicle that caused the collision is responsible for both vehicles. I was involved in a similar incident where I was hit by a vehicle taht was rear ended by a truck. the turck driver was responsible for both vehicles.
@JVPRCNG Actually It can work that way, Depends on the circumstance you can be responsible for the vehicle in front of you, but in your case of a truck it may have been different, My GMC Sierra HD weighs around 5000lbs and would push a car into another car even with 2 car lengths in front, That's why you are supposed to leave sufficiant space in front so you don't get pushed into others!
@CalcityAirsoft as long as you can see the car infront of you tires on the ground, then your plenty safe. and you could for sure see the tires of that other car.
@CalcityAirsoft im assuming you've never been rear-ended? next time you drive, when you're stopped at a stop light look at how far down you have the brake depressed. you just push it down far enough to stop the car, not all the way to the floor. and when a 2 ton car comes flying up behind you, how far u have u brakes pressed down normally isn't enough to stop both cars. and you don't have time to react either.
@markhenderson123 Thankfully I have not been in an accident, I have a great brake system and you don't have to press it to the floor for it to grab and I drive a Sierra HD that weighs around 5000lbs Not saying it could never happen but I always take precautions in case it does happen. -MM
Thankfully you were smart enough to leave a big gap, without it you would have gotten terrible neck and whiplash injuries. I was hit at just 40km/hr and had neck problems for years..

This is what I think of in my head when the guy in front of me leaves a space equivalent to the length of a football field
