"Well yes, slightly boring. I confess I normally made a cup of tea when those Greek men who jump on to each others' shoulders and end up standing on top of one another in a great big pile were on... But it just made CLIFF RICHARD'S bit even better!!" I <3 Cliff, and I love it when he gets mentions lol, even if it's a diss!
I do sympathize with Grim a little bit. The right to bear arms is should be a fundamental individual right -- especially when unarmed people have to deal with police brutality.
Well yea, but the problem is people do have guns. Guns exist ergo some people will always have them, and if you take them away from law-abiding citizens, only lawbreakers will have guns. In that case I'd rather have a gun too.
And I'm a against violence. Just saying it's a double-edged sword.
They banned guns in Britain in 1995 and crime is up instead of down, particularly violent crime. Even if guns did not exist, criminals would still find other means of inflicting harm on their victims. Guns are a great equalizer against violent thugs. A small woman with a gun can fend off many much stronger attackers. If you are ever confronted by gang members with knives, you'll be wishing you had a gun. Wishing guns would go away is a very naive attitude.
I question this assertion. The latest data says something different. Intentional Homicide Rates by country in 2010: United States 4.8 per 100,000, United Kingdom 1.17 per 100,000. The UK number has been declining since 2000. That does not make the UK a perfect place. It does indicate, however, that the absence of firearms is positively linked to lower rates of homicide.
Im with Fowler on this, any person who wants to own a gun should not be allowed to do so. Just as, anybody who wishes to be in power, should not be given any. Shooting is not a sport, they should ban guns altogether.
I'm an American, from Texas, and the gun regulations mentioned in this episode is so far from our attitudes about guns. In Texas, people hang rifles in their pick-up trucks. It is true, we love our guns in America, especially Texas. Texans believe in ownership of property first. We are not concerned about the community as we are about protecting our own properties. That's a very Texas attitude. Not mine, of course. Most Americans keep guns but don't actually use them.
@PurushaDesa Others will disagree with me (as is their right), however, my take on the subject is as follows:
A firearm is a tool, as is any knife, hammer, or one's own bare hands. It is the individual who is responsible for any act for which the item in question is used. An argument can be made for restricting sale to minors and those with previous convictions for violent crimes. Failing that, no government institution has any ethical grounds to restrict an individual's right to own a firearm.
The big difference between a hammer and a hand gun is that the handgun is a killing tool. It has no other purpose. I don't object to owning a hunting riffle for example, but not a handgun. A knife, yes. A hand grenade, no LOL! Unless you live next to your mother-in-law... <only joking!
I just can't help admitting that British comedy is by far the best I've ever seen. Unfortunately in Germany we have a massive trade-off between building cars and developing a decent sense of humour!
Quite so, but as far as i'm concerned, a sense of humour is by far more important than a car, no matter how good it is. Relatively speaking, germans are paying too much attention on "my house, my car, my boat.
i prefer british comedy compared to american comedy because its not as stupid, the brits have a shitload of double a.... (meaning 2 meaning 1 lagit and the other sexual EG: i have huge balls (it could mean huge soccer balls or huge gonads) ) the only brittish comedy i hate more then american comedy is lil britten its fucking stupid beyond belief the other brit comedy i dont like is black adder (just dont like it)
but hey check out other greats: Red Dward - Allo Allo - those 2 are well worth it
Yes, Telly Savalas sang - well, talked- a song called "If". And David Soul is not just an actor but also a singer who released some albums. Don't know abour Paul Michael Glaser...
I love this whole show. I'm an oldie who was about when it first came on the tellie. I hated it then. I thought it was naff. It took me a couple of years to appreciate it and like it and now I love it. It's just brilliant.
It's interesting that Fowler is so against what appears to be "legal" gun ownership in the UK, in that his civil liberties views seem to be inconsistent.
In another episode he accuses Grim of being the second incarnation of Stalin when Grim takes another type of anti-civil liberties viewpoint.
