Can't wait to rehearse this piece with my choir tonight! Really looking forward to singing it this fall. Thanks for uploading this video, it really helps with interpretation more than the demo.
@OrganistAnthony Thanks for the nice comment....Yes, this Crystal Cathedral Choir version is perfection! The organ registrations are marvelous--lots of contrasting colors, and always the right sound at the right time. Hope your choir enjoys the piece! -MLW
Under the direction of Don Neuen the choir sounded really great, it's a shame that he had to leave after Sheila Schuller's judgemental reaction to the professionaly paid choirmembers. She is ruining the Crystal Cathedral with her "lift your hands happy slappy joy joy evangelical biggot" buffoonery. She also chased away R.Schuller junior calling his sermons not anointed, Schuller jr. gave an extensive interview about this I was hartbroken and sad.
Way to go Mark. It must be a thrill to hear your piece performed to perfection for the Crystal Cathedral Choir is outstanding. As you commented, Mr. Leonard's playing and registrations are superb. You're lucky your anthem was performed in the days before the dismissal of the professionals and orchestra. The new sound of the choir wouldn't do your piece justice. My church choir has performed it several times and it a favorite.
I'm doing this with my choir now. The final "Bless the Lord" at the very end isn't in the choral part. Did they just adapt the voices to the organ part at the end, or do I have a different edition?
@19shea85 Yes, Dr. Neuen adapted the organ "postlude" to be sung by the choir. So, the choir can just pick their notes from the organ part. Thank you for performing my piece!!!!! -MLW
What absolutely kills me is when some of these opera hacks think they know how to direct a choir and they say that people like Robert Shaw and Donald Neuen don't know what they're doing. One particular college in Massachusetts comes to mind.
The organist is perfect, and the choir is excellent!
