I had the good gortune to see/hear Cluster on their 1997 US tour. It was an amazing show, and the 2CD set from that tour is definitely worth purchasing. After the show, while handing Moebius my copy of 'Cluster II" to sign (they were both very gracious about autographs) I remarked that I never thought it possible that I'd ever have a personal conversation with him. He responded, "Well, when I designed this cover twenty-five years ago - stoned - I never thought I'd be here either!"
'It is my opinion that if the liberties of this country(USA) are destroyed, it will be by the subtlety of the Roman catholic Jesuit priests, for they are the most crafty, dangerous enemies to civil and religous liberty. They have instigated most of the wars of Europe.' Marquis de LaFayette
Wow now ! I had never known the genesis of Can though when I watched around 7:00 about the arrival of Damo Suzuki and the whole thing about "Hey it's your first night as lead singer of this new thing at a sold out show" but "don't worry about rehearsals or anything just get up there and do your thing"? Stockhausen as a catalyst? MOVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOLY SHIT!!!! Jaki Liebezeit coming from a jazz background and then going into creating something that is right up there with Burundi drumming but unique in its own way? These type of people are in a group all of their own.
@abducteddonut "The general public, are ignorant and meddlesome outsiders who must be put in their place. They are to be spectators of action not participants who must be regimented to abandon any ideas about controlling their own lives. Their task is to develop a philosophy of futility and to follow orders while focusing their attention on more superficial things which comprise much of fashionable consumption."
~ Walter Lippmann (Pioneer of Propaganda) (1922)
@abducteddonut 'I do not like the reappearance of The Jesuits ... If ever there was a body of men who merited damnation on earth and in hell, it is this society of Loyola's. Nevertheless, we are compelled by our system of religous toleration to offer them an asylum.' John Adams, 2nd President of the U.S.A
@SupperOfTheMightyOne i would imagine he was not included because of the style he sung in, very american, nothing wrong with that but the program is about krautrock and how it was a brand new sound, Damo Suzuki is included, probably because of his freeform style even singing in no particular language which i also agree fits better with the can sound, but im only guessing, and its only my opinion, you are welcome to disagree :)
Y dont know wy,but in argentina we still love germany,we hate english and americans, germany has a special magic for us,may be for that of the fenix bird,
"Play monotonous." There is a film of the Newport Jazz Festival from 1958 called Jazz On A Summer Day. Chico Hamilton's solo is completely repetitive and hypnotic. Recommended.
It'll never go away. My great grandfather migrated from Germany to Australia & fought against his homeland at risk of killing his cousins in WW1. His son did the same in WW2, but to this day, when I tell people I'm half kraut, I get the obligatory joke of "half nazi".
More so overemphasized. I'm just glad they talked about Roedelius and Moebius. In my opinion, they should really have focused even more attention on the incredible solo output of each man.
what?? ...no German should feel guilty for two wars. one begun by insane Nobles and Industrialist's. and the other war begun by a clique of Fascist beanheads! those two specific elements are the sole creators of those wars!
Dude, mankind is like 200.000 years old, how can you say that 65 years feels like ancient history? People who watched WW2 with they own eyes are still alive! Not even 5 generations have passed since the war..! Be reasonable.
Yeah, noticed re Mooney-but I guess if they only have 56 minutes to cover a whole scene then they had to leave out some of the detail of who did what when-didn't mention Schulze being in T.Dream, Ash Ra Tempel or the Amon Duul 1/2 split either.
Darn good overview given the time limitation tho...
It is easy to find. I believe Mute released it. There is a 2 disc version and single disc version. It includes the stellar Free Concert replete with juggler and all.
Will have a look. Thanks. Nothing is as interesting to me as watching creative people behind the scenes. The final product is just the tip of some very exciting and complex icebergs.
Man, your opinions are impeccable. Needless compared to your exquisite taste. Thanks for classifying an entire group of people appreciating music into one solid group.
@tinaturntable Pretty irrelevant to the innovative nature of CAN and left before their heyday... no offense intended, but an easy omission/gloss over for a 60 minute documentary when you're trying to be as inclusive of the whole scene as time permits..

Oh yeah, and in the end it's just a small nitpick all things considered.
I mean just having this much time devoted to bands like Amon Duul II is amazing.

I love that although these musicians are aging, they are still "cool" and dress and look individual. They may get old, but they will always be cool.
