Sound fair to me. If people don't want to be treated like a prisoner while receiving medical treatment outside the prison walls, don't become a jail inmate in the first place: simple really.
This is cruel and inhumane!!!! a woman giving birth, should be made as comfortable as possible, and pampered , NOT tortured!!!!! I hope she recieves millions too!!!!
No sympathies from me. They got them self into jail so they have to take the lumps coming their way. As far as keeping prison inmates restrained outside the jail perimeters, I see no real problem with it even in labor if done properly. 6 feet of running link to the bed rail and to one wrist will not cause scarring or be an issue in the birthing room and gives them all the space they need to get on their knees / lay on side / into stirrups or whatever woman are doing during labor.

All prisoners from young women in labor to old men recovering from CABG I have ever dealt with in a health care setting were shackled either to the PO or to the bed - Never for a moment left at their own in order to be "nice". No exceptions seems like sound policy to me. I see no real problem with restraint that that allow for some movement beyond the pregnant inmates hurt feelings and pride.

yes she must be shackled all the time just like in china and she must do some labor work 16 hours a day with a minimum of feeding to survive ,,,, next time she will think twice before making a crime ....
It's a gross injustice to shackle a woman in labor or who has just given birth. Doing this is just one way to humiliate someone. Most women in prison have committed nonviolent crimes. This is unconscionable in a civilized country, and it must be changed. Work in your state to change it. Go to your legislators.
Yes, people go to prison because they did something bad, but there should be a reason that it's called the reform system. Because of something bad they did at one time in their life leave them with a permenent /semi permentant injury ? Leaving jail with an injury could an ex con at a disadvantage to finding work, and making a living. Possibly encoraging them to commit a crime, live on disability, wlfare,etc. Instead of becoming a better citizen.
@mariekoran I agree. People including me can make mistakes and depending upon the mistake...wind up paying for the mistake doing jail time. Still.. there are those men and ladies who realize the msitakes and want to change... when jail / prison correction system can do this to a pregant lady prisoner.... well how can American society NOT except newly released former prsioners NOT feel bitter to the point where they say.. Oh Well.What the Use?? Lets Committ crime again.
