If you haven't played a Parker, make sure that you pick one up at a reputable dealer and have them demo it for you. You'll either love it or you'll hate it, but you have to be willing to think outside of convention. Most electric guitar designs have been around for many decades, but the Parker is something new and innovative. I have ...

  • Thanks Dave for all the lessons and tips that you put on here! I would have never have got into fusion without them! It's helped me tremendously!

  • @charlotteguitarist Thanks so much for the comment! :-)

  • @mojoefly I have a mint condition 1998 Italian Plum Parker Fly Deluxe for sale if you're interested. I'm in Nashville, Tn. Comes with OHSC, Stereo Cable, bar, booklet. I also have 1998 Trans Emerald Parker Fly Classic in Mint condition with OHSC, extra spring, case key, and booklet

  • @dustinkirk hey dustin, i actually just recently sold my parker. Gonna try out some other brands. thanks for the offer.

  • smoooooth and epic as usual dave, i wanna thank you for your contributions and time with the lessons, backing tracks, and wealth of information that you share on here. you have really helped me grow as a guitarist and musician, playin along with the backing tracks as you suggested to ALWAYS do even if i get lazy and dont wanna learn the mode or when and how to change keys and so forth, if you just keep playing to the tracks, eventually, you just get it if you are like me,playin for awhile+lazy

  • @scottfree6 Thanks so much Scott! I'm thrilled to read about your progress!

  • Wow very nice. Great playing and the 11R sounds excellent.

  • @spaivxx Thank you so much!

  • So jealous of your rig

  • Smooth playing... how does your parker sound with more distorted presets in the eleven? I have it and I'm thinking of getting a parker like yours, but I want to make sure it's truly an all-around guitar

  • @vmcookr87 Yeah, it really works well with heavy sounds too!

  • @vmcookr87 i play in many bands. we play bossa nova, pop, jazz, light rock, acid jazz ect.. i can honestly say the parker in terms of variety in sound, cant match up to my fender american deluxe strat with lr baggs piezo but i can tell you nothing plays like a parker. IMO. the neck is the best damn neck ever. if set up right, its perfection. i just wish the parker could have the tonal variety of my strat.

  • @mojoefly Thanks man. Yes, I like those necks... a lot. I was also considering that strat you have (i thought it had a fishman piezo). I'll ask again... how is your strat playing heavy distortion? Not way heavy, more like EVH, at most.

  • @vmcookr87 The strat has way more body/ low end response compared to the parker. This makes it perfect for heavy chugging, maybe because there is more wood on the guitar. I use the parker on days i have low energy. Its ultra light and you look so cool with it. If you'll be playing a variety of music like country, rock, pop, jazz, metal the strat is what you need. as much as i love my parker, you never see pro sessionists using it. check out any dvd concert you have. all fenders, gibson.

  • @mojoefly agreed but i will tell you, i have found, contrary to popular belief that most all parker flys sound the same, it is true that many sound very similar if not identical but there are parkers out ther such as the one i own that the neck and body woods just resonate so perfectly together that i produces a fatter chunkier bright kinda parker tone with almost infinite sustain..point being, you just gotta find "that guitar"and just shop around tryin out guitars till you get a hit lol!

  • @scottfree6 i have yet to try a parker with such sustain and resonance as you said. i wish i could just shop around. hehe. parkers are rare where i live. really! no store sells them and you will find them in the classified ads once ever few years only. crazy huh.

  • @katarzis27 Thanks!

  • Dude this is totally groovy stuff!! Subbed man

  • @MetalUpYerArse1992 Thanks!

  • @TheSteamhackr Thanks!

  • @junior6official Thank you!

  • sir amazing!! you are an awesome teacher and player!

i have one question if you don't mind..

when playing jazz fusion, are we expected to hear the chords and immediately be able to tell on the spot what chords they are and what scale to use; given that you haven't heard the track before? or is it expected that a guitarist should listen to the track first and then memorize where the chords and scales change and THEN improvise over the track??

    thanks a lot!

  • @themask786 Thank you so much for the nice words!

It really means a lot to me. :-)

Great question you ask there. It kind of depends. If the track has more than one key (called a modulation), I sometimes prepare my improv. Basically so that I can anticipate the change. I also try to see if both keys have any common notes and such...

  • It would be nice if there was any info were to upload the melody when it was ready then...

  • @baardk2 Not sure what you mean?

  • @Wallimann Sorry for my english. But do I upload my video on my ovn page or is there a link to upload my try to the conthest?

  • @baardk2 Oh ok!

You first have to upload the video on your channel, and then submit it as a video response to the contest video by clicking on "post a comment". :-)

  • WOW, that was awesome :)

  • @udamann88 Thank you very much!

    It means a lo!

I think it was neck position.. Although it was humbucker as this Parker only has humbucks..

    Tanks again!

  • Excellent job Williman! Love the phrasing AND use of the color tones. Keep up the great work.

  • @musicmanslessons Thanks buddy!

  • awesome as usual! :) I like your blue deluxe. You don't seem to use it very often...at least in your videos.

  • @skleung Thanks a lot! You're right, I don't use it as often. I am just so used to the Nitefly which Ive had for about 16 years now...

  • @Wallimann what would you say are the differences in feel you notice between the fly and nitefly. I've never played a nitefly and am curious :)

  • @skleung The nitefly is also very smooth, but has a much thicker neck. At least the one I have which is an earlier model. But it also plays very smoothly. :-) I'm changing the pickups in it right now which is why I've been using the Deluxe.

Oh, and the Nitefly is heavy too...

  • I used to be into progressive rock/metal and shred, but gee, fusion is getting more and more what I want to play. :P It's got everything: the jazzyness, the progressiveness, the improv, groove...

  • @DVHThrudgelmir Thats exactly where I come from too. :-)

  • @DVHThrudgelmir Same here bro, same here :D

  • Hey David, how about some Guthrie Govan stuff? Maybe give us an insight into his super advanced fusion runs, scales, techniques...? That'd be so awesome!

  • @laza023zr I would love that, but he's way too advanced for me at the moment! :-)

  • @Wallimann I don't know man, your playing is awesome, I think you could do the job... :)

  • How do you enjoy the feel of the Parker? I was considering getting one, but I'm not so sure.

  • Very Sly with the Fly

  • @tblues01 Thanks! :-)

  • you look skinny than other video ,btw i like you phrasing improvise

  • @chouylai Thanks man! Hmmm.. Maybe it's because it's a full shot? haha!

  • wow, you have a really good grasp of fusion guitar. really enjoyed that.

  • As always nice improv Dave!

  • @petepachio Thanks! :-)

  • Ah ben je dis chapeau Monsieur '' Groovy frenchy''

Ca pousse a bosser: merci pour la video.

  • Nice work. Really enjoying your channel.

  • @sarinapaparone Thanks a lot!

  • Damn, you can play funk.

  • @BraydonSzafranski hehe, thanks buddy.

  • It's a really odd design, but the sound is amazing!

  • @MarcosFabianTv Thanks Marcos! You;re right, is is quite unique looking...

  • @Wallimann No problem man! (:

  • that's great!

  • @Nawa910 Thanks!

  • Awesome tone and playing David! Parker guitars should really endorse you and pay you for all the promotion you have given them over the years :) Great Job!

  • @EricMaldonadoMusic Thanks a lot Eric! Yeah, I wuuld love an endorsement!!! :-)

  • How come you don't play much on the Fly deluxe? Most of your videos contain the Nitefly.

  • @runescapeownyawe Good question! I'm just used to the Nitefly. I've played it for about 15 years now. The Dluxe is a great guitar, but it's soooo thin that it's a bit awkward sometimes. Plus the Deluxe uses a battery and when the battery is out it hisses like crazy. I hate that! :-/

  • How is the new place ?? i played a parker fly once ..and i can say the most awesome guitar i have ever player ,,the composite fretboard and the stainless steel frets make it play like butter ..best guitar i have played

  • @col33145 New place is great!!! Bigger and clearer. :-) But love it!

  • you need a band man.... hahaa just sayin XD

  • @piccicacca Hehe! Yeah, I would love that! Just found a drummer actually and bass player is coming tonight to work on stuff. :-)

    I'll keep you posted!

  • @Wallimann

    Have you left Glass Hammer?

  • @runescapeownyawe I did yeah, about a year ago.

  • @Wallimann that was ur band? what genre?

  • @Falyno Yeah, I played for Glass Hammer for a few years. It's a progressive rock band with choirs and pipe organs. :-)

  • @Wallimann great dude!! :D expecting good stuff!

  • very nice. I wish those guitars weren't so expensive though :(

  • @dqishere I know man, they are expensive!

  • amazing as usual mr. petrucci :P

  • Great playing!

  • i love parker flys , best playing guitar i have ever played , nice solo

  • @chicks161 Thanks, yeah, Parkers are really comfortable to play. I love them!
