That speaks volumes about how she stil felt about him all this time. Dianne was right. He owed her big time for that! Sam could have put him away, and the fact that she lied shows how she still cared for him, and how despite everything they had gone through, she didn't want to see him in any trouble.

Sam knows why she chose not to lie, because some of the things Jason did she was also an accessory, and she has her own past to consider being bought forward.
