had no idea that possums were so unknown. they are reviled as ugly and dirty here in the states but I ve always thought they were so interesting and adorable.once i woke up to find my kitten playing on the doorstep with a baby possum and almost fainted from cute-isity. one of my most enduring memories of my college years....

since we don't actually have any 'possums' in america, i don't feel ashamed about the silent 'o'. i like possums, personally. and i doubt the person who says they attack dogs and cats. they might defend themselves, but they aren't agressive. their usual defense is to pretend they're dead. it's called "playing 'possum", which is much nicer sounding than "playing opossum". and they are ugly, but they're not pets, so who cares?

I would like to add as an american that opossum's are awful they have 13 nipples that are in a circle with one in the middle and a 3rd eyelid they also attack cats and dogs and where I am from their tails freeze off making them even uglier.

As a American I love that even with the pic noone knew what a opossum was (mostly because it makes me feel smart). BTW we rarley pronounce the "o". Also "Cute" opossum? They are horrid hideous animals that kill cats and dogs.

@DanishNerdess. Pangea was the original one continent. Gondwalaland was one of two super continents that split from it 500 million years ago.

Of course, this is only theory based on studies by some of the most intelligent men to have ever lived. According to the bible it couldn't have happened because the world is only 6000 years old!
